This problem always occurs when resuming or fast-forwarding/rewinding a video with DTS-HD audio.

The audio continues normally but the image is jerky. I attach a video of the problem and have sent the log from my Android client, as you explained here.

These are the technical characteristics of the last 2 videos that have caused the problem:

Which version of Shield Experience are you on, is it 9.0.2?

@Audiomixerdoes this sound like what you were getting before updating to 9.1?

Most definitely. Applying the May ‘22 9.1.0 hotfix will fix that.

Both my shields were doing what you discribe. I would try the latest hotfix as now both my shields no longer have this issue.

I've updated my Nvidia Shield to the last beta firmware but the problem persist. Isn't this an Emby error?

Are you sure you are on android 11 shield experience 9.1.0?  Personally on both my 2019 shield pro devices, this update has fixed my resume of dts-hd ma files.

With the resume option I haven't tried it because I haven't started to see anything with this audio. But if I fast forward, it doesn't sync the audio and video well afterwards. It makes the same jerks with the image.

If you go to Settings and About then scroll to the bottom it should say 9.1.0

@FrostByte im seeing some strange behavior with ff on dts-hd ma files as well where a long ff might take a good 15 secs to resume playback or completely lock up my shield needing a reboot.

maybe @ebr can look at my log submitted 1:12 pdt s-diskstation is user.

I have set that when it resumes a video, rewind 10s. Maybe if I change this value to 15s or higher it will work fine.

Yes, I'm seeing the same with ATV .75

Just tried a few DTS-HD 5.1 movies including A Fistful of Dollars 4K and I'm seeing it lock up the whole Shield where I can't click anything.  However, if I just wait like a minute or two it either starts playing again or I can use the remote again to restart it.

The standard app .50 works just fine.

Just sent logs at 1230 EDT user Rick.

Was paying A fistful of Dollars 4K DTS-HD 5.1.  Right after clicking Play I then hit FF and got it to lock up the Shield.  The Shield wouldn't take any commands.  Waited a couple minutes and I couldn't get it to play, but I was able to use the OSD and back out to the details page and resume.  After resuming I sent logs from the OSD.

I've tried different lengths of time with FF and it doesn't seem to matter I can always lock the Shield for a couple minutes using DTS-HD.  I also tried different flavors of DTS-HD and locked it up also including DTS:X.  However, the DTS:X movies I tried resumed by themselves after a couple minutes.

You know what'm gonna say on my post .. I have no issues what-so-ever on A Fistfull.. 4K Remux - Tried both HD-MA 5.1 and HD-MA 2.0 - ff/rw work perfectly - I can't make it error.  Tried both http and dfa to make it a direct comparison.  ATV 2.0.75

Why did you chaps go back to Android 11 again ? 🤔

But you are still on 8.2.3, right? All this worked correctly. Reason i went back is because i never could get dfa to actually work right on either shield and 9.1.0 seems solid for me so far except the ff issue yet standard app doesnt have this problem.

We are glutton for punishment :)  I upgraded to 9.1 to see if it fixed my Skip issue with DTS 2.0 and it did.  However, I've traded that problem for not being able to fast forward DTS-HD now.

However, I don't think it's the SE.  I have no issues with the standard app.  This problem may have been there for a while.  I rarely FF when watching movies

Well it must be 'something' related to the SE as I have no issues at all using exactly the same app on the same hardware.   I purposely used http so it would be as identical a setup to yours.

It would be interesting comparing the Android TV buffers to the Android App - they were both written in house, so presumably it should be easy enough to compare the code bases.. ?

Anyway - unless there is a very good reason to, I'm staying on 8.2.3 - basically because it's solid and I honestly do not have any issues with it at all, so I see zero reason to 'upgrade'.

There is some sort of error being thrown by the audio decoder on the device that, I guess, is locking everything up.

I suppose that's something that could be affected by the SE.  The standard app FF smooth though and I believe they are on the same Exoplayer now.

Only one way to fine out for sure.  @Audiomixeryou're going to have to fall back again 😂 j/k

LOL.  BTW I tried DTS 2.0 core with no issues.  Seems to be a problem with just DTS-HD from what I've seen so far.  Need to find DTS 5.1 though

This issue has gotten a lot better with .77 for me.  It no longer locks up my Shield when FFing DTS-HD.

That's very interesting.  Perhaps it was the sound effects causing the issue...
