Cannot Install Server or MBT/EMC

If you get the error "Application cannot be started.  Please contact the application vendor" when attempting to install either the Windows Server or Media Browser Theater, please try the following:

Clear your ClickOnce Cache by running the following command at a command prompt on the problem machine:

rundll32 dfshim CleanOnlineAppCache

ClickOnce is a Microsoft Deployment Technology that we use to deliver our installer and ensure that all required 3rd-party components are also installed on the target machine.

Next: Disable Internet Explorer Enhanced Security. See http://www.visualwin.com/IE-Enhanced-Security-2008/

In very rare cases, even the above won't work.  If this is still the case for you, the other only solution Microsoft has is to re-create the user profile on the machine.

Finally, if you're running Windows 7, ensure that Service Pack 1 (SP1) is installed. You can do this using Windows Updates.
