Recorded TV Reporting in ServerWMC

Krusty,

I have multiple UNC shares across multiple hard drives that hold my Recorded TV files. ServerWMC only seems to report the number of files that are located on the same drive as my Recorded TV folder.

I have all shares set up to be viewed in Windows Media Center. I have the Network Path set up for my Recorded TV location. ServerWMC shows all Watched 'Recorded TV' Folders in the Folders tab of the application, but only the files located on the same drive as my Recorded TV folder are found and then displayed in the Recordings section of MB Clients (WebUI, Android).

Any thoughts as to why ServerWMC sees files on one shared drive, but not the others? They are all set up as shares with full access privileges.

From what you describe I can't think of why it wouldn't be working.  Please post the complete swmc log when you can.

Krusty,

Attached is ServerWMC log file.  http://paste2.org/Wy4eBJWx

I have to believe it has something to do with local paths and the moving of files from their Recorded location.  All files that I move from Recorded TV folder, but keep on the same drive (W:) in their shared location show up. All files that are recorded on (W:) and are then moved to (X:) and their shared location do not show up.  These drives sit on the same PC that Windows Media Center runs on, so I can't map to share locations when you put them in your 'Watched' list in Windows Media Center. Windows insist that it uses local drive letters. So, ServerWMC sees them in the 'Watched' folder with drive letters, including the drive (W:) of files that it does recognize. Unsure how to resolve. Would welcome any suggestions.

Thanks.

Yeah, since mbs is running on a different machine so all these watched folders need to be setup as network shares (unc), just like you did with the recorded tv folder.  There is a way to make wmc accept the network share path rather than a local path, but I can't remember how to do it (not unusual these days).

I always just enter them with regedit, run on the wmc machine.  If you are comfortable with that, then just edit:  WatchedFolders

stored here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Media Center\Service\Recording

replace the local paths with their unc equivalent.  Then restart swmc and make sure it now sees the unc paths (folders tab).  Then start mbs.

Krusty,

MBS is NOT running on a different machine. All of this is on one machine (MBS, WMC and all Watched Folder drives for Recorded TV).

I have done the Regedit of Watched folders in the past and change local paths to to unc paths.  This works until the next reboot of the system and if I go back into the Registry I will find all of these paths changed back to local paths.  I'll give it another shot and see what happens.

Ha, well that explains what the problem is then:  after reading your post I found a bug that causes swmc to think mbs is remote even when its not, that's why the local paths aren't working for you.  This fix will be in the next release.  Glad you asked about it.

As to why the register values are getting reset, I have never had that problem, so I am not sure what's going on there.

Krusty,

Thanks. I will look for the next release and see how it behaves.

Since my last post I did change Watched Folders to UNC paths in registry and rebooted and they seemed to have stuck this time.  First time that has worked!!  It has been awhile since I had tried it. Maybe an update from Microsoft corrected previous behavior. Will have to see how it behaves with subsequent reboots.  Now that ServerWMC is seeing UNC paths for all watched folders, all of my Recordings are now showing up.

Many thanks for your quick responses and all of your hard work. It is appreciated.

Spoke too soon. Made change to UNC paths in registry for Watched folders and rebooted and ServerWMC was reporting all Recordings correctly. Checked back a few hours later and now ServerWMC was reporting double the number of Recordings I should have. Checked registry entry for Watched folders and it had added all of the local paths back, but left the UNC paths!!  Explains double the Recordings.

Let's hope your next release can address the issue and I can stay with local paths for the Watched folders.

UPDATE:

Version: 1.0.0.49, build: 1171

Latest update resolved issue with local paths. All Recorded TV items are now being reported accurately.  Many thanks, Krusty.
