  1. Hello Devs, hope all is well with you. I have an issue where (most of the time) I have to go to Favorites and then back to the home screen for it to refresh, or I have to hold the back button down while on an episode or movie's page to force it return home and refresh. Is this by design? Can the design be changed so that it refreshes every time we access the home page, or refreshes the homepage in the background every time we stop watching media? IMO, it's not user-friendly to force users to update the home page to see accurate data. Thank you for all the work and attention you put into this product. It will be a very sad for me if it ever goes away!
  2. When I select the option to use External player a pop message appears saying "No Player, it doesn't appear you have a video capable app installed. This option requires you to install a 3rd party app for playing video content." Well I have VLC installed, and MX player. What am I missing here? When I sideload the Android Mobile version of this app then the option to choose VLC is available, but not in the Android TV client. Is this a bug? Same thing happens on Sony TV and two generations of Nvidia Shield.
  3. Preamble / Background: I have a ton of Audiobooks, mostly Audible, but some not. But None of my options are any good at organizing them, and having them on multiple platforms is a nuisance, as is not being able to stream them from my media server. So - I tried making an "Audiobook" Library, but that was a big sea of files (or folders) and the audiobooks had the metadata fields of a song and I couldn't structure my collections into series, all of which was really not great. In a Stroke of 'What If' - I thought - "Maybe I can import them all as a TV Series instead?" So I tried it. I renamed the m4a files to mp4. And then I tested it on web. And it worked perfectly. ff/rw/pause/resume/continue. And then I tested it on Mobile. And it worked perfectly there as well. I know it's kind-of off-label , but Audiobooks-As-TV-Series is perfect interface-wise. I made the audiobook into a 'season' within the overall series, and that let me have individually sectioned chapters (as episodes), and jump between them easily. I also tried converting the same audiobook to a single m4a/mp4 with 'chapters' and Emby detects those correctly as well - though only accessible on Web, no mobile. If you could access the chapters on Android when opening it as a TV-Show, all-in-one, All-In one would be ideal, organizationally - but I can manage with many short episodes instead - that's not the reason for this thread. https://scontent-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/v/t1.15752-9/288765161_868742904085050_4858505779076026758_n.png?_nc_cat=110&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=ae9488&_nc_ohc=BVfNNBZabnQAX9cbNly&_nc_ht=scontent-lga3-1.xx&oh=03_AVIjvEAgPwfankfz-LOLbPy_tyjcgti5CyCiZanXT4_hLQ&oe=62F059D2 I mean - I had to populate the metadata myself, but that's not so hard. Mostly copy paste. And I've gotten pretty good at it at this point. It's a bit rough looking and only partly filled in, but it is a test. With this working - I would / will be able to neatly insert my "The Clone Wars" audiobooks (Ahsoka, and the Ventress novel) where they fit into "The Clone Wars", which would / will be ideal. -------------- The Problem: It does not work on the TV. The TV says "Too Many Errors, Giving Up", rather than playing the audio over a black screen with controls like I expected after seeing it work flawlessly on web and mobile. --------------- The Request / Bug Report / Whatever this is: I would really like it if the TV Client handled such files the same way mobile and web do, by playing the audio and not freaking out about the lack of a video track. Then I can import the rest of my audiobooks (many of which are Forgotten Realms Novels written by a dozen authors, that I would like to add to my media library in chronological order making up one giant forgotten realms "show" with like 50 "seasons" (that I own). I can manage without being able to use it on my TV, but being able to use it on my TV would be very helpful. ----------------- Aside: Feature Request Being able to access video chapters on mobile would be handy. ------------------ Thank you for your time.
  4. Hi everyone, My first post here so I'll try my best to include as much detail as possible. Here is my Lounge home theatre setup: Nvidia Shield (2019 Tube version) > LG TV (GX) > Sonos Arc (via HDMI 2.1 eARC) The Sonos Arc and LG GX are both new to me but one thing I didn't realise when I purchased the TV is it unfortunately doesn't support DTS in any format and neither did the Sonos Arc (until a recent update) so unfortunately my Shield needs to convert DTS (in all flavours) to DD5.1. But certain videos fail to play properly. They show green screen with artefacts and stuttering and isn't watchable, however the sound is fine. I can see on the server that it is transcoding the audio as expected and the server doesn't seem to be under huge load. Server is Ryzen 5 3600, 32GB RAM and SSD as boot and transcode drive with GTX 1660S for hardware acceleration. It can happily transcode and convert HDR to SDR (on my bedroom TV) so audio shouldn't be a problem if it can do this (pretty heavy!) task. I know that there is an Emby app for the LG TV and one of the troublesome videos does appear to play as expected with converted audio so I do think the issue is the Nvidia Shield. This is the only other supported player I have that can test all the various things such as Dolby Atmos with the Arc other than the Shield. However, the Shield goes into a HDMI Matrix which goes to 3 other TVs around my house so I don't want to stop using this but am happy to upgrade to the Shield Pro if it'll make a difference. Has anyone else had the same issue with their Shield or can offer anything else to try. Happy to suggestions but please don't say ditch the Shield for built in apps as its required for other areas around the home via the HDMI Matrix. NOTE: converting DTS (all flavours) to Stereo doesn't seem to affect the video. Just when converting to DD5.1. Thanks, Mike
  5. During the setup of the client I selected to use direct paths. After the synchronization it defaults to web streaming. If I look into the settings the direct path option is greyed out. I have the problem with the native Emby client and also with Kodi (via Emby for kodi). My Synology NAS doesn't have a powerfull CPU (DS414), so I used direct path as I think the NFS server is built-in and it would require less CPU then the webstreaming. Secondly, where I live, the movies are not dubbed and we are heavy users of subtitles. That is the reason why I also use Kodi. Kodi has more features to download another subtitle when the current one is not correct. I know that Emby made some good progress in this direction but Kodi still offers more choices. By using direct paths, it shows the full path and filename. webstreaming shows only the user-friendly name (and a URL). It is very difficult to match the subtitle to the movie within the full filename. This worked great in the past. There were some issues with the built for the Synology DS414 and I had to uninstall and reinstall it a few times. During the uninstallation all my settings were lost and I had to start over again. I know I should have taken a backup, but it was already to late. I started with a clean installation. I also purchased a lifetime subscription. I never hit the issue that I need to unlock the application. But you guys gave me great support with the builds for the DS414, so I decided to purchase a lifetime subscription. I have the issue on a Nvidia Shield and a Google TV (2020). Both are running Android TV. I have an old PC laying around and I installed Ubuntu on it. This PC has also this problem. Any idea how to get back to direct path?
  6. Hello Emby Community, I have a problem with playing video files with digital surround sound on the emby app. My setup: Shield TV pro (8.1.1) Denon AVR-X2300W Sony TV Epson Beamer all connected with HDMI Emby Server 4.3.1.0 Emby App 1.7.78g I tried with files from https://thedigitaltheater.com/dolby-trailers/ (City Redux (Lossless) MKV H.264 1080p Dolby TrueHD 7.1) but it's the same as with all my other movie files... The video plays but there is no digital surround sound, my AVR reports 2-channel input and you only hear sound from the 2 front speakers... playing the same file with Kodi on the Shield TV is working fine and i get TrueHD, DTS:X or whatever the video has as input on the AVR and sound is on all speakers... When playing the video, the overview on the server says it's direct playing on the Shield TV. On the nerds info while playing the video it says: Audio-Codec: TRUEHD (local downmix) I guess there is the problem, but i have no idea what causes this - and I want to repeat with Kodi i can passthrough the sound to my AVR - it seems the emby app does not recognize my Shield TV / AVR setup correctly... there is no passthrough settings anywhere in the emby app settings...i only found the audio output and that is on "automatic" I choose passthrough on all the surround formats in the Shield TVs audio settings page - working with Kodi... I sent a report from the emby app at 22:54 (german time) on the 02.03.2020 the emby user was MCWZ and i was just playing that video again - several times to get the screenshots... Edit (forgot to mention when opening the topic): cleared data... cleared cache... powercycle the Shield with AVR already on... reinstalled the app... nothing works I'm working for some weeks on this issue now and can't get it to work. I'm stuck.... please have a look at it, maybe I oversee some point... I was looking at the forums and couldn't find any other helpful topic's or other user reporting this... most other users have a not DTS capable system or the file was just not DTS-HD but they thought it would be... I appreciate your help and many thanks in advance for any help you are able to provide Racerx1977 Question offtopic: Does clearing the cache of the emby app, clear all the logs? embyserver.txt
  7. Recently my Shield TV Emby Home Screen stopped updating and is stuck in the same 2 shows. Not to be confused with Play Next, I use the "Next Up TV" channel under the available Emby Channels ( Live TV, Next Up TV, Suggested For ). I am not sure if I changed anything that would cause this function to stop.
  8. I would like to be able to disable the chapter placeholders on my Shield TV. I have not enabled chapter thumbnails in either my TV or Movie libraries and when I look at a film or episode (before playing), on the server (windows), a windows desktop, tv (Samsung smart tv) or my phone (android) I just see Movie Info Episode Info Cast & Crew More from season ... More Like This Cast & Crew Media Info Media Info However in Emby for Android TV I also have a block of Chapter placeholders - can I / how do I remove these from the film/episode screens?
  9. Hey emby family I'm making transiton from plex to emby...in the same way I moved from stock android TV (ShieldTV)firmware to custom lineage OS due to numerous issues in stock firmwares. Emby server works perfect on shield TV; I'm able to stream on other android devices well. However, on the main shield device (host) the emby apps dont work. Regular emby app won't launch and emby for android tv gets stuck in a black screen after logging in. The video in link below shows the situation; logs are also attached. Any help will be heartily appreciated (tired of plex lol). https://mega.nz/#!4VcTxAgb!zvnfWhYeLMgCVg7zYl9WM-AAZb7OtkmrRDzI8UBkjMc embylogs.txt cheers!

    Shield TV Navigation Issue

Using the latest betas for Windows and android. I have a TON of HUGE 4K HDR sports files that I skip forward thru to view highlights and such but every time I do there's a pause, sometimes up to 3 seconds before playback resumes. I hate keeping Plex around but the issue doesn't exist with it. I hope there's an answer.
  12. Hi gurus, I have the following situation: Emby server on shield 2015 version emby server 4.2.1.0 does not play files when these need transcoding of dvdsub subtitles (vlc displays codec as SPU (i.e. pictures). works fine with srt and mov_text. Disabling hardware transcoding doesn't help nore does subtitle extraction. logs attached of situation with hardware transcoding on. Thanks guys! edit: problems exists both on shield emby client 1.7.43g and webbrowser (opera and safari) embyserver.txt ffmpeg-transcode-4628573d-ee69-4e82-9a04-d68d631ddb43_1.txt
  13. I've been using Emby for a month now and am almost ready to switch completely from Plex...almost. I was skipping forward thru a show with Emby and it kept locking up every few seconds and I'd have to wait to continue. So I opened the same video in Plex and navigation was smooth as silk, no lock ups or freezing at all. What can I do?
  14. Hi, I run a synology NAS (DS1817+) with an external VPN Network connection set on the unit and local IP which to date of update has worked flawlessly. Nice update otherwise, thank you .NET core update using less CPU time now. Until upgrade to the recent synology build the local network which uses 10.0.0.0 ect and still does connected to the Emby server on the NAS and used this range of IP. After upgrade with the VPN on the Emby server picks up the VPN IP which is wrong and fails to connect. Manual entry of the correct IP in the emby app for the server does not work. The only solution in my ignorance is to turn off the VPN connection and then emby will connect from the shield TV I will add that the issue does not occur when using a mobile app or Mac or PC which strangely defaults to the VPN ip and this issue therefore only occurs when using the Nividea Shield TV, it seems the emby app is now looking at the VPN as default rather than the local IP range set on the network and NAS. No other related apps have this issue. It also when the VPN is enabled allows Emby conection as explained and shown in the images via the local Lan using the VPN IP as the server and guess it makes sense other than the shield TV does not now like the setup and refuses connection. Ideas suggestion and help please as I am now lost and prefer to use the external VPN for other NAS applications if possible but retain use of the shield TV, is this a bug with the shield TV app? Many thanks.
  15. I'm running an Emby server on a Shield TV Pro with Emby Premium. I'm trying to setup a recording of a series ("Bull") but am running into difficulties. I had it scheduled and wanted to make a change but now I just get a looping circle and can't change or delete the program. It's a little hard to see in the screenshot. Emby version is Version 4.0.2.0. My impression is some sort of database corruption but not sure how I can tell or troubleshoot.
  16. Hello. I've been having a time getting Live TV to work properly with my new Shield TV (2017) client. It appears no matter what I select in the Application, it changes to transcoding. My setup consists of an i5 server running Emby as a service (Version 3.2.32.0). I have 2 legacy HDHomeRun tuners, one HDHR-US and one HDHR3-US, with update to date firmware (20170815). All are connected via 1GB Ethernet on the same subnet. The Shield TV is connected to a Denon 3808ci receiver over HDMI. In the App, I have Direct Play Live TV selected. When viewing from the Dashboard on the server, I see an attempt to Direct Play, but it then changes over to transcoding before displaying anything on the TV. I read the Wiki page on Transcoding to ensure I wasn't missing anything. I also reviewed the Android TV Wiki page. I changed the Max bit rate from auto to 100 Mb/s on the Shield to make sure it was not being limited there. I reviewed the server logs and see why it is transcoding, but I am not sure the reason behind the decision. The Server log reports TranscodeReasons=VideoCodecNotSupported,AudioCodecNotSupported. From what I've read, the Shield TV supports MPEG2 and AC3. The Transcoding log shows it converting the MPEG2 to h264 and the AC3 448 kb/s to AC3 192 kb/s. This is using the default ffmpeg from a fresh install of Emby. Stream #0:0[0x61]: Video: mpeg2video (Main) ([2][0][0][0] / 0x0002), yuv420p(tv, bottom first), 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], Closed Captions, 59.94 fps, 59.94 tbr, 90k tbn, 119.88 tbc Stream #0:1[0x64](eng): Audio: ac3 (AC-3 / 0x332D4341), 48000 Hz, 5.1(side), fltp, 448 kb/s Stream #0:2[0x69](spa): Audio: ac3 (AC-3 / 0x332D4341), 48000 Hz, mono, fltp, 96 kb/s Stream mapping: Stream #0:0 -> #0:0 (mpeg2video (native) -> h264 (h264_nvenc)) Stream #0:1 -> #0:1 (ac3 (native) -> ac3 (native)) Output #0, segment, to 'C:\Users\Craig\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\transcoding-temp\e18931ed84ca26a2e3f13474526754b0%d.ts': Metadata: encoder : Lavf57.66.103 Stream #0:0: Video: h264 (h264_nvenc) (High), yuv420p, 1280x720 [SAR 1:1 DAR 16:9], q=-1--1, 5000 kb/s, 59.94 fps, 90k tbn, 59.94 tbc Metadata: encoder : Lavc57.82.102 h264_nvenc Side data: cpb: bitrate max/min/avg: 5000000/0/5000000 buffer size: 10000000 vbv_delay: -1 Stream #0:1: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, 5.1, fltp, 192 kb/s I enabled debugging and sent a report via the app last night (Time: 8:37PM ET, User: Craig, Program: hdhr_64.1). Server and transcoding logs attached here. This is the second server I have tried to get working, so I assume its something on the Android TV side I'm missing or with the tuners themselves. I notice there is no System Profile for Android TV or Shield TV under DNLA, so not sure if that's the reason? Any direction would be appreciated. Thank you LiveTV Forced Transcode.zip
  17. It kind of sucks that this "recommendations row" can't be outright hidden but the fact it can't and the fact that Emby can use it, I think I see an opportunity. My understanding is that Emby can't give recommendations unless it has a user logged in. For personal SHIELDs, this isn't a problem but in a multi-user situation, no user is logged in by default so no recommendations are shown initially. Suggestion: If Emby for Android TV has no user logged in and therefore has no recommendations to offer, use a guest account and offer the Live TV channels as recommendations. If they back out of the Live TV channel they tuned to, give them the channel guide. If they back out of that, close Emby (assumption being they're not watching any more or a user is going to log in). Think a cable box or satellite receiver system...try to mimic that with "recommendations" being the portal to it. I could see regular users using this too due to simplicity. For example, a lot of people like turning on the news at certain times of the day. That's something that's really only viewed live and once it is over, they turn it off. Showing the news channel in recommendations would as closely mimic tuning to the TV channel normally with the added benefit of being able to pause it. I really hope this idea can be implemented. I think a lot of users I deal with (myself included) would really appreciate it.
  18. Hey, I have read several threads, but I'm still trying to understand why I have the issues I do with streaming h264 video with HD audio in an mkv container. My server: A6-based lxc container with lots of BR Rips (mux to mkv, so they're >30GB), but I have issues with typical 10GB h264/mkv files as well. My issue is streaming to the Shield TV and I think it's caused by the audio format. What is puzzling is that either my system is so slow that just transcoding the audio brings it to its knees (avg 17 fps, so it's unwatchable), or emby is transcoding the entire video stream when it only needs to transcode the audio. Transcode Log to Shield TV Emby App (Beta) I even tried VLC on the shield through DLNA, and it did the same thing, pegged the CPU at 100% and was unwatchable. According to the VLC DLNA parameters it should announce that it can play anything, but that's obviously not what happened. The transcode log from this doesn't seem to announce the player's capabilities like the Emby App did: Transcode Log to VLC DLNA I get that bitstreaming doesn't work correctly, but it should be a relatively light load to transcode these audio streams. I am struggling to decode these logs, but it appears that it's transcoding the entire video stream vice just audio. Thanks
  19. Hi at Emby, first of all, great product, very happy with it. And it gets better from release to release I have the following problem. I am recording Star Trek Next generation. A tv show that is aired at 4:3 not 16:9 Format is .ts Some of the videos are ok. When I start Some of them from the beginning they are flickering and stretch and squeeze very quickly. It seems that emby tries to stretch them to 16:9 and quickly falls back to 4:3. Wenn I pause them a use the chapter navigation everything works fine. Any Idea? Best Michael
