Movie "Refresh" and "Identify" not working for EXISTING movies or TV

Currently on 4.7.6.0 for QNAP x64, but this also occurred on the previous version.

I probably haven't done a forced Refresh or Identify on an existing movie for a year, but I have a few titles that for some reason only have a small number of cast.

For example, Grease (1978) only has 6 cast members and the director. TMDB, which is my primary data source for movies, has a large cast list (48 cast entries), so normally it should be easy enough to Refresh Metadata, right? Well, that used to be the case, but this results in no change now. I know from experience that if I do this once, any further attempts for the next 48 hours will pull cached data instead of going back out to TMDB, so I waited 3 days, and this time, I did an Identify using the TMDB ID (621 in the case of Grease). Still, no change - my 6 cast members and the director is all I've got.

I have the same problem with TV shows. Several originally had no Guest Stars because there were none in the database, so I've gone in and filled out Guest Stars in TMDB (which, again, is my primary data source), and I've done both Refresh and Identify, even several weeks after entering the data, and I'm not getting the new data.

Roughly a year ago I did this and I would get the complete data (whatever was in the relevant database), but at some point, this seems to have gotten broken.

There's no problem retrieving data for a NEW title, but for an existing one, it's a no-go. Any ideas? I'm happy to upload whichever logs you might want to look at - just let me know. Thanks!

TMDB is my primary provider, but I think you may be on to something. I've never even been to OMDB's website. Perhaps I should unselect it as a source entirely.

@MrAudio That appears correct but that info does not reflect metadata from TMDB.

But with <dateadded>2017-12-15 07:53:54</dateadded> it is impossible to say.  But a Refresh replace all should correct the issue.

That's the issue: obviously the data isn't complete, but multiple Refreshes didn't update it. I agree that it doesn't seem to be pulling data from TMDB. I've disabled OMDB and I'll restart my server (the entire NAS) later today and try to refresh again. I tried just for the heck of it just now and nothing changed, but as I said, it's normal that subsequent refreshes don't seem to go out to the Internet and pull data again, but rather just used cached fetch data, so I either have to wait 2 days for the cached data to expire, or I have to restart the entire NAS, before it will go out and hit the external database again.

Thanks for cluing me in as to where that cached data is stored. I took a look at the files and it appears that the data is correct (the full cast is there, and cast names), so I'm not sure what's going on.

I deleted the 621 folder out of the cache directory and did a Refresh on Grease. No update to the data.

I should add here that I believe that I can "fix" this by removing the movie and NFO file from its directory on the server, rescanning the collection, and then move just the movie back in, which would treat it as a brand new movie. I could then copy the old "added by" date to keep it from appearing as a new movie in the collection if I cared about that - in this case, it doesn't matter much to me.

But that's not going to fix the problem that the Refresh functionality doesn't seem to work.

Let me add one more wrinkle: I had been running the Beta version of the server for about 9 months until the beginning of the summer, in order to use the new People folder naming with the TMID's in the folder name, but switched back to the normal release back in May or June once I knew the standard version supported the new folder scheme. I believe the Refresh still worked with the beta software, but I don't believe it's worked since I went back to the standard release. I used the previous release - I think 4.7.5.0, for several months, and just updated to 4.7.6.0 a couple of weeks ago, hoping that would fix it. It didn't. But maybe something happened somewhere - some strange setting - due to the beta?

I refreshed the movie, hoping for the cast list to be refreshed and filled out. Still just the same 6 characters.

I've removed the fetcher for OMDB entirely, so the only one that's active is TMDB. Looking at the cache, it does appear that it's pulling data from TMDB, but for some reason, it's not updating the movie's NFO file or the actual Emby database.

Something is stuck as People are not populating TMDB data on the example above on OP setup.  They are not showing Roles so it is like OMDB data but there are not that many actors list on OMDB.

@MrAudio Have you verified NFO writing is enable as Emby will continue to read the written NFO file.  If it is not changing, then that suggests possibly permission issues or setting not enabled.
