Kernel32 2 Posted June 11, 2024 Posted June 11, 2024 Server Version: 4.8.8.0 App Version: Emby for Samsung 1.2.6 As some point in the past, the "Continue Watching" section disappeared on the TV menu. It still appears as normal on the Movie menu. When accessing the server from a Web Browser, the Continue Watching section is populated by both movies and TV shows. I tested a newly created account to see if there was a problem was profile specific. After partially watching a TV show, the Continue Watching section did not appear for the user either. This used to work, and I'm not sure when it stopped.

Not sure what are you referring to with "TV menu" and "Movie menu" but regardless: what are your threshold settings (Playback section>Min/Max resume percentage) in your TV show library settings?
Kernel32 2 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 Sorry about that, meant to attach these. As you can see, there's a list of partially watched movies that we can continue to watch when viewing the Movies section. This used to be present on the TV menu but has since disappeared.
Kernel32 2 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 (edited) Here are the min and max percentages as requested. When accessing the server via a web browser, partially watched TV episodes appear along with partially watched Movies under the Continue Watching section. Edited June 11, 2024 by Kernel32

Gotcha, no Continue Watching section for TV on HomeScreen in Horizontal mode. @SamES If you switch to Vertical mode (Settings>Home Screen tab>TV mode home screen), do those episodes show in CW row? Solution Luke 39993 Posted June 11, 2024 Solution Posted June 11, 2024 Hi, yes there is a defect in the 1.2.6 version of Emby for Samsung. Unfortunately to get the fix you'll need to start using the USB installs that we offer. https://emby.media/emby-for-samsung-smart-tv.html 1
Kernel32 2 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 They are showing in Vertical mode, just like when connecting to the server with a web browser. 1
Kernel32 2 Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 Ah ha. Gotcha. I will investigate the USB installs as time allows. (But most likely not today.) Thanks for the responses.
Kernel32 2 Posted June 13, 2024 Author Posted June 13, 2024 (edited) Downloaded and installed the beta app. That's quite an app update from the one in the Samsung store. My only question at this point is, in the documentation there has the line "Samsung has mandated that usb distributed apps must expire within 30 days of compiling." What exactly does this mean? From this point on, will I have to continually downloading and updating the app monthly? Edited June 13, 2024 by Kernel32

FrostByte 5251 Posted June 13, 2024 Posted June 13, 2024 That version of the app which you downloaded is compiled on the Samsung portal and at that time Samsung injects what is basically a timebomb into the code which expires the app approximately 30 days after compiling. This method of distribution is meant for beta testing before submitting to Samsung for review into the store and basically prevents app developers from distributing their apps outside of them. Once an app is submitted to Samsung for review, they will then do their own testing and compile the app without the timebomb for release in the store. Since Samsung won't test apps for TVs older than 4 or 5 years (for non premium paying partners) then people either stay on the older app , or switch and use the beta app and play the game every 30 days. 1

The "recently released" option exists for me on the browser and phone for the same user (see attached screenshots)
Luke 39993 Posted September 10, 2024 Posted September 10, 2024 Hi, it's not a bug. It just requires an updated version of the app, which unfortunately we can no longer submit to Samsung for your model TV because because they have this policy of not accepting app updates for devices older than 4 years old. In order for you to use the latest features you will need to switch to the USB install method: https://emby.media/download
Deiv 1 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 Thanks, that's unfortunate that samsung does this, looks like I need a new TV do all other TV models have a similar policy? Or is something like LG fine?

FrostByte 5251 Posted September 11, 2024 Posted September 11, 2024 If you aren't ready to buy a new TV (and don't want to update via usb every month), another option is to get an external box like a Shield which will be much cheaper. An external box will also support more audio, subtitle, etc formats than Samsung. 1 1
