  1. I have setup a library with content type Home videos and photos and added JPG images to this folder. When accessing the images via the mobile app and clicking download they are being stuck in the queue with a status of "Ready to transfer" and not progressing. When trying the same action from a web browser it works fine. When trying to download other content such as movies or tv shows it is working fine; seems to just be the photos. Photo Playlists

Hello, I'm brand new to Emby. My use case is to provide a way for my parents to view family photos and videos on their TV that exist on their home network. I'm planning on going down the Roku path. I've looked at Plex, Emby and Roku's own Media Player app. Nothing I have found will allow the photos to play as a screensaver (unless on a USB drive plugged right into the Roku), which would be ideal, to turn the TV into a digital picture frame. For now, it seems I'll need to settle for slideshow capability, where the users need to go into an app and actively start displaying images. From my brief testing, Emby seems to be the best option for this, but I have some questions. I started by creating a photo and video library in Emby. The library consists of a parent folder that has subfolders with YYYYMM naming format and photos from each year and month directly in the subfolder. I also added a simple "videos" folder at the same level as the YYYYMM folders for testing purposes and put a handful of videos in there. The first thing I noticed was that I couldn't play all on the library. I got an error. I could pick play all on a folder, but that would obviously only play a slideshow of the photos in that folder. There was no shuffle option either. I see in the basic web client that there is no shuffle option showing when I am inside the library view either. There is a play all and that does play all the photos in the library. In the basic web client, I just found that the ... for a given library object in the library screen does allow a shuffle slideshow of all photos, but I either can't find that in the Roku app or it doesn't exist. As an aside, I just now created a "Mixed content" type library and gave it the same parent folder as the photo and video library. When I navigate inside that library in the web client, it does show a shuffle option. I am not at the Roku right now, so I can't test that library type to see if the Roku app will display the shuffle option. As another aside, the "Play All" function for a "Home videos & photos" type library honors the sort order set for the library. The "Play All" function for a "Mixed content" type library does not. It always starts from the same photo and I'm not sure how it picks that photo to start from. Another side... The "Play All" function when within a folder in a "Home videos & photos" type library subfolder does not honor the sort order set for the folder like it does if you are back at the first level in the library. I set it to sort on Name (assuming this is the filename or title, both of which are the filename for my test cases) and even though the display shows them sorted by name ascending or descending, the Play all starts with the same file every time. Without shuffle being available for the library on the Roku, I figured my next option would be playlists. I thought I could create various playlists of subsets of photos and see if there was a shuffle option for the playlists. If there was no shuffle option for the playlists, I thought I could automate something on the server that would shuffle the order of the files in the playlist file periodically as a work-around. I've hit a dead end with photo playlists, hence this post. I have tried to create playlists through the library browser in the web client and the metadata manger. In both screens, I am able to pick "add to playlist" from the ... menu if I select a photo folder. There is no "add to playlist" option when a photo file is selected, only if the folder it is in is selected. However, the resulting playlist isn't created properly. Here is what it looks like: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="yes"?> <Item> <Added>1/23/2019 12:00:00 AM</Added> <LockData>false</LockData> <LocalTitle>Photos from 2000</LocalTitle> <RunningTime>0</RunningTime> <Shares> <Share> <UserId>1</UserId> <CanEdit>true</CanEdit> </Share> </Shares> <PlaylistMediaType>Audio</PlaylistMediaType> </Item> It is creating an Audio playlist and none of the folders/photos are included. Questions: 1) Does Emby support creating playlists for photos (or videos)? 2) If it doesn't, if I bring in an outside playlist file with the photos listed in it, will that work properly? 3) Where is the metadata stored for the files in a library and is it possible to modify it externally (a script on the server)? This isn't critical, but I do see it has the option to include People information and other tags. I'm not even sure if the UI uses those for anything, but I am just curious. If photo playlist aren't supported either by creating in Emby or by importing external playlists, it seems my only other option is to create multiple folders instead of playlists and: a ) Either hope that the Roku app shows the shuffle option if the library type is "Mixed content" like the web client does or b ) Somehow shuffle the files inside the folders through a scheduled script that runs in the background on the server, and then use the Play all function in the UI, as a work-around. I'm not sure how Emby decides which file to play first with the "Play All", but if I can determine that, I can modify that attribute (filename, etc.). By using folders instead of playlists, I'll have duplicate files various folders are meant to show some of the same files. I can get around the storage implications by creating symlinks to the files in the various folders. I'd need to automate this for it to be practical. I guess I'd end up with my own "playlist" files that my script would use to create the folders and symlinks to the real files. Thanks for any help you can provide. David

Wrong sort order on Photo folders

Hi, I am running MediaBrowser Server (Version 3.0.5238.39498) on a Windows 8.1 box. I also use HTML, Roku, Windows and Android apps as clients. I understand the photo folder support is kind of initial and hope there will be lots of improvement on this. I have, though, a problem that seems to be very simple: the display order of the images seems to be random when I choose "sort by name" (ascending or descending). Both on the HTML, Roku, Android and Windows apps, this sort by name simply does not work. Is there any procedure/configuration I could do to solve this? Thanks
  4. As suggested by @ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. The original request is here https://emby.media/c...brary-overhaul/ If you are interested please like the post. It would be nice to including a face recognition that would allow us to sort our collection by people and give us the possibility to name them. As an example if I sear for "Mom" it would display all the pictures with my mother in the library ! This could also be done by scene (city, sea, mountain, etc.) or by place based on GPS coordinates this could automatically name the place and allow us to search or sort based on this item. I am not sure this is an easy one, maybe there are some existing piece of code that could help with this ?
  5. As suggested by @ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. The original request is here https://emby.media/c...brary-overhaul/ If you are interested please like the post. Currently we have the same sorting options in the Photo Library as the other library. I think it is not exactly in line with the content displayed here. It would be nice to add the EXIF elements in the sorting options. This would allow us to sort our pictures by date taken (regardless of file name, camera, etc.) or by camera, aperture, etc. Below is an example of the EXIF information stored in file by the camera:
  6. Is this supported by the web-app?
  7. If you are interested in this feature please like the post. Many photo enthusiast use RAW files when they take pictures; they come in a lot of different flavors and extensions. Here from WIkipedia: .3fr (Hasselblad) .ari (Arri_Alexa) .arw .srf .sr2 (Sony) .bay (Casio) .cri (Cintel) .crw .cr2 .cr3 (Canon) .cap .iiq .eip (Phase_One) .dcs .dcr .drf .k25 .kdc (Kodak) .dng (Adobe) .erf (Epson) .fff (Imacon/Hasselblad raw) .mef (Mamiya) .mdc (Minolta, Agfa) .mos (Leaf) .mrw (Minolta, Konica Minolta) .nef .nrw (Nikon) .orf (Olympus) .pef .ptx (Pentax) .pxn (Logitech) .R3D (RED Digital Cinema) .raf (Fuji) .raw .rw2 (Panasonic) .raw .rwl .dng (Leica) .rwz (Rawzor) .srw (Samsung) .x3f (Sigma) It would be a nice addition to be able to manage and display these in the Photo library ! I have checked and my Nikon .nef are not handled by Emby

    Slide show configuration

As a keen photographer, who carefully composes a shot, I would like the option to turn off the Ken Burns effect in the Android TV App slideshows, and just have the dissolve between shots. Also, I often change the aspect ratio in compositions: most are 3:2, but some slides may be square, 4:3, portrait or panoramic, so I would like them letterboxed or black barred as appropriate, rather than zoomed to fill the screen.

    Photo Library Plugins

There has to be a better way to do this. I'm using Mac OS Photos to store my primary library. I'm using 'smart' albums to collect photos with specific people & then copying the contents to 'regular' albums. I found a middleware app called 'Sync for iPhoto', which doesn't work very well, but it does export the folders & albums to the finder where Emby picks things up. I need a way to automate the process without getting into Applescript or Automator. No matter how I decide to organize things, there will always be duplicates instead of multiple references to the same image file. Can anyone point me to a list of plugins related to photo library organization?
  10. Hi, I love the android client, it's one of the reasons I bough an Android tablet; I'd love to have a Slideshow feature added to the client; a decent transition time and effects in controls will do great. I think such powerful media center with music player which is well controlled, is still missing a good slideshow player that can be used to display the photo collection in my MB library. Regards, DaN

    Photo Slideshow?

I couldn't find a way to make the Android TV app play a slideshow of photos in a directory. Is there a way? If not, I'd like this feature to be added.
  12. Hello, I was consolidating my photo library and realized that if I have multiple sources/library paths and they contain the same year or month, I get duplicate folders under the photo library when browsing. If I have three separate sources and all contain the same year or year+month, I will get three, etc. Is there a way to merge these so that in Emby I am only presented with unique years and months regardless of the source? I am looking for a setting in Emby itself and not software that will merge the file system to make multiple sources appear as one. Thanks!
  13. As suggested by @@ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. The original request is here https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63036-photo-library-overhaul/ If you are interested please like the post. It would be nice to be able to display the EXIF info on top of the photo being displayed. A bit like for the movies where we could display the data such as transcoding info, video size, framerate, etc. in a transparent box. This could contain Camera Make and model, Date photo taken, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, but also coordinates when available (which is often the case when using a smartphone), etc.
  14. As suggested by @ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. The original request is here https://emby.media/c...brary-overhaul/ If you are interested please like the post. I have noted that when I open a video from my picture folder, Emby doesn’t "understand" that it is part of the photo album and open it as a single file in the video player instead of the slide show. I think this should be seamlessly integrated into the Photo slide show. I don't know if it a bug or if it should be considered as a new feature.

    Photo Library: Photo Map

As suggested by @ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. The original request is here https://emby.media/c...brary-overhaul/ If you are interested please like the post. I always wanted to have this feature! This is something that was offered by Flickr. It would use the coordinates where the picture was taken stored in the EXIF and display the picture in the world map. I think that this was a bit specific in the past because we needed to have a GPS module tied to the camera but now every smartphone does this out of the box (without even asking your permission). Here is an example from Flickr where each point is a picture that you can display when clicking on the point:

    Photo Library Overhaul

Edit: As suggested by @ebr I have split my original request to allow better monitoring of interest and progress. I have added the link to each topic next to each Feature Request. If you are interested please discuss in each topic instead of this one. Cheers Hi everyone, I know some of the comments here have already been put forward somewhere else in the forum, but I wanted to 1) centralise them and 2) give my vision on how the Photo Library could be improved. I have raised the point on Github as well, but I thought that it would be better the open a discussion here, so everyone could contribute. https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/3436 Just a bit of background before I start; I take a lot of photos with different cameras 1 small digital camera, 1 DSLR, 2 to 3 Smartphones (don’t ask :S ) especially when I travel and sometimes I even collect photos from friends that travel with me. All of this to say that I have a sh**tload of naming conventions for the files and I can’t just put them in a folder and expect these to be organised. This is where Emby takes place as I use it to organise and watch my photos. Everything is stored by Year\Month\Event\ (an event could be one single day or e few weeks trip if I am lucky). Unfortunately, I didn’t manage to display these in an organised manner: when I open the folder then I can’t have all the files sorted by date or anything else regardless of the filename… Hopefully there is a “simple” tool that has been helping photo enthusiasts which bring me to my first point: Make EMBY read and display the EXIF information from the files https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63047-photo-library-make-emby-read-and-display-the-exif-information-from-the-photos/ This is the step one, I don’t know if this is already being used but it would be nice to be able to display the EXIF info on top of the photo being displayed. A bit like for the movies where we could display the data such as transcoding info, video size, framerate, etc. in a transparent box. This could contain Camera Make and model, Date photo taken, aperture, shutter speed, ISO, but also coordinates when available (which is often the case when using a smartphone), etc. Sort by EXIF https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63048-photo-library-sort-photos-by-exif-information/ The next step would be to add the EXIF elements in the sorting options. This would allow us to sort our pictures by date taken (regardless of file name, camera, etc.) or by camera, aperture, etc. Timeline This would also make possible to create a timeline view that would display all the photos regardless of folders by only taking into consideration the date it was taken. This has become the norm for many photo app. In my comment in github I was referring to the standard W10 photo app, but this is also true for any smartphone app, and even Plex has done this now This has been already been suggested before: https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/54947-pictures-library-filter-date-taken-timeline/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55561-feature-request-for-browsing-photos/ https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/55688-timelineview-for-pictures-and-homevideo/ Map https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63049-photo-library-photo-map/ I always wanted to have this feature! This is something that was offered by Flickr. It would use the coordinates where the picture was taken stored in the EXIF and display the picture in the world map. I think that this was a bit specific in the past because we needed to have a GPS module tied to the camera but now every smartphone does this out of the box (without even asking your permission). Here is an example from Flickr where each point is a picture that you can display when clicking on the point: Better video integration https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63050-photo-library-better-video-integration/ I have noted that when I open a video from my picture folder, Emby doesn’t understand that it is part of the photo album and open it as a single file in the video player instead of the slide show. I think this should be seamlessly integrated into the Photo slide show. Face/Place/Scene recognition https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/63051-photo-library-faceplacescene-recognition/ Let’s push it further, why not including a face recognition that would allow us to sort our collection by people or by scene (city, sea, mountain, etc.) or by place based on GPS coordinates this could automatically name the place and allow us to search or sort based on this item. Anyway, that’s what have in mind for the Photo library module. I understand that there is so much to do elsewhere but I have always considered the Photo library as a core function of Emby. Right now, it is not really usable, I think the read & display EXIF info and sort by EXIF would be a minimum, the timeline is a nice to have and the map+Face recognition is beyond that. I hope this will get some interest and that it will be considered for the future upgrades. Do not hesitate to like the post to make it more visible in the forum What do you think?

    Does slideshow work under iOS?

Hi folks sorry if this has been covered elsewhere but I have been unable to discover if slideshow should work in iOS. I have just installed an Emby server on my ubuntu server with the main aim of providing a way to view photos. I would like to view a slideshow on my iPad but the functionality just doesn't seem to be there and I have not been able to find anything which tells me if it should be there or not.(actually I haven't been able to get it to work on android either. It does work from a desktop web interface (if I force chrome on the iPad to request desktop and an actual desktop machine) Can someone please enlighten me? Is slideshow on iOS an Emby feature? Thanks.

    Picture Selection issue

Emby Team, I wanted to report an issue that has been going on for a while now and while i was hopeful that it would be resolved without having to log my request, i realized that others might be in the same boat. So, my issue is that when browsing photos from Chrome on my laptop or directly from the Emby app on my Android phone, the picture that i choose doesn't load correctly. Instead a photo will load but its the first photo that is listed in the folder. Perhaps a better example is this - I want to see the latest photos that were uploaded so, i'll sort them by date added and then descending order. I see the thumbnails of the photos and when i click on it, the first photo prior to sorting will load. I am able to move from photo to photo using the arrows on the sides but the problem is that i have like 1500 photos in this one folder so it will take forever to get to where i want to be. I can't recall when this issue started to happen but it was definitely a few revisions back. I am running the most update to data version of 3.2.60. Logs after a service restart have been uploaded for your review. Thank you!

    Photos are squashed

Hello, I created a photo library in Emby on a Windows desktop for display using a Roku connected to a TV. The photos are stored in a single folder. When I use the web app to click on the library icon, all the photos are displayed and are shown in the correct aspect ratio. However when I click on the library icon on the TV, all the photos are shown but most of them appear to be squashed. If I then click on an individual photo, it is then displayed correctly in a single view. I couldn't find any Wiki or Guide for photo library. Please help on how to get around the problem of squashed photos. Emby server 3.2.32.0 Emby's Roku App 3.0.54 Thanks sever_log.txt
  21. Hallo, I'm new to emby, may you can help me before I start again the trail and error game in my endless search for proper DLNA photo server. I run emby on my Synology NAS what has a so called photo station for photo management (inlc. some kind of meta data editing). I create some virtual albums out of my massive quantity of photos. I would like to export them as playlist and present them on my telly. Exporting might be a dream but I want to create playlist depending on the meta data in photo files. So my question, does emby read the meta data of photos and provides filter such as album or artist as for music files what could be used to filter the files. May even provide them as folders via DLNA, so I can watch only photos taken from a certain location or certain tags (like virtual album name) .
  22. Hey, here is my feature request. Wouldnt it be nice to share a complete folder of photos to your family with emby? Currently its just possible to share one photo. Anyone interested in this feature? let us know here and give us a +1 Here is the github issue: https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby/issues/2607 thx pOpY
  23. I'm trying to setup my DNLA server on my new Emby server and my nVidia Shield can see the folder, and it says 863 pictures are in the screensaver library I created, but when I click into that folder, it shows as empty. I do this with plex currently and hope to switch fully to emby, but I can't seem to figure out why the folder shows "Screensaver (863)" but then shows empty when I click on it...? There are 863 files in that folder, so it looks like it's finding it correctly, and I can see the files if I load the emby app and browse to that library. However the files are not viewable as pictures, just a photo icon of hte picture is listed... does emby not support JPG files? I'd find that pretty hard to believe

    Photo Libraries - options bug

If you have a photo library of just a single folder with no sub folders the "menu" options of select view/sort/filter do not appear If a folder has a sub directory and you enter the options are available so only appears to be a top level issue I tested this with an unset library and the menu option are available so an inconsistency between library types? It not a major issue but tought it worth pointing out windows 3.0.6060.0 win 10 pro 64 bit
  25. I'd like to share a script that I built yesterday for resizing of people photos, that potentially can take massive Mb/Gb of our HDs. With this script, you can set a max width or height and all photos larger than that will be reduced proportionally, saving diskspace and making page load easier. For now, it's interactive, so it can't be scheduled. I may fix that in the future. It requires ffmpeg and ffprobe in the server. #!/bin/bash EMBYPATH="/media/hard_disk/emby" # Write here the official Emby path MIN=300 # You can set a warning for operations smaller than usual echo -n "Would you like to set a max [W]idth or [H]eight of Emby People photos? : "; read TYPE; if [ "${TYPE,,}" == "w" ]; then TYPE="Width"; elif [ "${TYPE,,}" == "h" ]; then TYPE="Height"; else echo "Invalid type."; exit; fi echo -n "What will be the Max "$TYPE" size (in pixels) : "; read MAX; if [ ! $MAX -ge 1 ]; then echo "Invalid max size."; exit; elif [ ! $MAX -ge $MIN ]; then echo "Photos with less than $MINpx will produce bad results.
