Hi I am using Emby on an iPhone 14 Pro Max and when I play any 4K HEVC or HDR files the colours look very off and way more green then they should. I have included comparison images. The first image (0604) is a 4K HDR file on Emby and the second image (0605) is through Infuse Player and also reflects how the stock IOS video player handles HDR colours. Are there any settings I can change to make the colours look accurate? I only have this problem on my iPhone, all my other devices including an android tablet, Windows PC and LG TV all show the colours perfectly. Hope someone can help! Thanks

I want to pay you to get HDR playback fixed in Emby on the Apple TV 4K
stephen_hill posted a topic in Apple TV
Dear Developers I have now decided that I willing to pay to get this bug/feature prioritized. Because my alternative is to pay for Infuse, and I'd rather give you the money. How can I take this forward? Is there anyone else who would be willing to donate to get this issue prioritized and fixed? Many Thanks Stephen- 6 replies

Hi guys, I have just bought the EMBY premiere and am very excited to utilize the emby theater for windows (both desktop version or the Microsoft store version are tried). I have triggered the HDR button in the Windows settings-display (Windows 11). For hardware, my GPU is RTX4090, my CPU is i9-13900k, and my monitor is ROG Swift OLED PG32UCDM which is officially announced to support HDR10/Dolby Vision display. I don't use transcoding because my NAS is Synology DS923+ which doesn't even have GPU, so I have disabled such function, which means all the video streaming is "direct play", which has been illustrated in the status nerds tested before. All these are the preconditions. What I want to ask, just as the title said, is that can the Emby Theater for windows correctly play HDR content based on these conditions? The HDR includes all the HDR format, HDR10, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, etc., depending on what the video naturally is. What the "correctly" mean is that color is correct in HDR format (I remember is BT2020 for HDR10 or anything else), instead of auto tone-mapping to another format like SDR format (Because I see the feature provided by Emby premiere: HDR Tone Mapping When Transcoding ). Such a feature is absolutely important because we could realize HDR content playback on platforms that do not support HDR display normally by mapping the color space, that is what I understand. If the answer is "yes", I could be relieved to use the default and matched emby app to play back all the 4k Blu-ray disc with very high quality (BDMV, bluray folder or iso) stored in my NAS/ Emby server, instead of using external players like potplayer. You know, it feels tedious and not very good. So anyway, could anyone tell me about the questions above? I am afraid it could be a little bit messy because answers may be different for different HDR formats, like HDR10 and Dolby Vision. I appreciate any of your patience and help!

First I want to start this out with I am a long time Plex user (Plexpass lifetime) now turned Plex refugee, the latest changes they are making is the last straw on the camels back for me. So I have turned to Emby for my media hosting needs. I have been running them side by side (Unraid Docker) for about a week now and only have a few issues and questions before I pull the trigger and buy Emby Premiere Lifetime and drop Plex all together. At first glance Emby seems great, really love the simple and clean UI with just my media and nothing else is huge for me but I did run into a bigger issue that is causing me hesitation to fully switch so I just wanted to ask the community if it was just me or if Emby just doesn't support it. I have tried looking googling, looking through the wiki and the forums for an answer but can't find a solution. #1. Issue: I have the latest Gen Apple TV 4K running the native Emby app and having issue playing content in HDR / DV, now let me be clear the content does play but it is not sending the signal to my TV (LG C2 OLED) to switch to either DV or HDR depending on the content (I have it by default in standard range for just normal use / browsing / TV Shows). I am using the latest version of Emby server (4.8.1.0) on Unraid docker. Now I know this should / can work because it does work with the Plex app with all the same devices and same content files as well as I have tried it with infuse and it works as well. I really like the UI of the native Emby app (the library viewing options which infuse doesn't have) so I would prefer I get it sent up correctly in that app. If it doesn't support it all together then I will have to use the infuse app because almost all my movies are in DV or HDR but I would really prefer to not have to jump between two apps depending on the content I am watching. #2. Smaller questions I have (probably a setting or option I have missed) is it possible to hide the Folder view under movies and tv show library and same goes with episode view in Tv shows libraries I have a latest TV shows list on my home screen and can't find an option to have it at an episode level rather than a show level, so I would see what is the latest tv episode added but do not group them together unless a whole season is added at once. This is how plex's recently added tv show works by default TLDR: switching to Emby from Plex and have issues playing HDR and DV content on Apple TV OS using native Emby app, it does not switch the color range of the TV based on the content playing.

Hi, is there any way to transcode 4k movies with HDR and keep the 10bit colours for HDR? my friend is using an 65c9 oled it can play 4k movies without a problem as long as the bitrate is not higher as my upload. Some movies especialle with a lot of film grain exceed my upload limit by a lot. I have a ryzen 9 3900x without a graphicscard for transcoding so that should be enough for one 10 bit transcode (i dont know exactly if ffmpeg is able to transcode 10 bit h264 or if it needs h265, then i am willing to buy a entry level quadro card if nesessary) At the moment i am using handbrake rf 20 on all 4k movies. If Transcoding doesnt work an is not expected to work in the near future i have to reencode some movies in lower quality. I am using the official Emby Docker Container on an Unraid Server. Thanks for your help.

Setup: Ubuntu server running 4.7.13.0 (same issue with 4.7.12.0) Client is Emby for android TV 2.0.80g registered Hardwired gigabit network between server and client Issue: Playback of 4K HDR content buffers, was not the case in servers <=4.7.12.0 Server indicates "Reducing bitrate due to quality setting" and is transcoding. My rig can't handle transcoding. Expect: No transcoding, direct playback Tested: Forcing Max Streaming Bitrate in the client, Auto or maximum speed settings -> no change Set client connecting to http instead of https -> no change Basically all my HDR playback is broken at this moment. Please help me which log files to send to fix this issue Thanks

When I try to watch a UHD HDR channel. The picture freezes every 3-5 seconds. But it's not the channel, if I watch the channel directly via VLC it works without problems. Does anyone else have this problem?

Tone-mapping in transcoding HDR for playback on SDR screens??
griffindodd posted a topic in General/Windows
Loving EMBY!!!!!!!!! However, I have an issue with HDR files. I'd like to make my growing 4K HDR library available to my family (outside of my network) to stream, but they only have regular SDR screens so playing back HDR content on their screens looks washed out and hue shifted colors due to incorrect tone mapping. Does/or will Emby adjust tone-mapping during transcode from HDR to SDR (like MadVR does) when it sees that the display device is an SDR screen? Many thanks- 586 replies

Add configuration option to always transmit HLS without transcoding.
Fabian2101 posted a topic in General/Windows
I want to ask you, if you can please add a configuration option to force my Emby for Windows server to always use HLS streaming. At the moment my only way to force HLS streaming is to enable the "Convert Unsupported Audio" setting in the Android TV client. And I also have to have all the movie and series files with the default audio track with the E-AC3 or DTS codec. This way I force my Emby server to send HLS streams, instead of HTTP. The problem that with this method my Emby server also transcodes the E-AC3 or DTS audio track to AAC. If you add a configuration option in the Emby server to force the server to use HLS streaming, then it doesn't transcode the audio track unnecessarily. HLS transmission in my case solves the problem on my favorite and main television, the problem of constant jumps and jerks in the images. And since the latest version of the client for Android TV has become obsolete due to playback problems with DV and HDR10, and the client for Android 3.2.92 I don't have any option to force the HLS streaming. Thanks, greetings. -
Fixed problem in playback with DV and HDR10 in Android client 3.2.91
Fabian2101 posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
Fixed problem in playback with DV and HDR10 in Android client 3.2.91. ¡Please also fix client for Android TV! I want to notify you that the problem with playback, with the previously mentioned files of Netflix content, which contain DV and HDR10, in my case it is completely solved, the playback is direct and without any transcoding, but for the moment the solution It is in the client for Android tablets and smartphones with version 3.2.91. The successful test was carried out on my Philips 55OLED873 television with Android TV 8, on the Xiaomi Mi Box with Android TV 9. Unfortunately, the problem persists in the client for Android TV, and what I use the most is the client for Android TV, on my four television devices to watch movies and episodes of television series in HDR quality. I attach the screenshots, where you can see my Emby server, doing direct transmission with HTTP, without any transcoding: How long does it take, also to repair the client for Android TV? Will you issue a statement or notification to inform that the client for Android TV is also already fixed? Do you know what version number the client update for Android TV will have, when it's already shaved?- 5 replies

Add another internal player LibVLC in client for Android TV
Fabian2101 posted a topic in Feature Requests
I want to suggest you guys, please add LibVLC player as an alternative internal player to ExoPlayer. It's just a matter of adding a configuration option in the client for Android TV, in which I can choose between the different options ExoPlayer, or LibVLC, or an external player. An Emby competitor's Android TV client already has the configuration options ExoPlayer, or LibVLC, or automatic, or an external player. It is that if Emby's competitor already has two internal players, the official Emby clients would also have to have the internal LibVLC. Since the problem of playing MKV files, which contain Dolby Vision and HDR10, is unique to the Emby's ExoPlayer player, but if I had the option to choose LibVLC, right now I could play absolutely all my files that have DV and HDR10 with LibVLC, if you were as an internal player in the Emby client for Android TV. Although VLC a few years ago has problems with small jerks or jumps in the image when playing SRT text subtitle lines, I only use forced subtitles with a few lines of text in movies or TV series episodes. I leave you an attached image with the configuration options that should be added to the client for Android TV: Thanks. Greeting. -
Not sure if this is new but just noticed this in the quick-extract logs of the core: DOVI configuration record: version: 1.0, profile: 8, level: 7, rpu flag: 1, el flag: 0, bl flag: 1, compatibility id: 1 The core is also doing some progress apparently...

Green bar when decoding HEVC with QuickSync and Tone Mapping
PontusN posted a topic in General/Windows
Didn't think I would come a stir the pot in this thread again, but here we are. Is there a way to increase the saturation of a specific color during tone mapping? As you know Im using QSV to achieve this, and current best tone mapping is bt.2390, the results are very good, but it's currently only available in software. Hable is unfortunately crushing blacks to much to be usable. Reinhard and Mobius is performing quite well, but both suffer from desaturation to some degree, but mostly the reds. Is there a way to fix this with a search and replace in ffmpeg or something similar? Or is it possible to implement Aces algorithm? (Which I believe suffers from over saturation instead, but I think it's preferable.)- 22 replies

Hello! I just received my S7+ and immediately installed Emby on it. I tried to play a 4K HDR movie to test and colors are washed out. The same movie in 1080p (non-HDR) have correct colors. Is it a matter of adding this new device to some kind of list of supported devices (like Netflix does iirc) in the Emby app or in an underlying library, or is it a bigger issue? Thanks PS: playing the downloaded 4K HDR movie in VLC for Android shows the correct colors.

Hello, First of all, I would to apologize if I posted this topic at the wrong community, but as of right now the LG webOS app is the only place I can reproduce this type of files. Also English is not my first language, so I'll try my best to explain the situation. I have an old Windows laptop working as a NAS connected via ethernet to a router, to which my LG B9 is connected also using ethernet cable. I'm using the lastest Emby app on the TV and the server is up-to-date. I am having problems watching 4K HDR remux files stutter free. I tried tonight and it started fine but after a few minutes the stuttering appeared, and it persisted during the whole duration of the movie. I recorded a 20s clip that shows the problem three times. https://youtu.be/9abw44sVW24 It looks like a frame drop in a videogame, the picture freezes and the audio drops very quickly and then come back to normal. I tried to find a pattern, but it seemed random. This is not the first time it happened. The last time the stuttering was way more severe, hanging for seconds, so I ended up just playing the movie locally through USB. It looked more like buffering than stuttering. Could the bitrate be too high, even for ethernet? 1080p works great so far. I would appreciate any help. Best, embyserver.txt

420/5000 Hi! The problem is the following: (I watch H264 1080p mkv movies mostly with 5.1 Hungarian sound) At the same time, in the case of HDR x265 mkv files, blurring and pixel blurring can be experienced in the lower 15-25cm band of the TV screen. (2017 49 '' LGUJ701V 4k HDR tv, ARC = Delock High Speed HDMI cable Ethernet 3D 4K 2 m Slim High Quality, Denon X1600 AVR, Lenovo Legion Y520 notebook,) Thanks for the answers in advance too!

By now everyone is aware of HDR. But there are various versions of it. Here is a great article that simplifies and explains the differences. https://www.howtogeek.com/690215/hdr-formats-compared-hdr10-dolby-vision-hlg-and-technicolor/amp/ Also, the term 'fake HDR' is sometimes used. They have a great article that explains that, too. https://www.howtogeek.com/693428/what-is-fake-hdr-and-should-you-buy-hdr-blu-rays/amp/

Hello, I'm running into an issue where 4k HDR content is buffering on my Nvidia Shield, its all local content so its not taking it from the internet. The only thing i notice different is that some content is "direct playing" and the one that buffers is "Direct Streaming" both types of content appear to be the same, both are MKV. i will be spending most of my day tomorrow to try and figure out what could be causing these issues, so any help would be appreciated. for reference 1080p content plays perfectly with no issues at all. i have attached a couple of logs, but to be honest they don't really mean anything to me. Hoping someone can help. I recently bought a one month license for Emby to kick the tires on it as I am having issues with Plex on an Nvidia Shield when trying to play back UHD HDR content consistently. Of course I am having issues with Emby, too. My problem is that some of my UHD Blu Ray MKV files will play fine and HDR is recognized and properly displayed, other movies appear washed out and will NOT play properly with Emby. Here are two that will not and one that does. Can someone tell me if they see a reason why they would not? Aquaman - washed out HDR and app doesn't recognize the file type Saving Private Ryan - washed out HDR and app doesn't recognize the file type Infinity War - plays ok except for all green blockiness part way through the film. This also happens in Plex which means it must be an Nvidia Shield issue. The Plex app DOES properly play them, if it matters. EDIT - I wonder if it has to do with subtitles? I noticed that Infinity War does not have them but the others do. Is that throwing the Emby client for a loop? PrivateRyan.txt Infinity War.txt aquaman.txt

The Problem: HDR content can not properly be transcoded. This requires 2 copies of each file SDR & HDR. Client that require transcoding must manually select the SDR version. The Request: Emby supports multi-versions, add an option that forces the SDR version anytime a transcode request is made. Summary: This feature stays relevant even after HDR tone mapping for transcodes is released. The superior image quality option is to never transcode HDR content. I still suggest this is a admin library option, there will be admins who would not want this behavior.
