Why can't I identify this series

In general I do get very frustrated with this aspect of Emby

I have a Directory

The Big M

Inside this directory are six files

S01E01 The Big M.mkv

...

S01E06 The Big M.mkv

Of course Emby misidentifies this as "The Big Bang Theory" I'm used to this kind of nonsense

So I do "identify" and use the imdb id tt0403729 as the criterion

Emby comes up blank

Why doesn't this work???

It seems impossible to tell Emby what series this is

Emby doesn't use IMDB as a data source, so depending on your metadata fetchers it will likely use:

With a quick look I can't seem to find 'The Big M' on either TVDB or TMDB, so I suspect this is why you are unable to identify this particular series.

That explains my problem, but doesnt solve it

And by the way it's not an isolated instance

Other than adding metadata manually into Emby, not much you can do here if the source doesn't contain the data. Both of those metadata services allow you to add a series that you feel is missing.

You should consider contributing so as to help others in the community 🙂

Or maybe Emby could add IMDB as a data source, as actually it's the least bad in my experience. All of these databases are riddled with errors, it would be a lifetime's work to fix them.

Have you tried enabling OMDB as a data source? OMDB can use the IMDBid provided

I just added a test of 'The Big M (1967)' and was able to successfully pull back info

It's a matter of money.

Thanks @seanbuff that has worked, I wasnt aware of the OMDB option. In general this area of Emby can do with a lot of improvement but at least this solves my immediate problem. Cheers.

@pwhodges I didn't know Amazon monetises access to IMDB, I thought it was just a promotion tool for their website. Well there you go.

If anyone is still listening 😉 , is there any similar solution for this one

Codename Portcullis (1969)

IMDB tt0398876

It's actully the pilot for a 1970 series called Codename, not a stand alone movie, by the way

It appears to exist in OMDB, but doesn't get returned by Emby

Hi, I get a match back for this movie but there isn't a poster for it.

You could use something like this for the poster:

Thanks @cayars

i wonder if it’s because I set it up as

Directory: Codename

S01E00 Codename - Portcullis

and this causes Emby to restrict the query to type=series

I’m going to check this out later

I have a similar thing the other way round where I have a single episode of a series

Directory: Crane

S03E10 A Cargo of Cornflour

And Emby persistently wants to identify this as a movie Hilda Crane

I set it up as a movie with folder and file name "Codename Portcullis (1969)".

S01E00 is none existent on TMDB or TVDB, and the episode is not listed either.  But in theory it would be S00E01 as they are specials specific to that season.

Some one would needs to add this episode to TMDB and TVDB.

But this is a TV Movie on IMDB so there are issue when it come to applying these to a Series but that is a provider issue.  Yes it is identifiable via OMDB as a Movie ie not part of a Series.

Would need more specifics as a Series/episode can not be identified as a Movie.

Don't thank me yet 😉 I didn't do anything! I got as far last weekend as checking all the data sources for all the libraries and bringing them all into line and rescanning everything. I'll hopefully get onto it this weekend, especially if the new beta is available for my servers by then

OK here is one example at least

Library is type: Mixed

Directory: Crane

has just one file

S03E10 A Cargo of Cornflour

This is always identified as a Movie, Hilda Crane

This is now on the new beta by the way 4.7.0.5

OMDB give this, correctly

{"Title":"Crane","Year":"1963–1965","Rated":"N/A","Released":"02 Apr 1963","Runtime":"60 min","Genre":"Adventure","Director":"N/A","Writer":"Patrick Alexander, Jordan Lawrence","Actors":"Patrick Allen, Sam Kydd, Gerald Flood, Laya Raki","Plot":"The adventures of Richard Crane, cafe owner & part-time smuggler, around the coast of Morocco, aided (and sometimes abetted) by his ex-Foreign Legion sidekick Orlando, waitress Halina, and ...","Language":"English","Country":"UK","Awards":"N/A","Poster":"https://m.media-amazon.com/images/M/MV5BZWY2Mjk2OTktZjFlMC00MGQwLWEwOWQtNjFhMmI5MjU5NThhXkEyXkFqcGdeQXVyNjgyNTk4NTY@._V1_SX300.jpg","Ratings":[{"Source":"Internet Movie Database","Value":"8.4/10"}],"Metascore":"N/A","imdbRating":"8.4","imdbVotes":"32","imdbID":"tt0159861","Type":"series","totalSeasons":"3","Response":"True"}

That's likely going to happen as you don't have specific Movie and specific TV Show libraries which would make sure the match is for that library type.
Not helping anything is a simple "Crane" with no year in the folder name.

The best thing you can do is make sure to use specific library types to match the content type and to follow our naming convention for both movies and shows.

It might depend on your meta-data order what results you get.
This would take some testing to answer for sure however.

But if you can do what's mentioned in my previous post this would likely "fix" itself.

Is this library actually mixed content (mix of movies and shows) or is it just shows?

Have you tried looking up the ID on the meta-data provider site and filling this in on the Identify screen?

OK I do apologise - didnt show on on Title Crane but did show up on IMDB idD tt0159861

Let's pause this thread until I get a chance to click my brain into better gear, what I really want 😉
