trusselo 220
so i now have a 2070 super able to transcode so I am playing with HDR files more now without SDR duplicates. I have some questions I have 3 tvs that are HDR but not HDR10+ If i play HDR10+ content, it transcodes due to "unsupported codec" thats fine, i get it, but is it transcoding to SDR or HDR when playing to an HDR compatible screen? should i avoid HDR10 content if i dont have a screen that supports it.... yet...? INTERESTING INFO 2070 super transcoding HD stream is about 3% gpu usage. transcoding HDR stream with bitmapping 10% - 13% Edited July 23, 2022 by trusselo

trusselo 220
i didnt think this was a problem, just a question... but sure. played 1 file, it generated 3 transcode logs, here are the 4 relevant logs. embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-8a071c54-86c6-4856-a327-07a4d4765333_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-286fd9e6-a50e-4abe-b69b-a959dc88d0ed_1.txt ffmpeg-transcode-6d4732bb-940a-4fa1-816f-3ab665a6f3d4_1.txt
trusselo 220
I assume by your response its possible to transcode HDR10 to HDR in emby? Edited July 23, 2022 by trusselo
trusselo 220
i also notice that the user session stays open for emby theatre long after the app has closed. its been closed for 30 min in this screenshot. endgame was the test video for the logs above. closed theatre before generating logs. i have seen this behavior on other PC too with emby theater transcoding continues after app close too EDIT: now 3 hours later. still showing. trusselo 220
well been many hours and that user session is still running. but found half of my first question... it was converting to SDR. but was it supposed to?
rbjtech 4170
It shouldn't be transcoding at all - HDR10+ is fully backward compatible with HDR10 (ps - your TV's are HDR10 - there is no such format as 'HDR' - that's just a generic term for anything above SDR) The only reason it may need to transcode is the Audio - but as you are a) using Emby Theatre and b) using AAC - it should natively play HDR without transcoding.

FrostByte 5024
HDR10+ is just added metadata on top of HDR10. There's nothing to transcode, if your TV doesn't support the added metadata it should just ignore it. You can't transcode metadata unless you're talking converting it to DV RPU type metadata.

They're in the desktop version: https://emby.media/emby-theater.html Not in the store version at this time.
Solution trusselo 220 Posted July 31, 2022 Author Solution Share Posted July 31, 2022 ALL issues fixed by installing desktop version instead of windows store version of theatre.
