Hi.  Can you try searching for our standard android app (Just "Emby" on Amazon and "Emby for Android on Google) on the same device's app store and see how that compares?

Thanks.

I tried, same problem. I installed mx player, and selected use external player which then played the video correctly, however the playback quality with MX player was bad (tried on a movie), garbled audio, so had to go back to the emby player :(

Did you select the option more than once?  If you do it repeatedly, it will try different methods of playback.

I'm not sure what you mean, could you explain please.

I tried both the Android TV app and Android app, with the standard player (i.e. no external player) and both played it wrong.

I then loaded VLC, and it also wasn't playing it properly - of course to use VLC I had to choose use external player.

I then tried MX player, it's playing it right, but:
1) it has some weird issue on playing back larger videos, I was actually quite happy about finding that this played it correctly, when I listened to the sound playback it was choppy and garbled when playing larger videos (like movies)
2) it has a problem throwing "video playback error" if I try to play back one of the folders of my home videos and photos; this particular thing is not a big deal, but sometimes I use this feature to have a TV on and just shuffle playback of both photos and videos, which works great with the native player (although it would be nice to have the option to show the date stamp somewhere on the screen during playback

thanks

In the TV app, during playback, under the 'cog' menu, there is an option called "Playback Correction".  Try selecting that.  If it doesn't fix it the first time, try selecting it again.

Didn't know about this, thanks but it doesn't fix the issue. I mean instead of having the video portrait mode and squished, it's full screen but sideways - and it's a temp fix for the time the video plays - so not useful as I have quite a lot of these iPhone videos that don't play correctly. So weird.

I also like the Emby (not for Android TV) version better on Android TV in the layout and how it displays folders/video/photo with the little icons - I find it more consistent in the display.

That means that even transcoding doesn't solve this issue.  There has to be something incorrect in the video...

The video is straight up from an iPhone 13Pro, shot in portrait mode.

@Teredactle It has taken a while but I am pleased to say that Emby Server beta 4.9.1.26 now has a fix for portrait videos orientation when transcoding

For switching from public release to beta, it would need to be a manual install on the beta on top of the currentlt installed public release

Please note that once you switch to the beta, you will need to stay with the beta until the 4.9 betas become a public release as there is no downgrade functionality for the databasse

I recently got a Google TV Streamer 4K and playing back those files is the same as the Mi Box - sideways.

The only box that can play those files correctly is the Shield.

Will wait till 4.9 is released, I don't want to mess around with betas :)
