Hello I manage to add a public, so not password protected share of a samba server as a library folder, which seems to work just fine. \\servers-hostname-or-address\sharename It took me a while to figure out that I really have to use windows style network share annotation BTW, despite anything here is Unix-ish, including the docker host and the Emby docker image.. so smb:// is simply not understood... Perhaps It would be great the documentation mentioned that somehow. If told where I'd not hesitate to contribute that tiny little However, I'd like my Emby Server to store metadata as NFO, and thumbnails along with my media files. So that obviously requires write access. For obvious reasons I'd not like to share my media file directories writeable without any password protection at all. So how would I enter the URL with username and password? Or does Emby even offer a better way to identify itself to a windows like samba server? I don't have any active directory or anything. It is really the dumbest and least advanced version of a samba config I could manage to get a modern samba version to agree on running with. TIA for any hints. Casaper PS: Currently I have that working but quirky and not ideally as SMB-Shares mounted natively to the docker host system and then linked to emby server with additional volumes.

Emby is not seeing the network shares, when I go to add media it shows the local drives and networking (networking is blank) but if I try to use IP or network name the info is blank, I can access the shares from windows. Details: So I had emby setup and working for about a month or 2, all the media added and accessible, went and finally paid for the lifetime subscription and went to go log in and so some test, when I couldn't see any media, Started troubleshooting, found out that if I tried to add new media or modify the existing, that emby could not see the network essentially. Tried adding drive as mapped networking drive, ensured I could see the network shares, checked permissions for username ( which has full writes to the drives) checked networking settings across the board. I even went as far as to completely wipe it and re-install fresh, and tried it on a different pc and the pc that has the data, still cant see the network path. I work in IT tier2/tier3 so I know my way around and how to troubleshoot, but this issue has me perplexed. Error is "There was an error adding the media path. Please ensure the path is valid and the Emby Server process has access to that location." when adding media to the library.

UNC - "Universal Naming Convention" is the recommended network share type for the new Media Browser 3 server. I will explain it step by step in this thread by creating a new folder and sharing it, then add the folder share to the MB3 server. First go to one of your media folders, right click and choose: Properties. In this example I will be using a folder named: MB3ShareUNC_Example Now click on the "Share" tab - then "Advanced Sharing". Enable the option "share this folder". Best to leave the share name as it is for easy remembering, now before you click on "Permissions", this share in your network will be seen to everyone when browsing by the explorer. If you are okay with that, then just click "Apply" then "Permissions". If not, and you want to make it "Hidden" then simply add "$" to the end of share name, as in my example. The share name will be "MB3ShareUNC_Example$". Click on "Apply" then "Permissions". Now we will see the group "Everyone" has "Read" permissions only,. Let's keep it this way, and let's add the Windows user account that the MB3 server is (or will be) installed with. If you do not use domain as part for your network, then main location as it is for that user, simply type some part of the user name then click on "Check Names", then add that user by clicking on "OK" If your computer is part of a domain "Active Directory" then click on "Locations" and chose the AD path and click on "OK" then as always, type part of the user name then click on "Check Names" and chose your user name, then "OK" Now let give our admin full control (Read/Write) of that share folder: Then click on "Apply" then "OK" then "Close" to close this. Your folder is now shared.
