Hi

I have been having a lot of issues with downloading subtitles with emby for Kodi only in tv shows I always get failed to download subtitle I have tried with multiple friends and different subtitles add-on they all failed I think this issue is related to the tvdb scrapper if there is a way I can change it through emby add-on settings

I assume you are using addon mode. Also I assume Kodi needs native pathes for subtitle download (via Kodi) -> destination where to store the subtitles.

yes I'm using add-on mode because this server is for a friend of mine and the subtitles download and works perfectly for movies its just the tv shows section that has this issue and I think that because it depend on tvdb scrapper and the movies depend on the movie database but I can't change the default scrapper for tv shows at all

OnDownloadComplete - Saving of subtitle /Users/mac/Library/Application Support/Kodi/userdata/addon_data/service.subtitles.a4ksubtitles/temp/Severance.S01E01.HDR.2160p.WEB.H265-PECULATE.eng.srt to special://temp/embyvideo-f608e73e19fc46f68e8c13b8eee29f33-3077266-b5f8ff3c811752a524aeac18e817f459-371980_en_a1cde82f1bcacb08a3373238f688ceb4_001_0001-2749871-5154-5154-episode-25107566-True-1-1-1-hevc-Severance__2022____S01E01_REPACK__WEBDL_2160p_HEVC_HDR_10_BIT_EAC3_Atmos_5.1__TEPES.en.srt faile

That's the problem. Could be a permission issue, cause I performed a test with same the subtitle plugin and works fine on my Laptop.

Also possible, your Mac doesn't like the filename.

I don't believe this is the issue because I can download movies subtitles without any problem it works with local content but not with emby for Kodi

and also I have tried android tv and windows and libreelec same issue

Well, the only difference between local content and emby content should be the destination path. It's quite long.

special://temp/embyvideo-f608e73e19fc46f68e8c13b8eee29f33-3077266-b5f8ff3c811752a524aeac18e817f459-371980_en_a1cde82f1bcacb08a3373238f688ceb4_001_0001-2749871-5154-5154-episode-25107566-True-1-1-1-hevc-Severance__2022____S01E01_REPACK__WEBDL_2160p_HEVC_HDR_10_BIT_EAC3_Atmos_5.1__TEPES.en.srt

You can try to write a text file as a test with the exact filename. btw "special://" is Kodi's internal path mapper

The actual destination should be somewhere here tv.kodi.Kodi/data/temp in the app dir. It's dynamic and depends on the used device.

as i said this only happens with tv shows i have tried a movie with this name it downloads perfectly

(embyvideo-f608e73e19fc46f68e8c13b8eee29f33-1931055-7568581d8454312c7aed231b96fef7b8-7568581d8454312c7aed231b96fef7b8-695918-9-9-movie-86241006-True-1-1-2-hevc-310_to_Yuma__2007___Remux_2160p_h265_HDR_10_BIT_DTS_X_7.1__FraMeSToR.mkv)

I don't believe this issue about the naming scheme and btw everything was working fine a while ago it just suddenly wont download for any tv show

I have a very similar issue, where I could download for some, but not others, and I've just figured it out.

It's when the filename of the subtitle exceeds 255 characters. That's why for me it was working for some and not others as the 'embyvideo-f608e73e19fc46f...' stuff is taking up most of the character limit, then the actual file name doesn't have much left to use, so the title of the episode can easily put it over the edge and cross over the 255 character limit, causing it to fail to write.

The 255 character limit is an android wide thing (and it's the same length limit on MacOS too, and 260 on Win), so hopefully Emby Next Gen can work on cutting down the character limit of the called for file names?

btw, there is nothing to be actually fixed. I'll try to shorten the urls hoping it will not exceed the character limit too often, but I cannot increase a hardcoded OS/FS limit.

I know we can't change the character limit, but what you propose would be the fix we're hoping for lol.

I think if you could shave off around 30 characters that'd do the job just fine :)

Will do so in next 7.x version. I removed some older (no longer used info), approximately 40-50 chars. If it's still not enough, I could also shorten the "filename" at the tail of the url.

The filename extension is mandatory so Kodi can identify the content by extension (mkv, mp4, mp3 etc) but the actual filename is just for convenience.

Also I could shorten the prefix from e.g. "embyvideo" to "ev". It's also just a unique ID for the internal webserver.

Sounds perfect! The more characters you can safely shave off the better I guess, it'll help avoid issues down the line, in case TV shows get more pretentious with their titles 😂

Thanks man, much appreciated!

Great ideas shorten whatever you can because there are some tv shows with really long names
waiting for the next version will it be in the next build?

I performed some tests, I cannot shorten the native filename, cause it could include required tags like "atmos" or "3d". Anyway, I shortened all other infos and think should be sufficient.

The example from above will be shortened to:

ve-f608e73e19fc46f68e8c13b8eee29f33-3077266-b5f8ff3c811752a524aeac18e817f459-5154-5154-25107566-1-1-hevc-Severance__2022____S01E01_REPACK__WEBDL_2160p_HEVC_HDR_10_BIT_EAC3_Atmos_5.1__TEPES.en.srt

...which are 196 characters.

instead of:

embyvideo-f608e73e19fc46f68e8c13b8eee29f33-3077266-b5f8ff3c811752a524aeac18e817f459-371980_en_a1cde82f1bcacb08a3373238f688ceb4_001_0001-2749871-5154-5154-episode-25107566-True-1-1-1-hevc-Severance__2022____S01E01_REPACK__WEBDL_2160p_HEVC_HDR_10_BIT_EAC3_Atmos_5.1__TEPES.en.srt

...which are 278 characters.

Please test with latest 7.x version. Kodi DB reset is mandatory!

I have tried it I think the subtitles issue is fixed but there is a new issue with syncing it always stuck at 1% for huge movies library  and It always says emby is busy scanning metadata folder and scan media folder

"Emby server is busy" -> this is just a notification that the Emby server is currently doing something. e.g. scanning etc.

This is just a notification and Kodi's realtime updates are queued till Emby server has finished his jobs. It does not affect the initial database sync.

Anyway, please upload a regular kodi.log for review. Maybe there is a bug, but I think Emby server is actually working on tasks.

I'll add an option to hide those messages, but currently (for development) it's quite useful to know, if Emby server is busy.

Busy Emby server btw has an impact to sync performance.

Thanks, that's a bug. The movie AFTER "Absolute Evel: The Evel Knievel Story" has no proper stream-AspectRatio.

I'll fix it in next version. Just to be clear, this seems to be a problem with the movie itself. If there is no good reason why info missing info for that movie,  it should be transmitted while sync.

What I will do while sync is just ignoring the missing info.
