Can't jump in recording

I just recorded my first show with Emby.  The file is there, shows 1 hour 6 minutes.  Says Direct Playing on my NVidia Shield Pro.  However, when I try to jump or fast forward with the remote like I do when in my downloaded shows, or movies within Emby, it just starts over.  So I press the right arrow on the remote which jumps 30 seconds normally in shows and in the LiveTV area it starts over.  Thoughts?

Yes, turn off direct play in settings. TS files don't work well with direct play.

Thanks I'll convert them and try again.  Funny thing though.  I ran the hour thru MediaBuddy and it either found one entry or none as it was one line long.  All I got:

356.920    4010.760    0

Not a problem here but since I can't play the show thru right now by jumping around hard to know but definitely know it has commercials being a network channel.

You don't need to convert, just let your server transcode. Unless the server can't handle it.

That won't help.  If it's a TS file and my system can play it natively, it isn't going to transcode.  If the problem with jumping around is that it's a TS file then it would need to be converted.  That said, I told MediaBuddy to make an MKV out of it and it ended up being 17 minutes but hung so apparently the file created in Emby wasn't good.  Oh well.

It could be a bad file, but in the Android TV app you can force transcode by turning off direct play for ts files.

Actually, this will just cause a remux/container swap but will allow seeking.

Obviously not great if the first record I do is bad, but continuing to try.  I am not sure if ts files won't seek or not as I question if the file was corrupt or not.  It was odd as the file was several gigs for a 1 hour show which I could say OK that could be.  But when I used MediaBuddy switch containers to MKV it basically was a hundred and some megs.  Plus the commercial detection basically found nothing.  Did a few half hour shows so will see how that goes.

Do what the others mentioned and turn off Direct Play on the Shield TV for Live TV.

This will cause it to remux (not transcode) on the server which isn't a big deal but makes Live TV and Transport Streams (TS) "workable".

Transport streams don't have timing codes (they are dumb) so the client players have a tough time with them.

Hit enter to quickly above.

I know it's natural to want everything to Direct Play, but when it comes to Live TV and TS Recordings "Direct Play" is not the Holy Grail to try and achieve. It has many limitations as  Transport streams are a completely different ballgame then MP4, MKV and HLS streams which have header info that many clients needs for jumping, skipping through video.

When I move the material into an MKV it still is flaky to play and even crashes Emby on the Sheid.  Probably only thing I have that is flaky to play.  Not sure if it's specific to hanging or the crash, but when I try and play one of the recordings I saw the below in the logs.  As mentioned not sure if directly tied to it:

Why are you still converting it? Just record a show and turn off direct play. See how it performs when you do that.

Hi. The image error is completely unrelated.  It is just saying an image the app wanted isn't there.

No but I removed it.  The proxy option took over my tuners and reloaded like 60 times and then WMC couldn't use them anymore and couldn't do live tv.  I'm going to revisit this later.
