  1. Hi, @SamES I have another "unnecessary transcoding" issue. This happens with both h264 and h265 4096x2160 files, but not 3840x2160. I've already tried: playing the same files from USB - works OK, and both files go without issues playing via DLNA - works OK, and both files go as above which is strange on second thought because I can't see h265 in the mp4 in DLNA profile for the Samsung Smart TV updating the TV app to beta 1.8.8 (was 1.8.0 from the Tizen store) - no help deactivating transcoding completely in Server -> User settings - works OK again, both files go on the TV but then there'll be a problem on mobile phones, I guess TV specs (QE65Q80DAT) indicate it should play 4096x2160 files OK which I guess gets confirmed by playing it by different methods. I'm assuming from the ffmpeg log that the reason for transcoding is the size alone. By "working via DLNA" I mean there's no ffmpeg log for these sessions. The same applies to the deactivated transcoding option. The server is 4.8.8.0 running on MacOS 12.7.6 Monterey. It is not a huge issue, it's not a deal breaker and I'm still going to go with the Premiere option for other features anyway. Just my i5 4th gen can only do h264 transcoding so I'm wondering if there's something I can do, encode it (in HandBrake) in a different way or set something else I haven't tried yet. I can always go with 3840 size which is not trigging transcoding BTW, the same settings just scaled down to 3840x2160. ffmpeg-transcode-23b45996-a07b-48af-9e6b-3b9e59cb1fff_1_h265-4096x2160.txt ffmpeg-transcode-def4edf7-7528-491b-b8de-33741a57e77d_1_for_h264-4096x2160.txt
  2. Hello everyone, I’m setting up an Emby server on a NAS DS224+ and have reached the transcoding section, a topic I’m not very familiar with. The NAS processor is an Intel Celeron J4125, which, according to its technical specs and what I found on Wikipedia, has the following compatibility: Transcoding: MPEG-2, AVC, VP8, HEVC, HEVC 10-bit. Decoding only: VC-1, VP9, VP9 10-bit. My question is how to interpret this information in Emby’s settings. Each codec seems to have at least two configuration options, and there’s a priority order between them. I recently purchased the Emby license, giving me access to the Transcoding Tests plugin. However, I found it quite overwhelming due to the number of available options. I decided to perform the file-based test and selected all the options available. Then, I assigned a folder for the tests and started the task. This generated several files in the assigned folder and began a series of tests, but most of them are returning errors. Additionally, I noticed there are over 1200 tests, and after 2 hours, only 16 tests have been completed. Is this normal, or did I do something wrong? I’d greatly appreciate it if someone with experience in this topic could guide me on how to properly configure transcoding in Emby. Thank you in advance!
  3. So I've recently run into a strange issue where my temp transcode folder becomes enormous in a short period of time. After researching, I noticed that it was being filled with .ts transcode files from live tv after relatively short viewing terms. From what I could tell, It looks like the problem is two fold, 1) the temp files aren't actually being deleted. 2) streaming from my live tv, the sessions apparently aren't terminating after viewing has stopped. An example, today in "Now playing" it showed a friend that watched part of a football game the day before. Not until rebooting Emby was the session terminated. What's weird, is I've had the same live tv setup for awhile and had never run into either issue until recently but I've read that others have run into similar issues in the past. If anyone has any ideas/suggestions to remedy this, Id love to hear any suggestions. I had to turn live tv off in the interim and definitely would miss it. Thanks

    Blurry frames using vaapi transcoding

I'm abroad and the wifi isn't the best so is trying to use transcoding but it's driving me nuts, I choose 1mbit 720p and it looks Okey but for like 0.5 sec every 5 sec or so it blurs the image, like it drops bitrate or something but only for 0.5 sec then it looks fine for 5 sec and then it does it again. Is there any one who had an idea of what the problem is? Is it a setting issue? I don't have access to the server right now so I can't get the server logs. So I'm just taking a chance that some one have had the same problem. If I get access to the server what logs are of value? I'm using a Intel CPU the latest emby server for Debian on a lxc container.
  5. Is it possible to encode with H265 instead of H264. I know my Rx480 supports it H265 encoding in OBS
  6. Hi, I have the newest emby server in my network and some clients (fire tv sticks) where everthing is working perfect. but I have one old windows 7 media center running with MB classic on it. But the MediaCenter pc is too old to run HEVC H.265 videos as direct stream. But I didn't got it to work, that emby server will transcode this codecs for my MB classic. Is there a possibilty to force this, or is MB classic only able to direct stream, but not ask the server for a transcode? br puntipk

    Transcoding question

I'm not sure I've quite got my head around the transcoding, direct stream, direct play config from MBS. I've searched, and read a few threads about transcoding. But everyone asks slightly different questions. Usually related to Android, iOS or Roku devices. So i'm going to ask my own questions. I'm still researching MB3 before making the jump from MB2. At the moment I'm not concerned about using mobile devices (phones or tablets). Will be installing MB3 server/classic on my HTPC & media is stored on a NAS. If I use MB Theatre on a Win 8.1 laptop (doesn't have WMC) with the same codecs installed (Shark btw), that connects to the Server install on the HTPC. Will the HTPC just direct play (or is that direct stream??), so HTPC doesn't perform any transcoding? Presumably then the transcoding is performed on the laptop. Is that right? If I currently use my Xbox 360 as an extender (with MB2) watching movies. It causes the HTPC to run hotter, as this transcodes the movies to the 360, making the fan profile kick in and make more noise. WAF doesn't approve! Hoping that using a laptop will prevent this annoyance I understand that even with MB3 the 360 will still need the HTPC to transcode (most movies are mkv). Sorry if this has been explained before but I couldn't find it!
