I'm using a Xbox 360 controller with Emby Theater Desktop App in Windows 10 and i have noticed that the "Enter" button (A button) doesn't work in some places, like in the manual login screen where i expected to press the "A" button so it shows the on screen keyboard but that doesn't happens however if i call the on screen keyboard using "intro" key on the usb keyboard then i can input some letters using the Xbox 360 controller and the "A" button. Another instance where i find this same behavior is when selecting the version to play in multi version movies, changing the audio or the subtitle track, again pressing the "A" button does nothing, but then pressing "intro" key on the keyboard i allows me to choose the track select it with "A" button. And the last place where i find this bug was in the settings menu, i'm able to navigate through the menus but can't change any option.

I tried the browser to use a web based version of Emby on Xbox 360, didn't seem to want to work. Is there any plans to update more support for Windows 10 as WMC isn't supported by MS for Win10? Mostly asking so I can keep a use for my Xbox 360 and not have to switch to another media center software that has more support for the 360 (won't mention names).

Hi. Just wondering if its possible to use an old XBox 360 to access Emby server? I used to use the 360 as a WMC extender but given that Win 10 no longer has WMC, is there any other way to use the 360 to view my media? Can see the app for XBox One but not the 360. Thanks...

Note: This process was contributed by a community member and we have no reason to believe it doesn't work if followed to the letter. However, we haven't verified the process lately so it is possible it is out of date. Please let us know of your experience if you attempt this. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Getting MKV and other media files to play directly on your Xbox 360 with Media Browser 3, and Media Browser Classic, can be a frustrating experience. Trust me, I’ve been there, and I have spent many hours banging my head trying to figure out how to get it to work. Seemingly at times I thought I had everything setup correctly, but Media Browser would end up transcoding the file, or unable to play it all. It was a mystery for a while to me, and the behavior was hard to track down. I’ve read countless forums, some even suggesting that this simply won’t work. That is the furthest thing from the truth. Through many efforts I discovered how to get this to work fairly easily, as long as you know what you need to do, and the exact steps to do it! With Xbox 360s going for under $99 now, more and more people are going to take the plunge. I figured I would write this tutorial to save everyone time and their sanity. You can finally start enjoying your Windows Media Center experience like you should. Simply stated having this work under Media Browser Classic is an awesome experience! The interface is unmatched to anything else that is out there. Setting up the server backend correctly: 1. You’ll of course want to have Media Browser 3 installed on a server already. In my setup I have Windows Media Center separated from my NAS. My NAS is simply a Windows 7 machine, with Media Browser installed on it, and all my media files are located on the same server. 2. Setup your Media Browser libraries. Ensure that Media Browser is pointed to your libraries by using UNC Shares and NOT local drives. Even if Media Browser is on the same system as your media files like mine, DO NOT use local drive paths (D:\Movies), instead type in the UNC path \\MEDIASERVER\Movies for example. 3. DO NOT use the Path Substitution option in Media Browser. If you use UNC paths, this should be more than sufficient. I’ve had strange behaviors when using this instead to translate local drive paths. 4. Create a user with Administrator rights to your Media Libraries. In my setup it is called mcuser. Create the same user on both your Media Center server, and your NAS. (If they are separate machines.) 5. Ensure you setup your media libraries in Windows Media Center as well, providing the credentials for mcuser. 6. Use this tool, to give the MCX#-SERVERNAME Administrator access to your media libraries by using the above wmcuser account. http://tobias-tobin.blogspot.com/2008/08/giving-media-center-extender-access-to.html Note: If your Media Browser server, and Windows Media Center machine are on the same server, step 5 and 6 may not be necessary, but I am unable to verify this at this time. In addition you'll need to have a separate account that has full Administrator rights to your libraries. More information on how the tool works is available on the website. 7. Load a CODEC pack on your Windows Media Center server. I prefer Shark007, but others may work with some tweaking. Get it here: http://shark007.net. Use Shark's recommended settings on both 32-bit and 64-bit CODECs, and says yes to the Live TV, Xbox 360 question. In addition under MKV, I choose to use Alternative Extender support. 8. If you have not already done so install Media Browser Classic on your Windows Media Center machine and make sure it launches. 9. Launch the Media Browser Classic Configuration program, and go to the extender+iso tab. Ensure that Enable Transcode 360 is UNCHECKED. Transcoding is bad, we do not want it! 10. While in the extender+iso tab under extender formats, ensure you put the media extensions you want to play natively, such as .MKV or .MP4 . Setting up your Xbox360: Here is where it got weird and this is key. It took me a while to figure these exact steps out. However, first, a little background: it’s a little known fact that Microsoft has released a new version of the Optional Media Update that will play MKVs and other media files natively. Originally Microsoft has had several versions of this program, but not all of them will play MKVs. This coincides with the update they have released for the Xbox ONE. However, the trick is getting the right version to download, which isn’t as obvious as you would think. From my experience, without having an Xbox LIVE membership it’s not possible to download the necessary update. In addition, I was NOT able to get the right version by downloading it manually (searching the app store). Like I said In order to get the proper version, it will be necessary to have an Xbox LIVE membership. As far as I can tell, the correct version is only available for XBOX Live members. If you are not already a member you will need to create an account and sign up for a membership. Note: The first month is free, so you can sign-up temporarily and cancel if you so desire once you get the update. The update should remain on the Xbox 360 even if you no longer have a membership. In order to get the correct update, perform the following steps: 1. If you do not already have an Xbox LIVE membership go to live.xbox.com and either create a new user, or setup an existing one that you will use on all your extenders with a subscription (this will unfortunately require a Credit Card). Note: You cannot just create an account. Simply, having an account will NOT be enough to download the correct Optional Media Update. 2. Now power on your Xbox 360 extender and navigate to the Xbox Dashboard. If your extender launches immediately to Windows Media Center, exit and go back to the Xbox Dashboard. 3. We first need to check to see if you have the older version of Optional Media Update first by going to Settings > System > Storage > Hard Drive > System Items. If it’s there delete it. If we do not remove it, the Xbox will not update the current version we have. 4. If you created a new account you will need to download the profile to your Xbox 360 Extender you just made from Xbox LIVE. Once your profile is downloaded, ensure that you login to that profile by choosing it under the Social dashboard. You can also enable automatic login to this profile, by going to Settings > Profile > Sign-in Preferences > Profile Auto Sign-In > On which is preferable for a Windows Media Center extender. If you just added a subscription to an existing account, I found that I add to delete the profile on the Xbox, and download it again as described above to get it to recognize the new subscription. The key to this whole thing is to have an active connection to Xbox LIVE. If you don’t it won’t download the Optional Media Update that you need. 6. Now launch Windows Media Center on your Xbox 360. 7. In order to get the proper update, you’ll need to make sure that you have your movie or TV show media libraries available natively in Windows Media Center, WITHOUT using Media Browser Classic. Clicking on a movie or TV Show from the regular Windows Media Center interface, will allow the Xbox 360 to come up with a screen that will prompt you to download the new version of the Optional Media Update. For some reason if you use Media Browser Classic it will block the download from occurring even when though the screen comes up initially. However, the dialog box to download the update disappears. Using the regular Windows Media Center interface will allow you to do this. In addition DO NOT use Recorded TV, it will never prompt you because Windows Media Center sees these as native media files, which should be .WTV. The media file has to be an MKV or MP4 to have the Xbox 360 initiate a download for the Optional Media Update. 8. Reboot your Xbox 360 extender, and re-launch Windows Media Center. 9. Now go into Media Browser Classic, and navigate to your libraries. Choose your favorite movie or TV Show and enjoy direct playback without Media Browser transcoding them! Yay quality! You’ll also be able to tell if the program is being transcoded or direct played by going to the Media Browser dashboard. Under Server > Active Devices > hover your mouse on the device that is streaming and it will tell you if it is Direct Play or Transcoding the file. Note: You’ll need to do this on every Xbox 360 Extender you have. Hope this guide serves you guys and gals well. Enjoy!

Hello all, I am yet another new member to the community - I read about MB3 for about 5 minutes and immediately became a lifetime member - I think it's a great tool and I can't wait to see where things go! In the interest of a brief background, here's my environment: - Windows 7 x64 running Windows Media Server (using Ceton cards on Verizon FIOS) - sending live and recorded TV to several XBox 360s around the house (works great) - large movie collection sitting on network-attached storage device (mapped as drive M: on server) - 99% of the movies are in .vob format (due to size of collection I have no interest in any sort of conversion) - no music or photos to worry about - just installed MB3 a little while ago (installed Cover Art and Rotten Tomatoes plugins) My use cases are as follows: 1. Use MB3 to present movie collection to a viewer that's sitting in front of the media server and big TV - once a movie is selected, have VLC take over and actually perform playback 2. From other PCs located around the house, use MB3 to browse movie collection and once again have VLC take over once the play option is selected 3. Transcode movies from MB3 to XBox 360s I have been all over the forums, but I'm still a little unclear on feasibility as well as procedures to try and set up my use cases. From what I've been able to discern, folks are using VLC on PCs for playback, but I can't get it to work to save my life. I have the VLC option enabled under options in my browser, and even when I click on "Play" - I get the option to play from VLC, but it just won't start. I have created the direct mapping, but I'm stuck. I have VLC open when I try this as well. Am I missing something? Is it possible to launch VLC from the web client or is that a non-starter? My search results for watching movies on the 360 are all over the place. Some threads give the impression that it works for some (with a few caveats), others suggest that I should set fire to all of my 360s and buy Rokus. I know the 360 is a million years old, but it's sitting there serving up live and recorded HD programming brilliantly as well as playing oldie but goodie games, so I'd love to pursue the holy grail of getting my movie collection on them. I've done my best to search FAQs, Wikis, and other areas, and I fashion myself as a competent user, but any guidance would really be appreciated! We just got an xbox 360. We would like to use the media center app to play all of our media. Currently we also have a laptop hooked to this TV on which we use Media Center to play our media. We're short one HDMI port on the TV, so using Media Center via Xbox will let us put that laptop out to pasture. Everything works except for playing our DVD collection, which is ripped to the hard drive of a PC on the network, in ISO format. I came across a web site that showed how to use Media Browser and Transcode 360 to get this to work, and I'm close. Here's where it stands right now... First we set up the Xbox as a media center extender, to basically link the Xbox to the Media Center on the PC where the DVDs are stored. On the Xbox, I go to the Media Center app. I can go through the pictures, MP3 files, videos etc. using the normal media center options. It all looks just like you're using Media Center on the PC (i.e. all the libraries are already set up etc.). When I want to play a DVD, I go to the Media Browser plugin in Media Center, select a movie, then hit play. The DVD gets mounted on the PC (I can see it assigned a new letter drive in Windows Explorer), but this is where it gets weird. Once it's mounted, it starts to play...on the desktop of the PC. A media Center window opens on the PC, and the movie starts playing. On the Xbox, it still shows the menu with Play / Refresh options. How can I get this to stream to the Xbox like the other media does? Recorded TV files (wtv) and other video files (AVI / WMV etc) play fine through the Media Center menu options, and on the Xbox ONLY, but the mounted DVD (the only items I'm playing through the Media Browser plugin in Media Center) play on the PC's desktop only. Any thoughts? I know I could convert these ISOs to a video format, but I'd really rather not, if I can get the ISOs working. Thanks. Eric

Hi guys, As another long time MB user who just recently upgraded to MB3 and MBC, I find I have a disappointing problem. My PC is more than powerful enough to run MBC just fine, but when I run it through my XBox 360 extender on a wired connection (not wifi) the interface slows down (lags) so much that it is unuseable. This happens with the 4 themes I have: Classic, Subdued, Chocolate and Xenon. I don't have any other plugins installed. The only solution I have found so far is to turn off all backdrops, everywhere. This makes it useable, but still slow. On my PC, there is no problem using backdrops. All of my files play just fine, with no lagging or stuttering, both on thed PC and the extender. It's only the interface that is laggy over the extender. BTW, all my artwork is from metadata, not custom stuff. MB2 ran all of this just fine. I hope there's a solution to this problem, because it seems a shame to have the possibility of a beautiful interface with lots of nice artwork, but be required to shut it off to make it useable. I'm not a programmer, but it seems illogical to me that MBC can stream HD video files to my extender correctly, but lags when it has to handle a bunch of 0.5 MB jpg files. Can this have anything to do with the fact that I enabled chapters for all my files? I can't post the log file because it's too big (36 MB, is that normal?). Any help would be appreicated. Keith

Hello Guys, I didn't know where to place this so I placed it here. If it needs to be moved, please feel free to do so. Alright, Let me get to it. I just decided to get an XBOX as an extender to use with Windows Media Center and Media Browser Classic. As we all know XBOX does not play MKV files. All my files are MKVs. I would like to write a script or use an existing one with minor modification to mass convert all my movies and tv series from MKV to MP4. I am not sure what I do know about MKV to MP$ to be true so I am asking for some help. I have read several threads and everyone has their own take on this. This is what I know so far. Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong. MP4 must only contain AAC or AC3 tracks to be compatible with all devices. Converting MKV to MP4 is a resource hog and it is super slow. To speed the process MKV can just change the container to MP4 which is super fast. A lot of MKVs are encoded in H.264 which means the video part does not need to be re-encoded. It can just be copied to the new container. Also there will be no quality lost. Now if you have an MKV file with a DTS track, you may want to change the video container but remux the audio to AC3 or AAC. But AC3 requires the user to have a receiver. Otherwise, it will be force to be transcoded. AAC is the most common track. It will playback in all devices. Someone suggest to add an AAC track as well as AC3 to all MP4s to ensure that the file does not require transcoding ever. Also if someone has already done that, by all means, share the info. Enviroment: Windows 7 box = running MB3 Xbox 360 = Windows Media Center + MB3 Classic Plugin. Issue: Size is off when viewing content. Not sure how to resize? Currently can Full Size the frame but it cuts off the edges. Not sure where adjustments are at? MB3 Classic Configuration or is it in the MB3 Server configuration? Just noticed that DLNA when used with a xBox 360 as an Extender transcodes mpg files - This makes the whole process rather ugly. I Believe the xBox can handle a native MPG file

Hello, I'm getting the "cannot play video" error in MBC on my Xbox 360 for files I'm sure should play OK. They are mainly 720p .avi videos (h.264 + MPEG AAC). Most are in stereo, some 5.1. They all play in WMP and WMC just fine. They are housed on a NAS, but I use the correct path reference (that is, not a drive letter). All my 1080p .wmv and 480 .avi (DIVX + AC3) from the same NAS play fine on the Xbox. Oddly, one .avi video plays OK and it is the same exact format as the ones that won't play (h.264, 23.9 fps, 4:2:0 YUV, MPEG AAC-SBR 48kHz Stereo). I installed the Shark007 codec pack and set it to the default settings, checked the MBC log files, restated the PC, scoured the MB3 support pages, everything I can think of, but couldn't find a resolution. The log below shows that I played 12 Years a Slave.wmv without a problem, but 21 Jump Street.avi stopped MBC dead in its tracks and gave the "Cannot Play Video" error. Any ideas as to how I can fix this issue? I figure its a codec problem, but I'm not sure what to try next. Thanks in advance. I've had MB3 Server and MBC working well for several months now. MB3 Server is running on a Windows Server 2008 R2 box and MBC is running on a Windows 7 Pro x64 machine. I'm looking to get rid of a couple of FiOS STBs and had an XBOX 360 kicking around so I decided to set it up as an extender. Everything works fine and I can access shared folders on the Win Server 2008 box from the XBOX extender. When I try launching MBC on the extender, however, I get the following error: Re-trying makes no difference. The firewall is turned off on the server and I'm using the default MB3 ports. I can access the library from all machines on the network except the XBOX 360 extender. Any ideas? Thanks -- Steve
