It uses the spelling as it appears in your audio files. In many cases when it’s different it is intentional.
Dullard 11 Posted February 2 Posted February 2 Exactly - because in Musicbrainz people write the names exactly as they were printed on the covers. That's swell for the OCD among us, but it sucks when browsing by artist and having many names for the same artist. And while i can (and do) edit the tracks, the problem is that if i update again from Musicbrainz, using Picard, these get overwritten. Also it a big PITA to hunt them all down.
Bigmack3000 96 Posted February 2 Author Posted February 2 It really should use musicbrainz ids. At the very least, by default, with the option to turn it off if some don't like it. But it makes little sense to use tagging but have emby selectively ignore that tagging.

Right it does not selectively ignore.
Dullard 11 Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I just had a thought. What if a new property were added to the artist metadata? Something like: 'MusicBrainz Canonical Name' which would the name associated in Musicbrainz with the MBID, and then a library option like: 'Prefer Canonical Names' to control its use.

Storing more titles in the database is always possible yes.
quickmic 1601 Posted April 2 Posted April 2 (edited) A different approach would be grouping artists with the same IDs same as for movies etc. Could be a library option as for movies etc. (latest 4.9.X beta) Edited April 2 by quickmic
