koi 3 Posted October 9, 2014 Posted October 9, 2014 All trailers, no matter if selected by Cinema, MB Intros, or played manually via the Trailers channel, are extremely low quality and heavily pixelated. I have tried changing all the options for quality in the Trailers channel, but the result is the same. Trailers played directly through a web browser at the Apples Trailer site on the same machine at 1080p or 720p start almost immediately, and without pixelation so I suspect it is not a connection speed issue. Any suggestions other than to download trailers locally? 1
koi 3 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 I partially resolved the problem in the web interface. When I played trailers through the channel, I noticed that the quality settings were at 720p, 1 Mbps. I changed th bitrate to the maximum of 720p, 10 Mbps, and the trailers were much better quality. The rest of the trailers played through the browser were fine, with the quality setting sticking. Unfortunately, this did not do anything for the trailers in MBC. All trailers played without stuttering, but were still extremely blocky and low quality.
jwill 28 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 Turning the MBC bitrates up to max (40 Mbps) does not help. I am using an external player from MBC (MPC-HC) if that makes any difference. Also, trailers were great quality until recently. I did not change any settings, so it must be a recent MBC, Trailers, or MBS update that broke it.
ebr 15650 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 The server has changed not only the source of these but also how they are delivered to the clients.
jwill 28 Posted October 10, 2014 Posted October 10, 2014 (edited) So, the fault is not in the client, but in the stars, errr, server? Would that be the Trailers plug-in, or the server itself? Interesting that things went to hell just a few days before the Trailers plugin is going to start asking for money. :-( I'm certainly not going to be paying for it the way it is. I would like to see someone make a channel plugin for HD-Trailers.net. That I'd be willing to pay for. Edited October 10, 2014 by jwill
koi 3 Posted October 10, 2014 Author Posted October 10, 2014 What are your bitrate settings in MBC? I wasn't aware you could change the bitrates in MBC. Would you please let me know where the setting is? I'll test and report back...

They are in the Advanced tab of config which is only visible for an admin but, based on the previous report, I'm not confident it will make a difference. But do please try and see what your results are. Luke and I will work together to try and determine why the playback has gotten worse in MBC.

Changing the remote bitrate setting to the max of 40 unfortunately had no effect.
Solution ebr 15650 Posted October 12, 2014 Solution Posted October 12, 2014 Please try the dev version of MBC (221) and see if there are improvements. 1
jwill 28 Posted October 12, 2014 Posted October 12, 2014 Please try the dev version of MBC (221) and see if there are improvements. That did the trick for me. It is back to the quality that I used to see a few weeks ago, which is pretty good. Still not quite as good as the 1080p trailers I can get from HD-trailers.net, but close.
