Hello,

I'm looking for a bit of assistance... I'm having trouble playing some channels via emby's Live TV.  Some Channels load just fine, other don't. I have tried a multitude of different steps, but i have been able to identify that it happens only on one of my two Samsung TVS. Otherwise, I have no issues streaming from my Emby server using a PC or Mobile Device.

I have attached a picture of the error message and 2 last logs. One where it worked sucessfully playing NBC and where it didnt work playing FOX.  TV Model # in question: QN32Q60AAFXZA "32in"

I also attached 2 more logs where it worked sucessfully (Same Channels) on the other Samsung TV Model # QN65QN9DAAFXZA "65in"

Please let me know what steps i should take, or what other info is needed.

Thank you Kindly!

Eric

I'm not sure why it's the case, but looking at your Fox example, one is playing at 720p/60fps and the other is 1080i/30fps.  I don't know that channel, but does it broadcast some programs in different formats?

As to why it is failing to transcode and play, it may be as simple as the server can't keep up with the extra processing required to convert the 1080i content.

Hello,

Thanks for the reply... Both Fox and NBC are HD Over the air channels, I just checked on my hardwired TV Fox is indeed transmitting at 720p and NBC at 1080i.  Interesting observation.

Why is it that it works on one TV just fine and not on the other is where I'm concerned the most..

Anything else I can try?

Both of the logs that my samples above are from FOX.  Is it possible that different programs during the day (or commercials?) are broadcast at different resolutions?

Its very possible, I will review FOX live and see if the resolution changes from programing to commercials, etc.

So I was able to confirm the broadcasts on Fox are primarily in 1080i, however some commercials can be 720p. I have spent the evening testing different channels and it seems to not want to play those channels broadcasting in HD over SD. All SD channels stram with zero issue, some HD do as well, but Fox and even ABC are a no go. Once again its just on this TV the QN32Q60AAFXZA. I'm not experiencing this concern with the QN65QN9DAAFXZA.   I have also tried to uninstall the Tuner on Emby as well as the guide. No luck, Dynamic vs Static IP's No luck. Refreshed guide data, restarted server, no luck..  Any other suggestions, things to try?  Is the version on Emby maybe not compatable with my TV software?   Taking a shot in the dark..

Can you try starting playback on both TV's for the same program at the same time, then send both their logs?

There shouldn't be any difference between them, and they should be trying to transcode to the same format.

Just be aware if you start playback during a commercial at 720p, then it will try and convert all the content to 720p and will probably work fine, but if you start playback during the program at 1080i, then it will fail.

The key to this test is making sure both playbacks start during the same program or commercial to have an equal comparison.

Hello again,

Pardon the delay, I conducted the test as you described and I was sucessful on the "65inch" Samsung, and unsucessful on the "32inch" Doing the test produced 4 logs. I have attached. I also included the server txt file to see if that helps you also.

Thanks again

Are you sure the 65inch worked in your last tests?

All 4 of the ffmpeg logs look like failures, including ffmpeg-transcode-5d865ef5-6986-451e-95e0-956dcb7410f3_1.txt which was the 65inch.

Can you try disabling hardware transcoding and try again?

Hello Again,

Very odd indeed.. The 65' Samsung had no issues that i recall. I have attached all logs from the 32' inch Samsung where FOX, CBS, & ABC gave me the playback errors (All HD Channels) I did disable Hardware transcoding as instructed for this go around I also tried a Non-HD Channel called H&I and that worked perfectly. I attached all logs Emby produced over the span of 4 mins for the test.

Thank you,

These still look like hardware transcoding is on

Can you also check that you have the latest drivers for your video card?

What are your Transcode settings?

Could it just be an issue with DX11VA decoder?

@SamES My Apologies, I was turning off Transcoding at the Live TV Menu, instead of at the transcoding setting option   @Happy2Play I have provided some screen prints of the settings.. I will turn off the transcoding now and try again. Video card drivers are up to date.

And if you changed the preferred decoder?

But if with HWA diabled and still have issues, I would suspect the issue is somewhere else.

Making some progress, with transcoding off still CBS just lit up  Here is the log  Looks like its now something at channel level.

ffmpeg-transcode-027b81f6-8d5a-4dde-880a-a2246edc02f6_1.txt 48.02 kB · 2 downloads

So this one looks like it's supposed to.  I can see HW is definitely off now.  So if you try FOX, it still doesn't work?

Is it possible that TV software isn't compatable somehow with the Emby App for Samsung. ?   Just a thought..

We should be able to convert the stream to a supported profile.  The first step is understanding the supported profiles but we already know that for these devices.

For some reason, the transcoding is failing.  We need to understand why.

I am wondering if this issue is fixed in the 4.8.x beta releases?

So I did a few things on my end and determined that this issue isnt at a channel level.  I recorded Jimmy Kimmel Live (2 nights ago) on ABC and unable to play back from my PC's hard drive the 32' Samsung TV, however able to play everywhere else with zero issues.  (Logs attached for the 32' attempts)

I also did a factory reset of the 32' samsung tv and reinstalled Emby. This produced a hardware detection log, i attached that as well.

I also flipped around the decoders and Encoders and no luck

I have a new HD Homerun OTA box on the way to see if swapping that out fixes the issue.

Let me if you see anything in the logs..

Thank you,

OK, I know you may have already covered these above, but just to capture it all in one place:

  • What error do you get on the client when you try and play this?
  • If you make a recording, can you playback the recording (I think you said no previously)?
    • Can you PM a small recording sample to me (at least 60 seconds)?
  • Is it still the case that to 60" TV works, but the 32" does not.

I'm not sure when the 4.8 release will be published (it could be a while), but I'm wondering if some of these issues are already resolved.  If you have another spare PC you could try installing the beta version of the server on it and test whether it is any better.
