DVB Viewer Plugin - Some channels work, some not

Hi,

I've installed the new Emby Server 4.7.1 with the DVB Viewer Plugin 1.6.7.
I've a Lifetime Emby-Premiere-Abo and the needed licence for DVBViewer and DVBMediaServer to be able to run this setup.
For DVBViewer, I use TV channels via DVB-S2 as well as DVB-T2 two tuners each. DVB-S2 uses a unicable setup.
I guess the unicable setup is less important, more important could be the difference between T2 and S2 as they use different Codec's as far
as I know.

In DVB Viewer everything works fine, I can access DVB-S2 as well as DVB-T2 channels

In Emby I can see some channels and some channels not. This behavior shows up in Emby Theater, Firefox Emby Web interface, Emby App on IPad.

You'll find the log files attached.

Good case called Arte HD as reference:
Arte HD works EmbyServer.txt
Arte HD works ffmpeg-trancode..... txt

Failed case called Disney Channel:
Disney Channel doesnt work embyServer.txt
Disney Channel doesnt work ffmpeg-trancode...txt
Emby Server Error message Disney Channel.jpg

Evidence that Disney Channel works in DVBViewer:
DVBViewer Disney Channel works.JPG

My guess is that it is something arround the codec used and my settings in DVBViewer and/or EmbyServer. But after some day's playing around without
success, I hope that someone with more experience could give me an advice.

I would rank my level of knowledge as advanced beginner - so it might be that it is a simple point for you which I just don't see :-)).

I tried to put the relevant info's together, if something is missing please let me know.

Btw. i don't have problems with channels that have mpeg2 as video codec. But i have a Nvidia graphics card not AMD. Just as a test i suggest you to switch to software transcoding in Emby.

Hi pünktchen,

you're right, I've disabled HW transcoding and ... Disney Channel works as well.
So it seems a topic of AMD HW transcoding in combination with mpeg2 files.

@softworkzDo you've all informations needed or should I add something ?

Thanks for your fast help

Do you see the same problem when recording from the channel and play back after the recording is finished?

I've enabled HW transcoding, did a record of one movie of the Disney channel (with DVBViewer, file extentsion *.ts) and finally did a import in Emby. This file is playing without any problem.

Direct after I tried to look live TV of Disney channel and it failed.

Was it ok to record the movie directly with DVBViewer or should I've done it dirctly out of EMBY ?

Logs are attached.

It's good to have that as a comparison, but I meant to record with Emby.

Thanks,

Did a record of a TV Disney Channel movie with Emby (HW transcoding off). This movie was played correctly by Emby later on (both, HW transcoding on and off).

Not sure if it's matter, but I've now started a movie record by Emby allready with HW transcoding activated. I'll post the result as well.

Did now a record of a TV Disney Channel movie with Emby (HW transcoding enabled). This movie played correctly by Emby later on with HW transcoding enabled.
Again, I tried to watch a live TV Disney Channel movie with HW transcoding enabled which failed.

Results by use case so far:
1. HW transcoding didn't show an impact for recording a TV movie
2. with HW transcoding enabled it is possible to record and watch the recorded movie later on
3. with HW trancoding enabled it is not possible to live stream a Disney channel TV movie
4. with HW trancoding enabled it is possible to live stream TV movies from some other channels
5. with HW transcoding disabled it is possible to live stream a Disney channel TV movie

So the problem occurs as a combination of HW transcoding enabled + live stream + special channels only.

I guess I answered on your request. In case something is missing please let me know

OK, thanks for doing these tests.

We'll have to see what @Luke thinks, as I'm not familiar with live tv in the current versions.

Ok,

if we take Pünktchens feedback into consideration as well the Problem occured under these conditons:

HW transcoding enabled + live stream + special channels only + AMD graphics

special channels might be equal to special codecs

Hi Luke,

I've updated to:
emby server 4.7.2
DVBViewer 7.2.2.0
DVBViewer MediaServer 3.2.2.0
and now Disney Channel works as well with HW transcoding enabled :-).

I don't know which update was finally solving the issue. Do you have any guess ?

all the best,

@Luke

Hi Luke,

unfortunately the problem is back again. It seems to be a sporadic error within the emby server which occurs only with HW transcoding enabled, codec h264, ...

Currently I've just two choices:

1. Enable HW transcoding and don't use live TV

2. Disable HW transcoding and use live TV

I'm ready to support debugging, but please let me know when someone will be ready active work on this.

Thanks,
emby_fan

Hi, are you still running into this?

Hi Luke,

to early to answer. I only have live TV on my productive server and it is not the most famous use case.
Second, it seems like timing could have an impact. My current hypothesis:

With HW transcoding enabled, emby needs more time to "setup the stream". Right now I've disabled the "direct tuning" option in DVB Viewer, which is an option
to speed up the channel "identification". Now I'm using the slower option, in parallel I activated an option to try it several times. After a first check today it seems
that this is improving the situation. As I didn't know what is the worst case scenario, I can just believe on statistics for testing which means more time.

It might be that my wording isn't the correct one, as I'm not a specialist on this things. In case something isn't clear out of my description just ask and don't interpretate.

Hi Luke,

please see my summary:

1. without HW transcoding enabled, all live TV channels are working like expected. Not even one problem detected

2. With HW transcoding enabeled typically H264 or DVB S2 channels typically doesn‘t work, whereas H265 or DVBT2 channels still work without any problem.

I mention H264 or DVB S2 because both characterize the live TV channels in scope and I don‘t know what makes the difference.

I mention typically because there was a period of time were the channels in scope works with HW transcoding enabled.
During the time of investigation, all channels were at any time operational with DVB Link, therefor I exclude that the problem is in the area of LNB, cables, TV Card or DVB SW.

Now I‘m leaving the area of facts and make a guess:

could ist be that the realtime behaivior of Emby to setup a live TV stream is different depending on HW Transcoding is enabled or not ?

If so, could ist be that this difference produces somewhere a Kind of timeout ?

Based on my knowledge, I‘m currently running out of ideas what to do more to identify the rootcause. For now, I‘ll stopp further  investigations and run my system with HW transcoding disabled.

In case you‘ve questions or ideas of test conditions which helps you analysing the rootcause please let me know.
