Was driving myself crazy with at least a couple of these issues the last while.  Got used to power cycling between 2-5 times before the both the TV, Shield, and Soundbar would all be on, synced, and not displaying in boxed format.  Hopefully this update fixes everything for me.

So I'm still on SE8 on my shield - I don't have any particular reason to update it - but as all the noise has died down, I'm assuming that SE9 is now free of any major issues, and other than not having Direct File Access, for emby playback, it's no different to SE8 ?

Thanks.

I would look at the release notes really quick, but for me they haven't fixed anything that affects me.  There hasn't been anything new either that I even use.  Unless you're having some sort of hardware issue, I would say it probably would make no difference in your life other than ATV would no longer be able to have direct access.

SE9 does seem to run smooth without issues though.

Yes, i agree with this. As ATV direct access never worked on 8.2.3 for me anyway I had no reason to not update. In fact some streaming apps such as apple tv+ no long have that micro stutter when viewing 4k DV/atmos content on 9.1 as 8.2.3 did.

Do you have to sign up for this, like with previous hotfixes?

I've never had this this issue - ffwd/fwd has always been fine with dts-hd - but this may be because I'm still on the previous Shield Experience (Android 9) version still by choice.

Concerning that old DTS-MA stutter issue on resume with the ATV app, the nvidia update does not address it so it is still there.  The standard app isn’t plagued by it.

Apparently the standard app is very plagued by this stutter as well. Even plex has it now. Definitely don’t upgrade until this is fixed.

  • Resolves issue with choppy video playback after FFWD/RWD operations. Most certainly broken.

I fell back to SE8 to do some testing and then tried going back to SE9, but it installed the hotfix again automatically.  Didn't give me the choice not to.  Hopefully HF #2 will be out soon.  Been a month now, I think.
