I had a similar error but having a look at the logs I found it was something to do with LiveTV.

I uninstalled the ServerWMC plugin and everything started up ok. Below is the log that made me think to try uninstalling it.

Are there any updates on this issue??? Still cant connect with username and password and takes loads of messing to get it to connect with manual configuration.

Uninstalling/reinstalling the app from the store seemed to work. Currently running connected via "localhost" on the desktop (currently running the server) and via "hostname" from a Surface Pro 3.

I was having the same "hostname not recognized" issue when attempting to connect the RT app to my MB server on my LAN using the internal MB server IP.  After reviewing the logs it seemed that it was being redirected to the external IP.  I'm guessing this new behavior is related to the MB connect feature?  In any event, enabling NAT Loopback in my firewall resolved the issue.

Would it be possible to have the MB app not be redirected when connecting manually, or maybe have it attempt to connect to the internal IP to see if it can be used before redirecting to the external IP?  I am available to help test and provide logs if needed.

I haven't been able to connect to my MB server from the Windows 8.1 app for weeks. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, I've tried the internal IP of the server, the external IP of the server, the internal server name, the external dns name. I can connect to all other services running on the server through one or more of these methods, but through the Media Browser App all I get is "Hostname not recognised".

It used to work before Media Browser Connect was introduced, and this is supposed to make it easier to connect to our servers?

Note: I have the same problem if I connect to Media Browser connect or "skip"

I'm really not happy.

Just when i thought i'd found a Metro app that would play ogg vorbis files . . .

i downloaded the beta server for windows and the metro app and at first i could log in, but i got the hostname not recognised error, so i managed to find the bit about the loopback capability but no joy still got the hostname error. . . .

So i downloaded the normal release of the server to see if it would make any difference but it didn't it made it worse now i get

"media browser failed to sign in to media browser connect" when i try and login

yet the web mediabrowser works fine!!!?!?!?!????

Can you provide the logs for the error?

It's in the Charms menu -> Settings -> View Logs.

Thanks

I purchased this app for my Asus windows table 8.1.

However, on the Tablet I can access the Media Server without an issues using IE

11.0. When I try to add my credentials to the Media browser App that I

Purchased from the Windows Store I get the following Error message: “Hostname

Not recognized. Please check the name is correct and try again”. After

Uninstalling & re-installing 3 times still get the same error message. Any

Help with this will be greatly appreciated

FYI

I have Mediabrowser installed on its own server( Server 2012)>I have ports forwarded>I've tried to log in with IP address / Machine name

I just updated the 8.1 app and when i enter localhost + port number i just get a blank select profile with only the manual login button. (this is when there is no network) I tried entering my user name with no password but still doesnt work. With network, i can connect to the server no problem.

I just installed the app on the PC that has the server and it would not connect or even locate the server. It works fine on other computers. Is the app unable to work in this kind of configuration?

Well that is very strange. I uninstalled it from the machine. Was going to use it to update my lockscreen. No big deal.

So it's now been several weeks since I posted about not being able to connect to my MB server. Now there is a fix out but I still can't log in. I'm now getting the same screen as the above. No users showing and a manual login button, but even entering my credentials I cannot log in.

I love Media Browser, and am a supporter. I paid for the Windows 8 app but I can't use it, and that annoys me.

I do not understand what the benefit of this Media Browser connect is. I do not want to have to sign in to a third party be able to use a service that I have paid for and is running on my local network. Fine I can skip it, but it broke the app.

Until this problem is fixed would it be possible to revert back to the version that doesnt have MB connect so we can use it local again? I really miss using this program and ever since the introduction of MB connect, it has become useless

The problem with reverting is that it would need revert of the Server and nuget packages as well. ;)

We will have a fix ready as soon as we can, sorry for the issues.

In what case does the app not work?

Is it the Localhost connection that fails?

Leucocepha

Just tried it again and it is working.  The play to seems a little buggy, but at least its working and I can watch on my tablet once again.

This issue appears to be back in the latest version. Installed it to a fresh machine (NOT connecting to localhost but to an IP address) - can connect from a browser on the tablet, but the app just says host not recognized. Windows RT fully up to date.
