Emby using Incorrect external media player

With the Emby for Android application from the Google playstore (Android 12, pixel 6 pro, not rooted), I have some media files that don't work with the default/internal media player which emby uses (I have audio with corrupted images). When I set an external media player, I want to use MX Player, but emby instead uses Google Photos as the external media player and it fails to play the video entirely (no audio, black screen). If I disable Google Photos, emby will correctly use MX player (no issue with playback).

I went through my defaults with Google photos (settings and system), but I don't think there is a way to nix it's playback capabilities. Is there a way to choose which external media player to use within emby itself?

@eschreeee as a test, if you install VLC, does that change anything?

After installing VLC, when I press play within Emby, a pop up asked which video player I wanted to use (option between VLC and Google Photos, MX Player not listed) and choosing VLC has it working like expected. Thank you!
