  1. I have 4 accounts on my Emby server, which runs on a separate Raspberry Pi than any of the clients. My account is the administrator and has most privileges. I have an account for my parents, my sister, and my nephew and niece that are users only, so I don't want them to change settings in the server. When I log in via Emby for Kodi, My account was able to add permanent users, but the other 3 couldn't. Clicking on Permanent Users did not display the popup for them. After playing with settings in the server, I was able to get the popup and add Permanent Users only after I enabled "Allow this user to manage the server" on all accounts. I want make my sister's account a permanent user on her children's account, so movies she watches with them will be marked as watched on her account. This behavior is consistent on three different devices that are running Kodi (2 Raspberry Pi and 1 Windows 10). I already had a Kodi profile to show my watched status, but share that through Permanent Users to my parent's account when we watch together, but it worked because my account already had "Allow this user to manage the server" enabled. Why is "Allow this user to manage the server" required for an Emby For Kodi user to add a Permanent User?
  2. Hi guys, im fairly new to Emby and so far have had a great experience! I'm running Emby for Kodi on both of my Shield TV devices (Kodi 18.6) and everything is working brilliantly, I am just wondering if there is a way to enable the poster wall viewmode for collections in the addon? I only have the options for Square, Large Sqaure or Info Wall, I'm only asking because I prefer the collections that Emby offers compared to the Kodi Sets, as it allows the same movie to be included in multiple collections. I'm using the kodi skin Aura so can customise the home menu to make a widget to shortcut me to Emby's Collections instead of Kodi Sets and it would be great if i could have it display my collections in the same viewmode i use throughout Appreciate any help, thanks, Ryan
  3. Hey guys, first of all: Emby for Kodi is the reason why i came to emby. Great app, much appreciated. @@Angelblue05 @@sualfred I'm still testing a lot of stuff but i found some errors in my kodi.log. Every five seconds it gives me a never ending loop of these: NOTICE: EMBY.entrypoint.service -> [ onNotification/plugin.video.emby/WebSocketRestarting ] NOTICE: Emby.emby.core.ws_client -> ERROR:: Handshake Status 503 Debug logging within emby for kodi will add these two lines: NOTICE: EMBY.helper.utils -> DEBUG:: ---[ event: plugin.video.emby/WebSocketRestarting ] "[{}]" NOTICE: EMBY.entrypoint.service -> DEBUG:: [ plugin.video.emby: WebSocketRestarting ] {} The http error code 503 comes from my haproxy, which does SNI and SSL-offloading (e.g. by emby.domain.com) on port 443 and will return a 503, if you use none or a non existent hostname in your request. Making emby server and emby.domain.com my the default (fallback), the websocket will work with haproxy. For obvious reasons i don't want to use my emby server as 'default backend' on any request on port 443. Haproxy logs show, that the request is: "GET /embywebsocket?api_key=<removed>&device_id=<removed> HTTP/1.1" (See update at the end) Unfortunately i could not figure a way to make haproxy or emby for kodi show me the whole request with the hostname, so one can only guess, that is might not be the hostname but maybe only the ip address? While searching about this, i only found this locked topic, from which i didn't get any helping hints. I understand there was a fix in the websockets request in 2017 which added a slash before the 'embywebsocket': https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/50062-web-sockets-and-reverse-proxy/ Since i can see the get request with the leading slash, i figure this can't be the reason for the 503. Of cause i'd like to rule out a configuration error on the haproxy side. Since streaming and database updates seem to work as long with the workaround using emby server as default backend for SNI, in my opinion this has to be a websocket request specific problem. So my first question would be: Does anybody have this working with reverse proxy and SNI (without emby as default backend)? On the other hand i'm not sure what the websocket is used for. I figured it might be the 'send message' feature from server to client or the 'inform about new content' over 'server is restarting' and so on. Which features depend on a websocket to the emby server? Is it 'required'? I'd also like to look further into this, but i can't seem to find the full websocket request in any log. Is there a way to see the whole request somewhere in emby for kodi? I'm running: - emby for kodi 4.1.19 - Libreelec 9.2.2 with Kodi 18.6 - Emby server Thanks for your help or hints in advance. Steve UPDATE: I figured how to make haproxy capture the sent host headers from the http request and log them. The problems seems to be that an additonal colon from the appending port remains inside the host header (e.g. emby.domain.com: ). This seems to be the reason why haproxy can't find the hostname. Is this a bug inside Kodi for Emby? I use 'manual server' with 'https://emby.domain.com:443'.This still only happens with the websockets request. Can someone tell, how this request does handle the host header differently from the other requests? SOLUTION: Emby for Kodi does SNI correctly. It turned out i had my haproxy configuration wrong. It was redirecting to emby server based on the host header within the http request, but it should have redirected by the SNI within the tcp request. I set it to sni and now it works perfect. Thanks for pointing me back to the haproxy logs and sorry for wasting your time @@Luke.
  4. Hi Guys, It took me a while to figure this out for myself and there are tons of threads stating that it's not possible, so I wanted to post this very, very easy solution to display Movie Extras within Kodi, while also using Emby for Kodi as your backend. 1. Setup your Emby library in Kodi using Direct Play (this doesn't currently work with playback via Add-On) 2. Install the following Official Kodi Add On: https://kodi.wiki/view/Add-on:Extras 3. Add a subfolder to your movie directory called Extras... IE /path/to/movies/moviename/extras 4. Locate the movie within Kodi and then, using the Context Menu, click on Extras which will bring up a list of all your movie Extras - If you prefer to change the name of the directory that the addon looks for, IE from Extras to "Bonus Features" you can do that from within the Add On The Extras then display within the Movie Info screen of Kodi. I don't believe you can use NFO files to customize the content, but the video files themselves all show
  5. Hi, Not sure if this feature already exists but would appreciate any input. I wonder if there is a way I can have emby for Kodi autoplay (perhaps select highest quality) a video when there a multiple versions available? Cheers, Ryan
  6. Hi, I'd love some help please with a frustrating playback issue that suddenly emerged on my Nvidia Shield running Emby for Kodi (native/direct paths). Native/direct sync works. Kodi very briefly shows "Working..." when I press play, then goes back to the menu, all within half a second. My quick and highly uneducated look at the log file showed some errors around demuxing, but I don't know if that's significant. Recent changes to server I imagine it's relevant to point out I've recently upgraded my OS X version on my server machine, and also tinkered with its static IP address (but I ended up returning the address to what it was before the issue) - see below for more details. I'm sorry, I realsie it would be very helpful to be clear when the behaviour started in relation to both of those changes, but I cannot be sure which of those was responsible. Native vs Dynamic The playback error only seems to happen in my preferred native/direct path configuration, so that's a pretty good hint that it's a path/network issue I guess (I'm no IT expert). If I go through the emby for kodi app and select folders with (dynamic) written next to them they work ok, but I'd love to get the snappier native playback working again. Issue on: The playback issue is only encountered on my Nvidia Shield P2897 box, which I use Emby for Kodi (4.0.5) add-on on Kodi 18.4 (native/direct paths setup). Unaffected - these stream fine When I run Emby on my Android phone (galaxy s10e) I can access and stream videos on the server fine via Emby and VLC on the phone, but I guess they use the dynamic playback mode as well. Server My Emby Server ( is running on a late 2014 iMac, which I recently updated to OS X Catalina (10.15.1). I'm sorry I cannot be specific with times, but the Kodi issues started around this time, and I saw a post about clicking on and off the sharing on the mac to get things running again, and I've done that. As mentioned above, I also changed the IP address of the server for a brief period, as my phone was taking the same IP address, but I then moved my mac back to it's original IP when I worked out how to set a static IP for my phone to stop them clashing. The server's IP is now back to the same value it was when it worked, which is the same as that in the "Shared Network Folder" in the library, and I've done Emby for Kodi database resets and resyncs to be sure the Shield has the right IP paths, but to no avail. The log is available here - I'd value the interpretations of a skilled user (scroll to 2019-11-18 at 19:16 to 19:17).

    Emby for Kodi: parental control

Hi I am wondering if there is a way to use Emby for Kodi so that the parental control feature is active but does not require the user to enter the Emby settings to change the user from child to adult? I use Kodi with Emby server as I use on multiple Rasberry Pi devices (Librelec) but also wish to enable parental controls. If this is not available then I wonder whether it could be a feature request? I was using PinSentry but this was not ideal and it no longer works ... so I am in need to a simple solution. Thanks in advance
  8. Howdy people! Using Kodi on an Android TV, Emby serving stuff from a docker container runing on an Unraid server. Kodi ver. 18.0, Emby server, Emby for Kodi 4.0.5.; manual login on server (no passwords, only usernames), no EmbyCon. Ever since Kodi got updated to 18.0, I'm unable to add user(s) to session in Emby for Kodi menu. When I select the option, most of the time nothing happens, rarely a "spining circle" appears for a second or two but nothing after. If I restart Emby for Kodi (from the same menu) after selecting the "add user..." option - the window for selecting the user to add appears just as the "restart option" is selected, but no users appear listed there. The user selection from Kodi login appears to work fine (the watched/started etc shows/movies are set correctly for each user) but the addition doesn't work. Haven't seen anyone complaining about that, so it's either a rarely used function or I'm the only one who uses it and has problems with it. Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance.
  9. TVTunes music and video themes don't seem to be working correctly. Hitting sync theme media in the emby addon gives a success message after about 10-15 seconds, but neither video backdrops nor music themes are playing at all for movies or tv shows. My local trailers do not play either with that option enabled in TVTunes. Backdrops WILL play if I use native paths, but in order to use Cinema mode I have to use add-on paths. Play video in background is enabled. I use Arctic:Zephyr and Aura skins primarily. In the path /storage/.kodi/userdata/addon_data/plugin.video.emby/library/ MOVIE folders containing tvtunes.nfo have been created- but nothing in regard to tv shows at all. Server Addon 4.0.5 Shield Android TV Kodi - Leia After addon updated to 4.0.5 I tried to repair libraries and re-sync theme media, still no love. @@Angelblue05 any idea what might be causing this?
  10. Hello, for some reason I have to stay with Emby for Kodi 2.3.63. Currently I'm using it with Emby Server 3.5.3 and Kodi Companion 2.0.3. I'd like upgrade to Emby Server 4.0, but I read that after the upgrade will be necessary to update also the Plugins. My question is: after the upgrade, the compatibility with Emby for Kodi 2.3.63, will be preserved ?

    Movie set issue

Hi, I have an issue with movie sets not being syncronized from the Emby server to Kodi. I am using Emby server with Kodi companion and Auto Box Sets On Kodi side I have 3 clients: 2x Kodi 17.6 with Emby for Kodi 3.0.34 and Kodi 18.0-RC2 with Emby for Kodi 3.1.35a. On each of the clients I am missing the majority of my movie sets, means that some sets are there but most of the ones that are shown directly on the Emby server are not. I had the feeling, that sets appear after I clicked on them on the server (via browser) but that is also not always the case. On the two clients with Emby for Kodi 3.0.34 another strange thing happens: When I hit the button "Update Sets" in the plugin, all the movie sets that were there before are gone. I really need the movie sets to be working, since I have about 450 of them... What can I do? Sven
  12. Hi - not sure if this is an Emby for Kodi bug, Embuary bug, or EmbyCon bug, but I noticed something strange today while navigating my library. I have a home videos & photos library set up on my server for some downloaded youtube videos for offline playback. I use embuary on Kodi RC2, and when I navigate to the home videos library shortcut on my homescreen going through emby for kodi, when viewing the videos in the 'wide' view, all of the video thumbnails show the the xxxx-landscape.jpg for each video (which is a generic file I put into each folder for each video, and isn't a thumb of the actual video), instead of the xxxx-poster.jpg for each video (which is a thumbnail of each individual video, and is auto-generated by the emby server). However, when I navigate to the the same library shortcut on my homescreen, but this time go through embycon, the video thumbnails all show the thumbnail of the actual video, which indicates to me that embuary is showing the xxxx-poster.jpg. Here is a screenshot of both views to show what I'm talking about: Emby for Kodi: https://photos.app.goo.gl/Ksu3yXVYAn9AJYa79 EmbyCon: https://photos.app.goo.gl/riQYcyVBT4qMkY5g8 Ultimately, I would like to have the emby for kodi view match up to the embycon view. I would just use embycon for this view and call it a day, but on my main box (I discovered this on my test machine), I use embycon for my daughter's emby profile so that she is able to watch her shows/movies, while at the same time keeping them separate from my wife and my shows/movies, and this library is not added to my daughter's profile. Here is a log of me navigating both views (clean install, other than installing emby for kodi, embycon, & embuary): https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/SmvH3y28cx/ Here is a screenshot of what the file structure looks like on my server: https://photos.app.goo.gl/3g3wYg8zg9stQgks9 Thanks for your help

    change server

Hi, when using either add-on, is there any way to add multiple/change servers (like in some of the Emby apps)?
  14. Hi, has anyone ever had Kodi (or Emby) delete a TV episode they are currently watching? I am using the Emby for Kodi plug-in on a Windows 10 machine, with Emby Server running on a Ubuntu 16.04 box. I have only noticed this behavior when I am watching an episode that is still in the watch folder for Auto-Organize. Attached a partial debug log from when this last happened. Partial Log.txt
  15. Hi All, Small issue and annoyance with Timlord plugin, nfo’s and Kodi. TimeLord updates series data after every scan when no data has changed, season and episode dates remain unchanged. This causes kodi for emby to do a incremental sync every time after TimeLordrd is run, all tv shows have there nfo modified date changed. Included server log with manually triggered task done twice. embyserver2.txt in the log you can see: TimeLord :: Rework Series Dates Emby.Kodi.SyncQueue: "LIBRARYSYNC" Updated 387 items: Emby version: TimeLordTV Emby-Kodi (3.0.26) Kodi companion

Emby smart shortcuts missing some shows

Hello, I have a minor problem with viewing some Emby TV libraries in Kodi, and I'm not exactly sure if this is a Emby for Kodi addon issue, a Titan skin issue, or a Skin Helper service issue. I have different TV libraries set up for the adults, (TV-Dad) and the kids (TV-Kids), and then I also have separate users for the adults and the kids. The kids only get access to TV-Kids and the adults get access to both TV-Dad and TV-Kids. I also have a folder of shows that I add to both libraries, so those shows should show up in both libraries. This works correctly in the Emby web app, Emby Theater, and the EmbyCon addon in Kodi. However, after setting up the Emby for Kodi addon with the adult user and attempting to use the smart shortcuts within the Titan skin to view these libraries, the shows that should show up in both libraries are missing from the TV-Dad library but appear in the TV-Kids library. It's not a huge issue because the adults can still access those shows from either the TV-Kids shortcut or by just viewing all the TV shows. But I thought I'd ask if it was a known limitation of the smart shortcuts or if they should work as I had intended them to. Thanks for any help you can offer.

    Exclusions on Import to Kodi

Hi guys, First time posting here, just setting up my HTPC with Emby running on my server and hit a bit of a snag. I have a sub-directory I wish to exclude from Kodi specifically; Emby can continue to have the file in it's library. I figured this would be rather simple: create the exception in advancedsettings.xml, reset the local database and be done. Unfortunately, this does not seem to work. I am wondering if I am missing a step or if this a limitation/feature not yet implemented. For reference, my advancedsettings.xml is the following: <advancedsettings> <video> <!-- VideoExtras: Section Start --> <excludefromscan action="append"> <regexp>/Extras/</regexp> <regexp>[\\/]Extras[\\/]</regexp> </excludefromscan> <excludetvshowsfromscan action="append"> <regexp>/Extras/</regexp> <regexp>[\\/]Extras[\\/]</regexp> </excludetvshowsfromscan> <!-- VideoExtras: Section End --> </video> </advancedsettings> Anyone else experiencing this? I'm using Kodi 17.3 with Emby for Kodi 2.3.48 on Arch Linux. Thanks!
  18. I am having a big problem with my Android TV boxes freezing up completely when I load my Emby (for kodi) database. I'm looking for anyone with some insight into this problem. My environment: Server: Tower, i7, Windows 10, with 12GB RAM running the Emby Server Storage: 40TB Synology NAS containing: over 3,500 movies, over 2,000 TV shows, tens of thousands songs, over 100,000 images, and hundreds of home videos Users: 2 Windows 10 PC's running kodi with emby-for-kodi 2 TV's, each running fairly high-end Android boxes equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB ROM (storage). One box runs Android 4.1, the other runs Android 6.0. Both of them run kodi Jarvis 16.1. I can't upgrade to kodi 17 because one of the boxes runs Android 4.1 and is not compatible with kodi 17, and I want to keep the two boxes as identical as possible to keep my life simple. Network: 1GB hard-wired ethernet LAN High speed Internet from Cox On the kodi boxes, I am running my own set up (build) - not a downloaded build. My build has Home-Screen tabs for each of the Emby library elements - Movie Library, Pictures, Music, and Home Videos for enjoying our large collection of local media. In addition, the kodi boxes have many of the standard Video Addons such as Exodus, SALTS, SportsDevil, etc... for streaming online content. I spend a lot of time enhancing/expanding my local Emby library of movies. Primarily, adding the correct titles, overviews, and images. I suspect that this freezing problem may be related to the amount of artwork and the number of fanart images that I have added to the emby database. I am averaging about 15-20 high-resolution images for every single movie. This includes posters, thumbs, logo's, clearart, banners and especially fanart. The reason I suspect this may be the problem is that the issues with kodi crashing/freezing have become worse and worse as I continue enhancing the emby database with more and more images. Could it be true that emby server can handle this rich set of metadata, but it overwhelmes kodi??? Anyone? Within the emby-for kodi addon, I have configured the app to cache all the artwork as this makes the UI experience much, much better. The problem arises almost exclusively when I attempt to exit kodi. As soon as I click on "Exit" or the power button, the screen freezes. I have tried waiting this out, hoping it is simply doing some kind of graceful shutdown, but ultimately, I give up and unplug the box completely and re-boot it. After rebooting, the kodi app will not even launch. It tries - I see the first kodi splash screen, but then it jumps back to the android launcher screen. If I try to launch kodi a second time, it simply goes to a black screen forever, and requires a full reboot of the box. I say "amost exclusively" because sometimes the kodi app will just kick the user back to the Android launcher screen right in the middle of a movie or other activity. Once it does this, the app won't launch again. I have tried clearing cache, scrubbing memory (RAM), but nothing helps. To get kodi functioning again, I have to start over - installing and configuring kodi. Sometimes I can get away with uninstalling and reinstalling kodi, but recently that is not even working, and I am required to do a full factory restore, and start completely over configuring everything. Thankfully, I have my kodi build fully backed up, so when my Android boxes lock up, I can completely start from scratch and restore them in about 30-45 minutes. The two Android boxes are from different manufacturers, so there is no commonality in the boxes' hardware. For now, I have uninstalled the emby-for-kodi addon from the two Android TV boxes, and we are now not able to enjoy any of our own media, but exclusively watch streaming content online. Final point - none of these issues seem to exist on the Windows 10 PC's. They run the some kodi build including the emby-for-kodi app, but rarely have problems. Has anyone out there had similar problems? Any advice would be appreciated.
  19. Hello, I'm using the latest OSMC for Raspberry Pi2 with the Emby for Kodi addon and when the library is scanning it just suddenly crashes and I see the sad face screen before starting all over again. Everything was working perfect before I update OSMC. I figured it might be an issue with the update so I did a fresh install and I'm still getting the same problems. The steps I followed were to download the img from OSMC, write to micro SD using WIn32 Disk Imager, install Emby for Kodi via file manager using Beta 1.0.5, login to my Emby Server via the addon, begin library update. This is the same process I followed before so I don't think there is any issue with how I'm executing everything. I have added a URL to the log file (and attached.txt) so hopefully someone can take a look and let me know if anything stands out. Kodi OS: OSMC latest version OSMC_TGT_rbp2_20170210 Emby Server: Version Emby for Kodi: 1.0.5 repository Scan gets about 20-30% in for Movies and then crashes to sad face screen, process repeats itself every time. Log File: http://paste.osmc.io/inojukafey Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks, Tman12 Kodi Log.txt

    Emby for Kodi Freezes

  21. Hello Everyone, I have Emby server V.3.0.6300.0-1 running in my Synology. It is working perfectly in Web, iOS, and android environments. I recently installed KODI in my mac and Emby add-on for KODI. Now, KODI is able to fetch all the information from Emby server, However, if I try to play some movies, or videos it throws the error : cannot find next item to play Instead of using add-on from Emby, if I add files from my Synology smb server, it is able to play the movies. Therefore, I am assuming that there is something going wrong with KODI - Emby interface. I have attached the recent log file. One thing peculiar in the log file that got my attention was: 0:40:45 T:123145303453696 NOTICE: EMBY.playbackutils -> Play called. 00:40:45 T:123145303453696 NOTICE: EMBY.playutils -> Verifying path: /volume1/downloads/filestream/Movies/The Hateful Eight (2015).mkv 00:40:45 T:123145303453696 NOTICE: EMBY.playutils -> Can't verify path, assumed linux. There is similar post: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/31500-cant-play-since-new-update-playlist-error/ Which, has been fixed by changing parameters in advancedsettings.xml, which in my case cannot find the location of the file. Also the topic is closed. Your help would be greatly appreciated. kodi.log
  22. I don't know if it was some strange coincidence but since the latest ShieldTV 3.2 update I have had nothing but problems. Prior to that all was working quite well. Since then none of my movie files will play, but for some reason all my TV show (files) play fine... I have tried everything I could think of, or find w/google or find here, or on the the Kodi forums. I have checked my path substitutions dozens of times, I have even done the factory reset on the Shield. Nothing worked...so I installed Kodi and Emby for Kodi on my Win 10 laptop and I get the same behavior TV files plays fine but not movies. All of my media is on the same Unraid server (on different shares) but I went ahead and ran the permissions utility to reset all the permissions to every file. I have tried the Emby for Kodi 2.2.14 on both Kodi 16.1 and on SPMC 16.3, both behave the same. I tried removing my Movies library in the Emby server manager and adding it back, still doesn't work. As an experiment I added a single movie folder from the same server/share to SPMC as a source and it plays perfectly. Attached is a log. Hope someone can help...I have been messing around with this all day.....aarrrggghhhh! Thanks in advance, denzoid emby_spmc.log
  23. This is a duplicate issue in another forum post, but nobody has been posting anything in that thread: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/32876-kodi-crashes-when-playing-from-home-screen-widgets/ Basically, when trying to view a Movie or TV show from a home screen widget, such as Movies, or TV Shows, Kodi crashes immediately. However, if I go into the Movies or TV Shows menu, I can play content just fine from the Emby back end. This only seems to happen on the home screen, and it does not matter what Skin is being used. I've experienced this with Kodi 17, 16.1, and 16. Kodi 15.2 does not seem to have this problem. This will happen consistently on both tvOS and iOS devices. I've sideloaded Kodi on several iPhone 6/6 Plus and Apple TV 4's, and all display the same behavior. I've attached my logs just in case they may be helpful in any way. kodi.log kodi.old.log
  24. Hi there, I'm able to use Emby for Kodi normally when I'm on my LAN, but as soon as I switch off WiFi on my phone, I can't seem to get anything to play. I should mention that I've already selected the option "Play from HTTP instead of SMB" from inside the plugin settings, and that I have port 8096 forwarded correctly on my router. I've attached the log file. The only thing I've done in the log is edited my DDNS hostname from what the no-ip hostname actually was to <hostname>.no-ip.org, for security purposes. Is there anything I'm missing here? I spent the last day trying to figure this out with less than desirable results. Any insight that anyone could provide into this would be greatly appreciated. P.S. - The log entries might look a little strange at the end there as you can see that I'm transferring the log file to a local share, but at that point I had switched WiFi back on solely for that purpose. kodi.log

Emby for Kodi won't install on Android

Hi, Just installed Kodi on my phone (Samsung Galaxy S6, Android 5.1.1). I enable the downloaded repo (version 1.0.2), Tap "Kodi Emby Addons" and then "Video Add-ons" and "Emby", then when I tap "Install" nothing happens at all. Add-on version is 1.1.60. Any ideas? This should work, right? Hans Petter
