So, this past weekend I did some research on how to rip and play 3D Blu Ray movies from my Emby server and I'm just as confused as I was before searching. I'm hoping someone in the forums can shed some light for me. First off, do I need a 3D Blu Ray player just to rip 3D movies? I have a Blu Ray drive, but its not 3D. If I need a 3D drive just to rip 3D movies then the rest of my questions are moot. However, I have successfully been able to rip 3D movies with MakeMKV but they only play in 2D. Which leads me to my next question... What do I need to PLAY 3D ripped movies, software and hardware wise? As I said, I have been able to both rip 3D movies to mkv and also original disc format ('copy and paste,' so to speak). My computer is less than 6 months old and I have quad cores, 64GB RAM and a upper tier video card that is "VR ready." I have it connected to a 3D ready TV which I have used to watch 3D movies with my stand-alone 3d blu ray player. I also have Kodi installed for Emby. Even with Kodi reading the movie directly off my PC instead of the Emby server, it still won't play in 3D, just 2D. Kodi seems to think it is 3D-it shows the little 3D glasses icon--but playback is 2D. Am I missing some special codec? Finally, if I already have all I need, what settings to I need to set to make it work? Kodi allows you to change the 3D format, but the options are odd and don't seem compatible with modern 3D movies. For example, you can do red/green but that's, like, for 1950's era 3D movies. Or you can do side by side, but that just shows the movie in two boxes side by side. Maybe that's meant for VR, I dunno. There's also top and bottom--I have no idea what that's for!

I have backed up a DVD into a folder that Emby looks for Movies in using the command: dvdbackup -i /dev/sr0 -o /output/folder -M This completed successfully and the emby user has read and write permissions on the folder and all sub files. This creates a full disk backup with extras and everything. This is what the file structure looks like: . ├── Back To The Future │ ├── fanart.jpg │ ├── landscape.jpg │ ├── logo.png │ ├── poster.jpg │ └── VIDEO_TS │ ├── VIDEO_TS.BUP │ ├── VIDEO_TS.IFO │ ├── VIDEO_TS.nfo │ ├── VIDEO_TS.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_01_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_01_0.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_1.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_2.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_3.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_4.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_5.VOB │ ├── VTS_01_6.VOB │ ├── VTS_02_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_02_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_02_0.VOB │ ├── VTS_02_1.VOB │ ├── VTS_02_2.VOB │ ├── VTS_03_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_03_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_03_0.VOB │ ├── VTS_03_1.VOB │ ├── VTS_04_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_04_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_04_0.VOB │ ├── VTS_04_1.VOB │ ├── VTS_05_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_05_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_05_0.VOB │ ├── VTS_05_1.VOB │ ├── VTS_06_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_06_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_06_0.VOB │ ├── VTS_06_1.VOB │ ├── VTS_07_0.BUP │ ├── VTS_07_0.IFO │ ├── VTS_07_0.VOB │ └── VTS_07_1.VOB Emby recognises the film but won't play it. Hello, first, thanks for the greats efforts you guys have spend to build such nice media center! I have moved from XBMC to MB recently hand found myself left with some unanswered questions. DVD rips means for me to copy the DVD main movie only with two audio tracks and related subtitles into VIDEO_TS folder structure. This has been done for hundreds of DVD and VLC and other can play such flawless. If I do now the same thing in MBT the main movie starts, but compared to XBMC the following issues are occurring: · No time code / runtime · No fast forward or any kind of such · No way to pick a different audio track nor subtitle * * I know that 'i' shortcut will bring a menu. And this is of course working fine on my m2ts Blu-ray rips in term of changing the audio stream. But with the DVD rips, the menu point for Audio is gone. Transcoding the same DVD rips (via Android device) let me choose the correct audio track. Of course, in LAV and on the server side I have set the default language, but its still picking the wrong audio track in MBT However, since it depends on my current moot to listen to native or English language is there an easy way I might have overseen to change the audio track during the runtime? Thanks & Regards, Klapetste

I have been using Emby for awhile now, but the one thing I've been unable to do is watch ripped 3D Blu Rays on my HTPC. I was wondering what solutions people have come up with for this problem? So far the only success I have had (other than putting in the disc and playing it with PowerDVD 15) is to rip it with MakeMKV as an mvc file, and use Stereoscopic Player. The trouble is, I only have the demo of Stereoscopic Player since its not a free application and I'm, um, on a budget. Is there any free software that can be used to play 3D Blu Rays? If not, I will bite the bullet and buy it, but can Emby use Stereoscopic Player as an external player? The second, less important, question I have is...is there any way to get my TV to play ripped 3D Blu Rays in 3D automatically? If I stick the disc in or watch something natively in 3D on TV (DirectTV used to have 3D channels, though they are long gone now) my Samsung un60es7150 would automatically swtich to 3D mode. However, with Stereoscopic Player I have to pick 'side by side' as my viewing format, start playing, then go to the TV's menu and manually turn on 3D side by side mode. Boo hoo, my diamond necklace chafes, but it is pretty annoying. Is there a better way? Thanks for your help and sorry if this is in the wrong forum, I wasn't really sure where to post it.

Best way to rip and playback Full HD Frame-Packed 3D Blu-ray for Emby?
Sammy posted a topic in General/Windows
Well the title sort of says it all.. Are iso rips with iso mounting and external player loading in Emby Configurator for WMC still the best way to do it? In the past I was using MB2.6.X with this set up to play back via TMT5 for WMC. Then my HTPC failed on me and I am just now finally getting everything put back together. Any suggestions would be welcome.- 36 replies

Just wondering if DVD rip playback is available in MBT yet ? For me, that means can I play DVDs ripped into video_ts folders, as mentioned in MBC forum item 'Black screen when playing .vob files inside VIDEO_TS folder'. Thanks.

Moving from Blu-Ray ISO to MKV - What to expect?
crashkelly posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
Hi, In an earlier conversation today in a different thread it was suggested that having Blu-ray rips stored as MKV rather than ISO would provide better functionality with MB. I can for sure see that it is easier, no mounting and no external player, but I was wondering what else I would run into or have to configure if I chose to go that route. In my current setup I rip my Blu-rays with DVDFab and keep only the main movie, high definition audio, and the English subs and write them to the ISO format. I know I can use MakeMKV to rip the Blu-ray and select out what I want, but when it comes to playback, is there anything else, like further configuration of LAV, that will have to be done. Also, is there anything to deal with 3D Blu-ray ripping where I do not have to change the 3D format? (Does it even matter if you do?) I have in general been happy with the ISO rips, but if it can be better/easier I would love to learn and go that route. Thanks for any info Cheers
