Hello, I just tryied setup a Live TV functionality in emby and results are very! dissapointing.
I run TVheadend at home network, so I install tvheadend plugin v. 1.5.2.0. from emby repository.
Then I fill up http address and login information. TVheadend server registered emby as client (visible in tvheadend debug log) and allowed it to connect.
But that was all unfortunatelly. No channels, no epg info. It just do not work.
What did I expect? That so mature project as emby surely is, will have such a basic things managed better.
For example, on my android 10 phone I did download app named TVHClient which is nearly 10 years old and when I put same login info into it as for emby...it just simply work from start. It downloads EPG info from TVheadend server and offer direct stream for to play. That was exactly what I was expecting from Live TV functionality.
I do understand that there is more solutions for live tv functionality around, but TVheadend is a TOP project for live TV streaming and so there should by a TOP support for its functionalities in emby. Thx.

Hi there, once add it, the server starts downloading information from TVH. This is called the refresh guide process. Did you allow that to finish?

Well, after I entered login info, I left everything as it was. So plugin did stay active. Whats strange is that you saying that there should by some refresh guide proces. Base on TVheadend debug log, nothing like that happen. There was simple info about emby sucessfully login, but nothing more. No connection info about epg grab or channel scan or something. Emby just signed up and lost interest.

Emby: 4.7.6.0
TVheadend emby plugin: 1.5.2.0
TVheadend: 4.3 latest night build

Try running the refresh guide manually in emby server. Once it finishes, if there's still an issue then please attach the emby server log. thanks.

Hi @Mdaloha77 this is only a snippet of a log file. Can you please provide the complete emby server log that contains the entirety of the guide refresh as well as your usage after that? Please just provide the file rather than trying to slice portions of it. Thanks!

So, what did you find?

Hi @Mdaloha77, I don't see anything that looks like a guide data refresh in this log file. Are you sure this is the right log? What time did you run the refresh guide scheduled task in emby server ?

So, lets try it again...

1. restart emby service
2. enable debug log
3. manually refresh TV guide
4. put log here...

Done..

5. Luke will promptly resolve problem... ... . .. . . .
6. everybody happy

The End.

What tuner sources do you have configured in Emby Live TV setup? Can you please show a screenshot of that? Based on the log it doesn't appear you have any.

Curious, after the refresh guide finishes, if you run it a second time, does that make a difference?

I did make another test with clear docker installation, same setup with tvheadend plugin and unfortunatelly same result...fail.

Again...log from TVheadend server:

Nothing more...emby is just dead in the water. No request for tv guide no nothing.

Hi, we've tested this ourselves without any problems. Have you possibly configured TVH in such a way that it's not sending back any channels through it's api? You could also use it's m3u output feature and just import using Emby Server's m3u tuner support.

Do your channels in TVH have numbers, or no? The only thing I can see in the plugin that might be a problem is it looks like it might be ignoring channels without numbers.

How do I do that?

If I download m3u from Tvheadend, it look like this:

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="f1ea62232fb79d8dc5ed56fbad4f11e4",1+1
http://emby:emb@192.168.1.44:9981/stream/channelid/593685233?profile=pass
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="fb824f91b380bcc94289dbccdd756aad",ABC TV
http://emby:emb@192.168.1.44:9981/stream/channelid/290423547?profile=pass
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="e4bc3bcf0713c880c6dc7f612d27e7ca",BARRANDOV KRIMI
http://emby:emb@192.168.1.44:9981/stream/channelid/1329315044?profile=pass
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="77d933f43f0fcf8149d3dab91816f9cb",Cesky Impuls
http://emby:emb@192.168.1.44:9981/stream/channelid/1949555063?profile=pass
#EXTINF:-1 tvg-id="e879797971479510f76c56237dd1ce10",CNN Prima News
http://emby:emb@192.168.1.44:9981/stream/channelid/2038004200?profile=pass

This work perfectly in VLC media player. If I import this m3u inside emby, it will offer individual channels but will not play it due to some failure.

But I need EPG function for tv guide, not individual channels from m3u file.

  • Solution

I posted an update to the TVH plugin to stop ignoring channels without numbers, so please try that first and let's see if that resolves it.

  • 3 months later...

I use TVHeadend on the same server as Emby in the following config and it is working perfectly:

M3U - TV Source:

http://localhost:9981/playlist/channels.m3u

TVGuide Data Providers:

http://localhost:9981/xmltv/channels

All available channels and TV-Guides are working just fine. The only thing is that TV and Radio channels aren't seperated.

Regards,
