Very, very low trailer quality

I abandoned Emby's baked in trailer service due to the quality and moved to using local trailers only. Trailarr integrates well with the other arr programs and supports Emby's local trailer naming conventions. Trailarr rips trailers from YouTube using yt-dl.

I appreciate and understand, but we shouldn't have to do the work or even provide the space for local trailers.   IF you ever have the time could you share a tutorial of how to move to local trailers in emby.   I really enjoy Emby as a media product and appreciate the time and attention put into it, paying for the extra service isn't an issue I just want it to work as a paid product.   The guys who put in the time to create and maintain Emby are very much appreciated, even with the delay on correcting the trailer quality I still feel they deserve whatever financial help we can offer but with that just provide us with a fully workable service.    To the guys who created and maintains Emby, great job and you are appreciated.

I don't have much hope for a new trailer source as the financial model for hosting then is too great. It's just a matter of time before YouTube shuts the door on 3rd party access via undocumented API loopholes too. Hosting trailers, especially high quality ones, isn't free and there needs to be incentive to do so whether that be a paid service or through ad revenue. Personally I don't want my Premier payment going towards trailers, that me though.

As for local trailers, scraping them from YouTube goes against their terms of service. Using Trailarr is a grey area and might not work forever. I personally subscribe to YouTube Premium so I am morally ok with using it. If you have Sonarr and Radarr setup already, Trailarr is very straightforward. If not I suggest you do some reading or abandon the idea all together. There are plenty of resources out there for learning about that type of software but the Emby forums are not the place to discuss it.

Fair enough, I'll do my research.   I also subscribe to YouTube Premium.

I'll read start researching.

Thanks, and I agree that a new trailer source maybe doubtful, I think it would have been done by now is affordable to Emby.

Thanks

Why not?  We provide the space for our (much larger) libraries.

Maybe you misunderstood or I mis-stated.   As an alternative, if we're paying for the service that provide trailers we should have to look for an alternative unless we don't want to pay the fee.    I have no problem paying for the extras provided by the Emby guys.

My apologies for not clearing the statement up.

While that is true, I seriously doubt that hosting trailers for the very limited audience of "Emby Premiere subscribers" would be such a burden financially wise. This could probably be done with very limited server capacity - especially since emby also controls the enddevice and could implement things like caching and limiting to keep the server load low. The question is: Are they willing to invest the resources and time to talk to the distributors and curate their own trailer library (quite frankly, when I first read that they're offering a trailer feature, that was what I was expecting to get). But that is obviously not the case since the dev team doesn't even comment on those suggestions. Instead all we're getting is a not very meaningful "we're working on it" on repeat.

Sounds like we're on the same page.   I would like to believe they'll work it out.   More communication without us initiating would be appreciated.   I just feel a full year without resolution or updates is taking paying clients for granted.

While the online/stream trailers are being worked out, maybe there is some room for improvement on the local trailers using Cinema Intros. Specifically for trailers for new and upcoming Movies. Movies that are not in the library, as the way I understand it the local trailers are for movies in the library and must match the movie title name.

For new and upcoming movies, and trailers downloaded locally, maybe add a section similar to Intros but with the option to play x amount of them since intros plays only one random file from the folder.

Search for the Vantage Point plugin. It'll do what you want and more. My only issue is getting it to work with local trailers

Started using this and wondering if you ran into what I did...

1) Trailers for unreleased titles are making Emby think the title was added and I have the movie itself. I had to turn off trailers for items not already in my library, but I would like to be able to see trailers for upcoming movies.

2) Related to the above, it seems the in-built trailer feature for Emby creates an entire section called 'New and upcoming movies'. It's almost a library of its own, expect there are no local files (I think?). Any idea if there is a way to get Trailarr to act this way?

Kind of in between both of these points is how trailers are played with Trailarr -- do you have to go to the actual item itself and play the trailer? Or is there a way to have it hook in to the pre-roll for your movies similar to how the built-in one does? I also would like to have the option to navigate a 'trailers' folder / library.

For #1 you have two options, the first is to enable the "Wait for Media" option when the trailer will only be download once the actual movie file exists. Two, this is how I use it, it to enable the "Trailer Folder" setting to download the trailer into a trailer subfolder. Emby won't scan the trailer Folder and therefore won't add the trailer to the library until the main movie is added.

For #2, Emby has no mechanism for manually watching local trailers for items not in the library. Cinema Intros may pick them up but I can't confirm this.

Bingo on #1, I like the trailer folder method. Now I just need to find a way to tap into showing these as a part of Cinema Intros.
It looks like it supports it:

Just need to figure out how to configure it.

Nothing to configure as it should just be picking from within your libraries.

You are right, just tested. The only thing I'm unsure of are unreleased movies. I have a trailer in a subfolder as Jdiesel recommended, and that is no longer showing I have the movie in my library (which I want!). But, I do want to tap into that trailer that I have for it. Any idea if this would work?

No good way as you cannot target specific libraries as now it just picks from within all your movies that have local trailers.

As the plugin may need a custom trailers path for a local user method to work.

Damn, so no best of both worlds.

I don't want to see movies appearing in my library that I don't actually have, but I would really like to see trailers from 'upcoming' movies.

I guess I'll wait for the new Emby premiere version of trailers, but seeing trailers for what I do currently own is most of what I wanted.

Yes you can add a library with stub files and trailers but no way to specifically use just that library.

I ended up settling with Vantage Point instead. Works pretty good with exception of one minor thing. Matching rating of movie to the trailers rating.

I put a local trailers option and I placed all my new trailers in a trailers subfolder of a random movie. I did have to uncheck the ratings matching though.

Any updates on better quality trailers.   This is beyond annoying at this point.

Please, what's what the ETA or higher quality trailers.   As mentioned, there's no updates unless we ask, and each time nothing has changed.

I've been testing Jellyfin, trailers are pretty good.   Just testing stability now.

Hi, we are working on incorporating Youtube trailers. Thanks.

Is there any update on a fix for this? I, too, am still experiencing very low resolution trailers, some even in other languages than my settings.
