firefox1970 11 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Hello it would be nice to have a Manual Subtitle Offset. So that I can tap the Offset time at myself. Right now, in the Android App I only can press -50ms or +50ms. If I want key in - 2 Minutes, its long way to do it. It would be easier if i can type - 2 Minutes and all is done and not press -50ms till i have reach it. Regards Firefox 1 6
Luke 38500 Posted October 18, 2022 Posted October 18, 2022 Hi, yes it's not a bad idea. Thanks for the feedback.
visproduction 178 Posted October 23, 2022 Posted October 23, 2022 Out of sync does show up a lot. I have fixed these issues for post production for many years. VLC player actually offers this as does AVIDemux editor. At 24fps, one frame is 42ms. At 25 fps, one frame is 40ms. at 29.97 fps one frame is 33ms. So changing in steps of 50ms is not a good choice. I think most people accept sync within 3 frames, but exact sync does look much better. It is difficult to get that correct. When you are quite a ways off with sync, the UI/UX of bringing it back has to be easy. Otherwise, it will seem that it is hopelessly lost. I would guess that most people would try and then never bother to use it again, because it is difficult to do. A delayed UI/UX would probably hardly ever get used. Ideally one click adjust and playback with the new adjustment begins automatically. Hope that helps.
metropical 33 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 I 2nd the idea. Although it exists as presets in the Emby desktop app. I can't find a way to even try it with the Emby app for Roku. I have one rip that I must have screwed up and it's out by a 1/2s or so.

Unfortunately, the Roku will be the most problematic for this feature as we are not in control of the subtitle rendering at all. It is all handled by the internal Roku player and it doesn't give us any control over it. So, to achieve this function on the Roku would require transcoding and burning in the subs on the server and a way for us to specify the offset in that process.
metropical 33 Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 kind of figured that Roku might be an issue. Darn the Luck ! ! !

Luke 38500 Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 Hi, I think I’d like to do a slider that you can just easily drag in either direction.
metropical 33 Posted May 7, 2023 Posted May 7, 2023 a slider would be excellent. though I guess for my purposes with Roku, not so much. most of the consoles I work on have a pot that one can read as frames or ms. but there is also the issue of wrongly formatted subs when the drift back and forth. 1

I'm actually writing a simple one now that you give it the srt file and an offset in milliseconds and it adjusts the file. I'll link to it here what I'm finished in case you have interest.
BillOatman 539 Posted July 19, 2023 Posted July 19, 2023 I created this simple open source console application that shifts the times in a SRT file by a given number of milliseconds, Feel free to have a look. 2
visproduction 178 Posted July 22, 2023 Posted July 22, 2023 (edited) Online app that changes timings inside .srt files. I use VLC playback to check. There is an easy way to add a subtitle to the original video. Sync all timings in a subtitle srt https://subtitletools.com/subtitle-sync-shifter Sync only timings from selected Start time to End time inside the substitle srt file https://subtitletools.com/partial-subtitle-sync-shifter === Some useful ms numbers that shift audio 1 frame at a time. Obviously, just go negative to move the audio earlier in the video. It is tricky to get it exactly right, but you can see it best with closeup actor's face speaking or any sharp click. Getting it exactly right really looks nice. 24 fps: 42 83 125 167 208 250 292 333 375 417 458 500 542 583 625 667 708 750 792 833 875 916 958 1000 1042... 25 fps (occasionally found in UK and European films): 40 80 120 160 200 240 280 320 360 400 440 480 520 560 600 640 680 720 760 800 840 880 920 960 1000 29.97 or 30 fps: 33 67 100 133 167 200 234 267 300 334 367 400 434 467 501 534 567 601 634 667 701 734 767 801 834 868 901 934 968 1000 === For advanced timing, you can use https://aegisub.org/ I warn you that tweaking with this software takes a lot of time and there is a learning curve. It took me about 5 hours to fix subtitle timing and improve the actual translations for a 90 minute video. This allows you to more easily sync and extend subtitles that need a little extra time to read. It also automatically warns you when the number of words is not ideal for the amount of time they are shown. === It makes more sense to try to find already prepared subtitles online instead: https://subscene.com/ https://www.podnapisi.net/ https://moviesubtitlesrt.com/ https://www.opensubtitles.org/en/search/subs https://english-subtitles.org/ https://www.addic7ed.com/ Hope that helps. ronl3 6 Posted February 5 Posted February 5 +1 for the request to be able to manually enter a subtitle offset (or any other solution for when subtitles need a large offset except for pushing the button a gazillion times). recently watched a TV series where the subtitles in the language we wanted had a recap but the recorded series did not have the recap... the required offset was something like 90 seconds 1
Luke 38500 Posted May 9 Posted May 9 Subtitle offset is being changed to a slider which should make it much easier now, and you still have the buttons to step up/down: 1 1

I have a few shows with subtitles for other releases because I couldn't find the correct ones, and sometimes they need a new offset after the "commercial break", so I need to adjust them quite often. I wasn't sure if should make a new request or not, so I hope it's okay if I ask this here.
