You can use our parental controls with tags to completely hide these channels from some users.

Your solution if for the account in general, in my suggestion i say should be a PARENT CONTROL in client side, for example: iam the father, i want to see porn BUT i dont want my kid see it when he doing zapping...so here where u can use channels with password (old school) or some parent control like you said it..for me is easy put a password to the channel and dont share it..so when i want use i can use it...just wirting the 4 digit password

Another improve should have life tv:

4- life tv should not show, or put at the buttom of list, all channels which source or m3u list dosent work....this way only workings channel will be on top of list!!

5- if you disable a channel because dosent work on that moment, icon image should not dissapair because when is back to production is a paine in the a** attach it all again!!

Hi.  Those two requests appear to contradict one another...  The only way they wouldn't would be if we tested every single channel before showing the guide and that simply isn't practical.

Perhaps I was not precise in the explanation, nothing better than images

1- what is the point of have channel with source down in your guide or programs?? is bad for the service, for the server, for the visual, and others...you could solve this easily with stored procedure on db or even over app with sort by online channels...why u should have this? because some times tech is not controling or in middle of weekend some source goes down and client must wait 3 days to have solve it this...until that must go throu offline channel to get online channels...anyway...that is the idea...improve to tech and clients...
even more, it shoul be a way to have auto back up online channels....iam using 4 of my 8 turner and if down some1, i must manually put on others tunner...this should be automatic...maybe it is but i cant find this info.

image.thumb.png.a8e8bfe55db4a1ba41130011847e21ad.png

2- the second point is abt icon image....why u make dissapair image when you disable a channel? my point here is maybe i disable the channel beacuse the surce is with problems BUT if i can solve it....i must put again all icons when is back to production!! is a pain in a** do that again and again with 2k of channel for example

image.png.6e6a682297883a3603b6b2585a5c81b0.png

anyway, my point is: it is great can personalize but automatic is good too...i love manually mode but some case...i really not...anyway..if you still is contradict one another...there is nothing more i can say to show my point.

my regards

Good Morning,

While not directly addressing what you're asking from an Emby feature set, as long time users of Emby, I thought I would share with you how our family approaches these items.

1. emby app allow you to start with the auto selection of a channel...i mean: when you start the application emby on a tvbox for ex., it opens directly in a channel

  • I believe there is an option, which allows Emby to auto start /resume the last Live TV channel played.  We don't use this feature, but it's there & it works.

2. emby app allow you to put password to channels, remember there is adult channel who some1 want BUT there are child on family.

  • We use device profiles & an exclusion approach to solve this.
    • Example:  All tv's have an Amazon Fire Stick 4K
      • All Amazon Fire Stick 4K's have an adult profile & a child profile.  The adult profile is password protected.
        • Each profile has its own instance of Emby logged in.
        • When the children log into the Fire Stick, they log into a child friendly Eco System via the device profile.  When they open Emby, it loads the child profile, rather than the adult profile.  This child profile completely excludes Live TV, though as mentioned earlier, you can also use Tags to exclude adult channels from their view.
        • When you log into the adult device profile, a password is required to enter the adult ecosystem.  When Emby is launched, it auto logs into the adult profile where there are no content restrictions.
        • Using this methodology, the children only have access to what we push to their devices, via the Emby age rating system & customized tags.  We've used this for a couple of years & it works very well for us.

* Channel ordering - tvguide

  • We use a 3rd party m3u editor to build channel categories, quickly reassign channel numbers in the order we want them to appear, & affiliate guide data with the corresponding channels.  Continuing from the example from above, in our household, the "kids channels" are the first channels you get to by channel numbers.  That way, if the children want to watch Live TV under the adult profile, they don't have to pass any channels we don't want them watching to get to the kids channels.
  • Once you've assigned the channel numbers the way you want them, you just default Emby to Sorting Channels by Channel Number.

The only feedback I would have on Channel Ordering that may need to be a Feature Request, is that from time to time you will have channels or streams that do not have a channel number assigned in the m3u list.  Emby puts these channels at the top of the list, instead of the bottom.  It would be great to either default channels with no channel numbers to the bottom, or have the option of moving them to the bottom, so as to keep the TV Guide in the correct order.

Best-

How would the server know if a channel is down or not until you try to play?

Good Afternoon Mr. Luke.

iam not a developer on emby so i cant answer precisely your question but should be easy for the engieenier of that develop..but if u ask me to guess...i thnk somethink like this:

with and store procedure or over app or wherever goes codes, ill run some code like streamlink URL....if drop unable to open...you know that channel is offline BUT if you get found matching or whatever word you vinculate with the channel on...well...is online...

image.png.75d553b2eb2cd44d04d35170079d6a72.png

this action can be done manually by the user or automatic by server....the details and good practice should be in charge of developer in charge....maybe iam wrong but i worked with DB  and fronts app on past and i remember 1 or 2 requests like this from my ex boss (not about tv because this is my first time with this)

regards

Right but it means that the server will have to try and connect to every single channel url during the guide refresh process. That will cause it to take a very long time.

indeed Mr Luke!

But if u have 300 channel and a great server, maybe this action take a few minutes, it depends on certain variables...since a few years dosent touch this type of topics, for sure iam wrong  but i think who is in this, can have an idea to put it to work with a good practice...to me, should be manually maybe..an option of sort by and give the chance to advance users or tech to scheduale on some part of emby like "programmer mode" for example...but anyway...is an idea...maybe iam wrong on this one.Sry for bother u ppl! My best regards!

The other problem is that it's very common for some channels to be unavailable at certain times of the day, so just because it can or can't play at the time of the guide refresh doesn't mean it will be the same later when you actually want to play it.

It's the supposed Live TV upgrade that is coming at some point

I'm sure it may appear at some point, but it's been rumoured for years, and at this point that list reads more like a wishlist than anything likely to appear soon

It's not a wishlist, it's real. A number of people are part of the private beta, so when some appear to know a little more, then it's because they do. 🙂
