Any interest in getting a stable Subsonic extension to Emby's API?
trifleneurotic posted a topic in General/Windows
Hello all! This form post is more to take the temperature of an Emby-related open source project that I haven't been updating very much due to just life getting in the way and an upcoming move, but I've been doing a lot more freelance coding lately, and I'd like to try another push to complete an MVP if there might be even a hint of interest. In short, my project aims to extend Emby's API with Subsonic-compatible endpoints to allow for various Subsonic-compatible clients to leverage it, thus diversifying the clients that one can use to interface with Emby for audio. However, for all intents and purposes, Subsonic seems like a dead project. It appears that the last version of the Subsonic server came out over four years ago, and although arguably the Subsonic API has become a de facto standard, it isn't being updated at all either. Still, even though Subsonic may be "dead", it doesn't mean that the API isn't stable, even it has been neglected :) I currently use Navidrome for local audio although I'd rather just use Emby for everything. That said, I've been quite pleased using Symfonium (Android platform) with Navidrome - Symfonium even supports Emby native APIs. But of course that is just me. This post is an attempt to gauge if there may even be a smidge of some interest in having a stable Subsonic extension to Emby's API. So if you have any opinion on the matter, I'd love to hear it. Many thanks! -
Hello all! I just wanted to give you guys and gals at Emby a hearty job well done! Just the other day, I finally let go of Subsonic and now Emby is my one-stop media center solution. For the most part, the main transition went pretty smoothly, I think for two reasons: required directory structure was similar, and pre-existing ID3v2 tags. However, I have noticed some odd behavior when I try caching an album onto my Android phone and then playing it back (specifically only playing the first song and that's it). But instant mixes seem to work great. Either way, the former is an issue for the Android forum. Artist bios were missing as well until I enabled TheAudioDB, but now I can only do bio refreshes one at a time (this exact issue is noted here). I've also noticed that when playing via BT-A in my car the album title sometimes gets mixed up with the artist. Subsonic was great at what it did and DSub for Android was great too, but it didn't make much sense to have both on the same box taking up resources. I chose to stick with Emby for a few reasons. Among them: -Great work being done. -Open source. (unlike Subsonic after 6.0) -Good documentation. -Responsive. Basically, I believe in you guys and gals, and in the project. I hope to make some code contributions too as I am a former software (now DevOps) engineer, mostly C# and bedrock Web stuff. I was a former Plex user but I love the power Emby gives you especially to customize data. My general view back in the day was that Subsonic was great with music and Emby with movies. It was high time I explored more of Emby's capabilities. And it hasn't disappointed. Well done everybody. And long live Emby!

I'm coming from a premium Subsonic user and now a supporter of Emby. I like Emby and have been getting to understand it better over the last couple of weeks. One thing that Subsonic was able to do is run in Jukebox mode which was great, you could setup a playlist and then decide to play that music on the device or in Jukebox mode. Jukebox mode would play the music on the server which had its line out to a whole house amp. It seems that something like this might be available with Emby through the little cast icon in the top right of the window but I'm having no luck getting that to work. Hopefully this a feature that is currently supported and I just don't understand how to use/enable it. Any advice would be appreciated.
