Subtitles brightness: dimmer

Android TV. In the subtitle brightness option dropdown there is one called "dimmer". Could someone explain to me what this option does?

Even more dim than the "dim" option.  Some people complain that subtitles are too bright on their HDR TVs

ok, thanks. I asked this because I use Android TV in Spanish and this "dimmer" option has been literally translated as "Regulador de intensidad", which doesn't make much sense.

Ya, that didn't translate too well.  A dimmer switch can be used to regulate the intensity of the light in a room which is probably why it translated to what you see.
