Audio/Video Sync Issues.

Emby has recently developed audio/video sync issues. It appears to effect recorded TV. I tend to watch shows while they are being recorded. But I delay starting playback by 20 minutes or better so that I can fast forward through the commercials. Audio/video seems to be in sync at the beginning of playback but becomes more more out of sync as playback progresses. Half way through an hour program it becomes unwatchable. The problem manifest when playing back with Emby Theater (3.0.15) or the web app. I've attached the most recent log files. Let me know what other information I can provide or is needed.

Another night. Another episode recorded with audio and video out of sync. Played it back with VLC to see if the player was the issue. Nope. Audio and video out of sync with VLC too.

Does the audio get back in sync when you slightly skip back and forth?

Could you please try to replace (after backup copying) hls.min.js with this version:

hls.min.js.zip

It's in the dashboard-ui/modules/hlsjs folder of the server installation

You may need to refresh the browser cache in edge and F5 refresh to be sure you get the new version when trying playback.

If none of the above helps, we should collect some data from the source and output files.

Could you please try the following steps?

  • Prerequisites
    • Update to Emby Server 4.7.2
    • Install the Diagnostics Plugin from the catalog
    • Reboot
  • EDD Generation
    • Go to "Diagnostic Options" on the server dashboard
    • Scroll to the bottom where it says: Diagnostic Data Generation
    • Check all three boxes
    • Save
    • Reproduce the problem

I don't think so. I'm always skipping through the commercials. When doing so the problem remains. The recording starts out fine, but as playback progresses the audio/video sync issue begins to manifest and gets worse.

Please try to replace the ffmpeg in the Emby system folder with one of these and see whether it makes a change.

ffmpeg_versions.zip 45.75 MB · 2 downloads

I'm going to assume that you would like for me to do one change at a time and test. The zip file contains two versions. I'll chose what appears to be the newest (2022-01-14). I'll backup the current version of ffmpeg.exe in ...AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\system and replace it with the version in the 2022-01-14 folder.

If my assumption is correct, the next scheduled recording is on Monday evening. I'll wait and review that recording and report back. If this step fails, then I'll move on to replacing hls.min.js.

If my asumption is incorrect, and you want me to go ahead and replace hls.min.js now, then let me know.

Thanks for the help.

Update... I guess I could just schedule a recording of something today as a test case and see what happens.

Just as a note. It appears that Emby was automatically updated to 4.7.2.0 today.

That's fine, you'll need to redo the replacements.

Yes, I meant to try one at a time.

The hls.js affects watching in the browser (do F5 and clear the browser cache after replacing).

I forgot to ask: when the recording is completed and you play it then, do you see the same problem?

On this step. Waiting for next recording tomorrow evening.

Ok here are tonight's logs. Unfortunately I didn't catch to the part about a short recording. Tonight's recording was for the whole show/hour. Roughly a 1.7G file.

I could try to do a short recording, but I'm not sure the issue would manifest. Usually it doesn't start going sideways until about halfway through playback of the hour long episode. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

1.7GB is fine!

Doesn't that exceed the max file size for messaging/attachments?

Just a follow up note...

I've been using Plex to fill in as a DVR. Playback via Emby. The recordings produced by Plex have no problems.

Hi, can you please try this version:

And then create a new recording and let us know how that compares. Thanks.

Is there suppose to be a install file here, or am I just supposed to replace the contents of the system folder with the contents of this system folder?
