Music100 33 Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Possibly this is answered but I couldn't find the answer: I started a new music library in Emby and scanned it overnight. Some of the artist names are showing up as the names of the artist folder names instead of the metadata in the files. For example, the artist "Alicia Keys" is showing up in Emby as "alicia_keys". Or "Louis Armstrong" shows up as "louis_armstrong". This is a problem with most of the artists but not all of them. Some of the artists do show up correctly: "Willie Nelson" shows up correctly as "Willie Nelson". I've verified that my metadata tags are correct. Is the library still being built and I don't see that? The dashboard doesn't say anything is happening and the scheduled tasks say the media library scan was completed 11 hours ago. Any advice is appreciated.
Luke 40114 Posted August 17, 2023 Posted August 17, 2023 Hi there, can you show screenshot examples of what you see in emby server? Thanks.
Music100 33 Posted August 17, 2023 Author Posted August 17, 2023 Thanks, Luke. Please see photo below. You can see several artists show up correctly, capitalized and with spaces between words, which is the artist tag in the metadata. However, some artists are showing up lower case with symbols, such as "alicia_keys", which is exactly the folder name that the album is. I took a look at my other computer where I have the same media on another emby server. The same Alicia Keys album shows up correctly "Alicia Keys" on that one.
Luke 40114 Posted August 18, 2023 Posted August 18, 2023 Can you please provide the server log from when you imported the media? How to Report a Problem Thanks.
Music100 33 Posted September 8, 2023 Author Posted September 8, 2023 Sorry for the long delay in answering. I saw your answer to create a server log after I had taken down the system. But I created a new emby library on a different computer and it is working fine with the same media, so it seems to have been an "anomaly" with that system and is not a current problem. Thanks for all your help. 1
Music100 33 Posted October 6, 2023 Author Posted October 6, 2023 Hi, I've been helping a friend set up an emby library and he's experienced the same problem I had wherein some artist names are randomly displayed as the artist folder name instead of using the metadata in the file for the artist name. I've attached a photo. I had this same problem earlier with some albums in my library, but when I used a different computer for an emby server the problem disappeared. So it seems intermittent in some way. He's scanned the library and rebooted, but the metadata isn't showing up for this artist. The problem is shown below. You can see Enrique Iglesias shows up as enrique_iglesias. It's a FLAC file and the artist metadata shows up correctly in other media browsers. Unfortunately, I don't have my friend's emby log. Any advice on how one would fix this problem? Thank you.

Hi, when the information is not embedded within the audio file then we will get the artist name from the folder name that is two levels above the track. Well that's only if you've configured the music folder structure option to be artist\album\track, which allows us to be certain that the folder corresponds to an artist.
Music100 33 Posted October 7, 2023 Author Posted October 7, 2023 Thanks, The information is embedded within the Enrique Iglesias album. It was also embedded in the early example I put some months ago for Alicia Keys. I've put an example of a track from each album here in a temporary link: https://mab.to/t/pEeLd5LQ8Al/us3 As a note, I noticed that when emby first scans a library it sometimes shows this folder structure instead of the metadata, but usually all the metadata fills in. But in these scenarios, it doesn't seem to be filling in the metadata. Any ideas on how to handle it? Thanks.

Music100 33 Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 Hi Luke, Any thoughts on this? I haven't been able to solve it. Thanks.

Luke 40114 Posted October 12, 2023 Posted October 12, 2023 These both worked just fine for me, although I tested on the 4.8 beta server so that may have had an impact.
Music100 33 Posted October 12, 2023 Author Posted October 12, 2023 Yes, thanks for checking it out. This is an intermittent problem. Earlier I had a problem with these files, then I put them in another system (a different computer running another emby server) and they worked fine. Now my friend has the problem intermittently with other files, seemingly at random. I don't have this problem on my system. Is there anything I can try to handle it on my friend's system? Or some action I can recommend?
Luke 40114 Posted October 13, 2023 Posted October 13, 2023 I think it's the updated ffmpeg build in the 4.8 server that makes the difference.
Music100 33 Posted October 14, 2023 Author Posted October 14, 2023 Thanks, Luke. Do you know when the updated ffmpeg build will go into the regular (not beta) release update of emby?
