gcoupe 63
Good to see that support for photo metadata is improving. However, where can I find details of what is being supported, and the standards used? I would hope that MBS will support/expose at least the IPTC Core standards. Having support for People Tags using the MWG standard (which Picasa also now uses) would be also good.

gcoupe 63
Support for nested Keywords (hierarchy) would be good. Well, yes, it would be good, but - as the old joke goes - the trouble with Standards is that there's so many to choose from. The old way of representing a hierarchy in the Keywords is to use a delimiter in the Keyword field, but different vendors use different characters (e.g. a period, forward slash or the pipe character). The de facto standard that seems to be taking hold is a separate XMP schema for representing a keyword hierarchy as used by Adobe in Lightroom - it's proprietary to Adobe, but some other vendors' products can work with it. There's also a proposed de jure standard proposed by the Metadata Working Group; an industry consortium including Adobe and Microsoft. However, no product currently on the market seems to have implemented it - not even Adobe...
cncb 17
The delimiter "standard" for a hierarchy has been used for quite a while and is supported by Windows and several other programs including Lightroom. The forward slash '/' could be supported by default with options to support others. The Keywords just need to be imported to begin with and they could even deal with the hierarchy at "run time". gcoupe 63
Microsoft (in Windows and in Windows Photo Gallery) only supports the forward slash as a delimiter. Lightroom is more flexible, and can deal with periods, forward and backward slash and the pipe when importing or reading metadata. However, Adobe view using delimiters in the Keyword field as legacy, and it is deprecated in favour of their XMP schema for handling keyword hierarchies. It's a minefield out there at the moment. cncb 17
Either XMP/Adobe format or delimiter with a specified character. I wouldn't call two options a minefield and I hope the MB guys feel the same way.
gcoupe 63
Just you try using multiple tools in your Digital Asset Management workflow tasks, and you'll see what I mean about it being a minefield. Each product interprets the multiple standards out there in its own sweet way, and things can very easily blow up in your face unless you step *very* carefully.
