Hi,

from a couple of weeks I have a new sony XH90 tv...

Emby works well but I have a problem with some files..

here's the screen of how they are playing:

Here's the app version:

image.thumb.png.fae85253de7347d482844551ca4dc317.png

Tried the same file on android mobile, web player (transcode) and emby theater and the video it's ok on all players..

Additionally when trying to lower the bitrate the tv app gives a message: "too many errors"

Do you need the original file to do some tests?

and send the log after that message?  Then also provide the ffmpeg logs that are generated.

Thanks.

Hi need to send these logs from the app menu.

When lowering the bitrate the message appear and the player try to play the next item giving again "too many errors" and so on..

I sended the logs at 23.02 Rome time..

here's all ffmpeg logs: ffmpeg.zip

To be clear here's the steps done:

1. started the s01E01-02 (the video had problem like first post photo)

2 lowered the bitrate

3. the player loading animation started spinning and checking the lower player bar the app tried to play the next files (S01E03-04, S01E05-06, S01E07-08 and so on) giving always error.

Try turning off hardware acceleration in the transcoding settings on the server and see if that solves that issue.  If it does, @softworkz can probably suggest some specific setting changes to make in there to get it to work with hardware.  Whatever is being produced by the transcoder, the player does not like at all.

I turned off hardware transcoding

But the video has still problems (check the first post and notice that the player is direct playing).

Additionally lowering the bitrate cause the same behaviour as previous post..

Can we please look at an example of that? Thanks.

Hi.  I'm not sure what the issue is as all your samples played fine on my Sony Android TV.

Can you see if maybe there is a firmware update for your TV?

Checked now..no software update..are you using the same app version? Stable server?

Additionally I have some small differences in nerd stats

What is Dv limited? And the mp3 is in software decode..

Yes, I'm using the current beta of the app but the beta of the server.  Since the item is direct playing, the server version should not matter.

Your TV supports DV but mine doesn't (is a bit older) but that also should not have an impact on this item which is old MPEG4 content.

Something is clearly different but I'm at a bit of a loss as to what at this point.  The fact that the items still don't play properly when transcoded seems to indicate an issue with the TV somehow.

If you force a transcode on any other video - one with a more current format like h264 and 1080 resolution - does it play okay?

And those are playing okay?  It is just these old mpeg4 programs with issues?

Yep. All movies or show that I tried so far (I have the tv from a couple of weeks) works perfectly.

Only the files are having this video problem.

Additionally I tried to use external player setting (mx player) and these are played ok..

Is there any display on your TV that would show you if maybe the TV is switching into Dolby Vision or some other mode with those videos?

Nope as far as I know..

But I can tell you that when with netflix I start playing a dolby vision content the tv switch the colours, tones and brightness according to the dolby vision profile. IDK if this behaviour is only for netflix app or os wide..

When playing content with emby app nothing of writen above happens..

Hi, I found another bunch of episode of another show with the same behaviour..

This is very annoying..

Tried with standard android tv app and the sideloaded one..

Using external player is the only way to reproduce on tv..

And here's how the video is showing (audio is perfect):

As additional infos I can tell that I tried this old not h264/h265 videos even with dlna and it doesn't work..

seems that the tv (sony XH90) doesn't support this old formats..there's a way to tell emby to force transcoding on this particular device this files when starting playing?

if you check the past posts the reproduction is actually direct, when forcing to lower the bitrate I have errors..

After many test I can confirm that the tv (and emby apps as well) have problem with not h264/h265 videos.

The server treat the file as direct play, but need to be started with transcode...

so....how we handle it @Luke and @ebr?

for the moment if I have to watch a KO content, I convert it with handbrake first..but is not a solution.. mxplayer and vlc works fine..
