Direct Playback Error

The Samsung video player may occasionally have trouble with certain files and raise an error. When this happens, the Emby Samsung app automatically switches to server transcoding in order to ensure successful playback. Does this answer your question?

Does this error occur because of the file format? The mediainfo seems OK to me.

Usually when this happens the media info of the file looks like something the TV should support, because if it didn't then the app would just have it transcode to begin with.

There is probably something about the way the file is encoded that it just doesn't like. Unfortunately it's hard to be more specific because the Samsung video player doesn't really give us exact reasons about the errors that it raises. @SamES has spent a lot of time on this and may have more insight that he can provide.

Is this an mkv? What you could try is to remux it into a new mkv using mkvtoolnix, making no other changes apart from just re-packaging it into a new mkv. Then see if the TV is able to handle the new file.

I can't see anything obvious, but as Luke mentions, the error you are are seeing occurs when the file should DirectPlay (based on specs that we know are compatible) but for some reason it was not able to.  Therefore, the media specs look fine, but there is probably something inconsistent in the file itself.

Remember that mkv is a container format (as are  mp4, avi, etc) so it is just a wrapper around the video, audio and sub tracks.  I've seen cases where the track specs are fine, but the fault is in the container.  As Luke suggested, using mkvtoolnix to copy all the tracks to a new mkv file is very quick as it just rewrites the tracks into a new mkv container without any conversion.  Often this is enough to fix the playback issue.

It looks like the error is specific to the Samsung TV model. My TV is also Samsung and did direct playback.
