Modern Internet, Direct Play, Transcoding (Is it needed)
ZACHxAxROO posted a topic in General/Windows
So recently, I purchased a Quadro P620 to handle a couple 4K transcodes here an there when I am not at home or my relative wants to stream a 4K movie. After a bit of finagling with drivers, I got the card to work with Emby. At first I thought it was working great, and to be fair, it was doing a great job transcoding. Transcoding 4K HEVC to 4K H264 100Mb. I then questioned why it was transcoding at all at that bitrate. Turns out because I was using a browser. I then tested the app and my phone. Both of which direct played flawlessly away from home. Now I am only 10 miles away. So It does not need to go through a lot of paths between my work and my house. I am unsure of the limit when further from home. Is modern internet speed reducing the need for transcoding? Or am I just close enough to my home server to allow for such speeds? I haven't been on any vacations or trips that have taken me more than a state away recently and haven't been able to test it out until now. If needed, how many of you transcode from 4k to a lower bitrate 4k? Or do most transcode 4K to 1080p? Is it better to transcode 4K to 1080P or directly play 1080P (over the internet)? I'm curious to see if my relatives house is close enough to direct play. I kind of feel I bought the P620 for nothing if it does then. I created this topic as a general discussion but also general questions for other users with experience in the transcoding world. I have direct played to a Nvidia Shield up until this point, so while I have had Emby for quite a long time, transcoding is new to me. -

is there any way I can introduce a .mkv file with another extension to emby in any way? a01b16.dxr a01b15.ojv a01b01.itj a01b18.khp a01b19.zkg a01b17.hio a01b12.yra a01b20.mar a01b07.ovu a01b05.adq a01b10.zei a01b09.itf a01b03.pea a01b06.brl a01b14.mun a01b02.lvj a01b11.evm a01b08.tsa a01b13.pfu a01b04.loz can play them all as mkv regardless of these extensions? these are all essentially mkv files but for some reason I have hidden them, can we force emby to play them as mkv? -
Hi. I really like the UI and layout of the Android TV app, but I prefer Kodi as the actual player. When choosing Kodi to play Dolby Vision files it either won't play it at all, or plays it with the picture looking completely wrong (green and purple) Is there some setting that I'm missing, or will the Android TV app just not play Dolby Vision files with kodi? Thanks very much

Hi, I have two libraries, one for TV and one for movies. The TV thumbnails in the library view shows each individual file. The movie thumbnails only has two files in it, but instead of showing just these two files it duplicates them. (See attachment) Is there a way of emby treating these individual movies the same way it treats TV files and just showing one thumbnail for each file? Thanks

I've posted this question everywhere and can't seem to get a single response or any information. I understand that Google exists, but I just prefer the knowledge of first hand experience rather than articles and Youtube videos using random hardware.. Current Config: Dell Optiplex 3060 (i5-9500T) - Emby & .arr Host QNAP TS-253A NAS - Media Storage via Mapped Network Drive I'm in the market for a storage upgrade, and wanted to get an idea of what my best options are config-wise for this specific matter. My NAS is operating fine and is an efficient little system, but I am concerned about longevity and data stability considering it's age, so I would rather utilize it for less important files and whatnot. *I do not have room for a big rack setup, or anything larger than a 2 - 4 bay enclosure.* My setup exists in a small closet off the master bedroom, I have a 2.5 year old as well as my wife's cats, so I can't relocate the system or make it excessively large. (A rack mount is definitely a future plan, but for now, I just need something compact and stable that can accommodate my ever expanding library) Quick glances at Amazon have lead me to consider either this Mediasonic USB 3.2 4 Bay or this Yottamaster 4 Bay (maybe even this?), but I am curious if anybody here has experience with these devices, or if you would have a better suggestion. I plan on snagging three 8tb HDD's to put inside of it (alongside one that I already own). My other struggle is with deciding how I want to configure the storage options of the drives themselves, as there are several avenues I could take for this. (RAID, Storage Pool, etc.) So, in the DUMBEST way possible, can somebody break down the big distinctions between RAID, and utilizing the Storage Spaces tool in Windows to create a storage pool, and also decipher which option would be best for long term use and stability? My preferences are few as far as the storage operation itself, and is pretty much: - I want all of the drives to behave as one, and not have to navigate several drives to organize my files (movies, shows, etc.) - In the event that one drive should fail, I would not lose all of my data. Thanks!

Support, Can someone advise if there is a third party plugin that can be loaded into EMBY for music playback that will remain static settings across Windows OS/Android/FireTV? Plugin that can be loaded on the backend and the EQ settings will carry over. Please advise Dave

The description for the Advanced->Scheduled tasks->Scan Media Library says "Scans your media library and refreshes metadata based on library options". Two questions about that task: Is this the equivalent of manually doing a "Scan Library Files", followed by a "Refresh Metadata" on a library? Or is this just simply doing the manual equivalent of "Scan Library Files"? Does this also create image thumbnails (I have it enabled to generate thumbnails every 10s on scheduled task and when added) Regarding the task "Thumbnail image extraction" just below that, I also have a few questions: Does this also happen as part of the above task, "Scan Media Library"? If #1 doesn't apply, then would you suggest scheduling this to run before "Scan Media Library" or after? I guess I don't quite fully grasp what "Scan Media Library" does. Couple questions about it: Does it just simply look for your files and subs and whatever else is in the directory that's compatible with Emby, and then add those to your library to view? Will this pick up any new external subtitles that have been added to the video's directory, or do I have to also refresh metadata? Does it in any way generate thumbnail images, intro detection, credits detection, etc.? Thanks, I know it's a bunch of questions but I'm fully switching from Plex to Emby (bought a lifetime key) and these are the few remaining ones before I feel confident about having totally set my server up the way I want.

Hi - What I'm asking is quite complicated so I'll specify my exact situation. I have multiple music albums that contain the same exact song. Is it possible to show the song in each album, but hide all but one identically named file in other lists such as the 'Songs' category? Thanks!

Is there somewhere to host community-made metadata files that you guys are aware of? Like, a website where people can share sets of customized NFO files and images - or partial set, that only selectively override what you would scrape from tvdb/tmdb? I've been customizing a fair bit of mine. Sometimes custom image sets, sometimes a whole folder, or making a series of movies into a "Show", or the like. Sometimes adding metadata to fanedits. I'd be happy to share the metadata with other people as I change my own server. Obviously different people like to organize their collections different ways, like how I don't care to separate films and shows, and prefer to use a "Show" setup for each franchise (each library is a broad genre). If Emby could handle epubs, cbrs/cbz, and PDFs, all my comics and ebooks and RPG Books would be getting loaded into Emby as well. But sadly, Emby does not do book formats - I have yet to find a good Emby-For-Ebooks to run on my media server. A random example - Nobody is going to get this same kind of setup by just using the auto-scraper (though the auto scraper was part of my process. I grabbed as much as possible with it before I started tweaking and organizing). These custom setups were rather un-shareable in Plex, but thanks to nfo files and images in folders, the same cannot be said for my custom setups in Emby. I could zip up the folder and leave out the video files, and womeone else could plug in their own videos and go. Another example: An audiobook trilogy, as part of a broad "Forgotten Realms" audiobook "TV Show" (the main page of which still looks ugly, I just started loading things into this one today). So - have you guys come across a website for sharing community made metadata sets and the like? Are there multiples worth comparing? If yes, which ones do you prefer and why? Thanks guys.

Is it possible to show anime studio instead of broadcasting service?
Weevillo posted a topic in General/Windows
Was wondering if, like with Plex, you're able to somehow show the animation studio's name instead of the broadcast company that aired it? Like for an instance Madhouse instead of Tokyo-MX. -
Is it possible to not display background image generated from selected library on start menu? I have library dedicated to explicit content and I don't want background image generated from that library to be randomly displayed on start menu.

Change default audio and subtitles language for all episodes in series
Kraszer posted a topic in QNAP
Can I batch change default audio and subtitles language for all episodes in series? If for example Spanish subtitles are default, but I want English subtitles on all episode in the series to be default, can I change that? The same goes with audio track. If I can't do that, It would be a really useful feature. -
It would be a nice for Emby as a whole. So people could develop more for it making it more feature rich and more appealing to for people to get interstate from the competition
-
I've been waiting for this feature for a while now. I'm hopeful that it will improve video quality. and a setting for audio encoding preference would be very nice as well

Like the title says, videos load fine on my android phone. But when casted it plays for 1-2 seconds, then the screen freezes but audio continues to play. Even fast forwarding the same issue arises. Is there any solution to this?

So 2020 has come to a close and Plex has issued a year review which you can read here. Jellyfin released their 10.7.0 rc1 (changelog here) which includes synchronized playback for music and overall polish to their web app. Also HDR tonemapping while transcode. Both plex and Jellyfin has third party clients (mpv-shim) that works wonderful on desktop (specially Linux). I am trying to think what is the best feature that Emby released in 2020 ? Downloading subtitle when playing something ? Some polish to android tv app? A new version of android app? I think there has been no feature where Emby implemented it first. HDR tonemapping was on Jellyfin first, Skip Intro was on plex first. Am I missing something?

Is there a way to identify the different versions on the next up page?
soultaco83 posted a topic in General/Windows
I host both the subbed version and dubbed versions of anime. These are setup as 2 separate libraries. One under a folder called Anime Subbed and the other under Anime Dubbed. When I watch an anime that is both dubbed and subbed at this time I do not see a while to differentiate between the 2 versions besides playing the file. I added dubbed to the end of every folder that has the dubbed anime as well as added [Subbed] and [Dubbed] to the end of each mkv file to see if this would make any difference. Is there anything that can be done to resolve this? I know I could possible use the metadata manager and add Dubbed and Subbed to the end of every show. If that is the option is there an easier way I can mass update the entire library maybe through the database? -
Hello everyone! I'm thinking in build a media server using emby, I wan't to have the lowest energy cost so I could leave it on all the time. MVP Idea My idea is to use a RPi 4 with 8GB of ram but I have seen in the forum that it has some decoding and encoding problems but I really don't know what that means in this context, I know the file should be encoded to be playable but my videos are already playable so I don't know why emby needs to encode them again. Also I have found this thread that says the raspberry pi could use hardware encoding and this reddit post that says the same but with a lot more steps. Future of the idea (could ignore) Also I'm thinking of use this server as a personal cloud using owncloud so I could have my media and another files on demand. I want to "stream" comics (cbr/cbz) from my server to an android app. Software Installation Install Open Media Vault or Raspibian Install Emby server on it using the Debian package The hardware I'm planing to buy Raspberry Py 4 8GB HDD Dock station The RPi could be changed for a mini PC but I'll really love to use a PI over a PC because of the cost it's less than half and the energy consumption. AWOW Mini PC Celeron 1.2 - 2.2 GHz 4 core 6GB ram 128 ssd Intel HD Graphics 500 Beelink U57 Core i5 2.7 - 3.1 GHz 2 core 8 ram 128 ssd Intel Iris Graphics 6100 My personal context: I have used Kodi for a long time and know how to manage my library. - all my video files are MKV (720p and 1080p) and most with included subtitles and dual audio, the rest have STR files. - near 3TB of multimedia + 100GB of comics files. I have an emby server running in a Linux Machine with the files previous mentioned. - Use kodi in the same machine - Use roku stick on the bedroom I'm a linux used so I'm not scared of some commands or use the terminal if needed I don't care about 4K or +60 FPS because I don't have a TV with that capabilities and don't think in buy one in a couple of years.

I am a amateur DJ who likes to record mixes during their free time in quarantine. I have decided to attempt migrating my mixes into my emby media server. I am having trouble with actually adding the mixes. I thought that adding them as an Audio Book is the best option, as it allows remembered playback position. After tagging each MP3 File as "Artist - GameGrime", "Title - Grime### - XX" and "Album - Grime Sessions" when attempting to add the folder into the server, nothing happens. They are tagged with ID3 tags and even when attempting to add these mp3 files as songs it will not work. I took a look at the file naming structure for both Music and Audiobook and it seems like I am doing it fine. Basically i have all the episode files beside each other in a Directory. I CAN play the files from the Folder view in the audio books, but the metadata, music, and playback position is not recognized. If you are able to assist me with what I should attempt doing to have the files recognized let me know.

Is there a way to show more of 100 items (complete list) by library in the WebUI?
Riggs posted a topic in General/Windows
Hi. The question is on the title, i look into the forum and can't find anything... sorry if it is in another post. "Is there a way to show more of 100 items (the complete library) in the WebUI?" I mean in ONE page I ask because my libraries are made by categories according my needs. Example Action-Thriller, Action Violence, Romance, Drama,, Animation, etc. (I just have movies at this moment) But I have more than 100 items for each one and is not handy when i'm working in the cover arts in the second page Thanks in advance. Safe To Update To New DSM 6.2.2-24922 Update 2 With Emby Server?
VincenzoSims posted a topic in Synology
Hello! I just have a question about updating my Synology NAS and if it is safe to update it to the new DSM 6.2.2-24922 update 2 with my Emby Server running on it. The DSM update was just released https://www.synology.com/en-us/releaseNote/DS918+ on the 4th of July. The only reason why I ask this is because I've updated, restarted, and shutdown my NAS is the past, and I've often gotten times where I could not run Emby after the update, restart, or shutdown was complete, but I don't know if it could have done something with this https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/73984-emby-on-synology-ds918-won’t-run-after-restart-shutdown/ that I posted a little while ago and solved the issue on. So, since my NAS just received the update as of today, despite it being released on the 4th of July, I have yet to download and install it because I want to know if it is safe to do so for Emby and my NAS so that I don't have the same problem like I did before in the past from the second link I shared above. Plus, what to do (precautions) before I download and install the update on my NAS for the Emby Server. Anything would be appreciated. Thanks! -
Hi, In Settings there is a section named "Advanced" or "Hosting". This is the mine: And this is a section of my Dashboard: The server is running in local http port (8096), there is no option to enable https in local. Nor, in my opinion, does it make sense to activate https on local connections. My question is: does the "Local https port number" option make any sense? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And another question is about remote access. I have disabled this option, why the Dasboard shows "Remote (WAN) access" if it's inactive? This leads to confusion when remote access is not activated.

I just started migrating over to Emby after Plex ruined the Roku app. After adding some of my libraries I noticed on the Emby home screen (dashboard) It created these really nice icons with images from the poster art. The problem is it didn't do that for all of the libraries (Anime is missing that). I attached a picture to show what I mean, is there a manual way to add that? I have a lot of libraries to add still I would love to know if I can add that to all the libraries.

I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but can you control the DVR from the Roku? From the downloads page, the Roku doesn't seem to be able to, but I wanted to be 100% sure. If it doesn't, is this something that is planned for the future? I'm trying to cut the cord, and I currently have a Roku to access my media library. This is important for me to know, as I might have to buy new hardware to be able to control such features.
