    Codec intro tag from metadata

It would be awesome to add to the functionality of the codec intro feature so that a custom intro can play when it matches the movieDB or IMDB id it will play. So for example, I am making custom movie certificate preroll videos based off of the BBFC black cards, for me to get this to work, I have to tag each film uniquely in order for the preroll to show. It would be much smoother if the codec intro could use the movie Id as then I only need to video name to match the Movie ID which cuts the amount of work in half ie. for the Yellow Submarine Movie I could just have a video called '12105.mp4' in my custom codec intro video path. It would be useful in other use cases for example people replicating movie preroll quizzes or trivia that some cinemas do. This is probably a duplicate request, however I feel like it is unique enough to warrant it's own post.

    Web Browser Viewing

Hello, I have started ripping my collection. But as a test I wanted to see how the server will handle the playing of a movie. I ripped a standard blu ray to Container: .mp4 Bitrate: 8.6 Mbps Video Codec: H264 Audio Codec: AC3 @ 640 kbps Audio channels: 6 Sample Rate: 48000 Hz When I play the movie via my web browser the CPU jumps to 50% +/- I checked the logs and it appears to be transcoding the audio of the movie. This only happens when I watch the movie via a web browser. If I watch the movie via Roku or my phone app then the CPU hovers around 1% to 2% usage which is what is expected. I thought AC3 is a pretty standard codec ? why is it being transcoded for web browser viewing ? What is the recommended Audio Codec to use then for emby ? Mind you I value my audio quality Thank You

    Tips for Codecs and Fileformats

Hi, after some testing on different devices and with different media I noticed that almost all files transcode which reduces quality and sometimes makes playback shutter. My main Playback devices are Firefox on Windows, The Emby app for Tizen(Samsung) and the Android app. My Films and Series are all in mkv container. Most are DVD Rips in Mpeg2 Codec, some are Bluray Rips in Mpeg4 codec and I think also a few in HEVC. Even Musicvideos in H.264 seem to transcode. All transcode to H.264(AVC) if played from Firefox on Windows, Firefox on Android and emby app on Android. So is H.264(AVC) the codec to go for? It makes no difference if I disable or enable subtitles. Is there any guide or something which are the preferrable formats/codecs for which Playback device? (Video and Audio) (The goal obviously is to get as many files to directplay as possible (sorted from important to less important 1.quality, 2.speed, 3.storagespace) In the future there may be other devices like fire-TV stick, IOS Devices, maybe Xbox or Emby Theater added. At the moment there Are mostly DVD Rips and FHD Bluray Rips, but I'd also like to add 4k Bluray Rips in the future (i alread read this makes some trouble in other topics). @ @@maegibbons @@arrbee99 @@JaScoMa @@pir8radio @@AdrianW
  5. I have been using emby for about a month and so far so good. I seem to have only one weird problem. There is no audio from my android phone when playing back recorded tv shows. I have tried the android emby app and have tried the android web browser. If I download the show to the phone, no problems, plays fine. Movies and music stream fine to the phone without problem. This only happens when I try to stream recorded tv shows. When I pull up stats for nerds, the transcoding says the audio codec is AAC (direct) and Original media is AAC LC. Live TV plays without a problem as well. Again, the ONLY issue is with the Recorded TV audio, no sound at all. Any ideas of where to look for the issue? Could it be a missing codec on the phone? I have MX Player with the codecs installed on the phone as well. Thanks.
  6. I've been using Emby for years now, and I really love it! But there are something that I really struggle with every day since Atmos and DTS-X was released. Emby only detects TRUEHD and DTS-MA and not the object sound formats. I know this is not an easy task and that we all have been waiting for ffdshow to make it possible. What I want while we wait (forever?) for a fix is to make Emby Server automatically add a tag "atmos or DTS-X) to the movies with "ATMOS or DTS-X) in their file name. This would make it so much easier, and would make cinema mode play Atmos & DTS-X intros based on these tags! It would save me alot of work!
  7. @@Luke Good afternoon The first week, my users are complaining that there is a delay in the audio of some movies and series, which is only solved by stopping playing and retuning where it left off, while spending some time has to repeat the process of stopping and returning again to come back To nomal. 8. (I was counseled to post this as a feature request here, having previously posted this in the General/Windows forum) Hi everybody! I've been messing around with codec intros lately and there is some weird behavior I came across. The intros themselves work great, but I was finding that my AC3 movies kept showing the AAC intro. I tried using mkvtoolnix to change the default audio track with the same result. After more tinkering, I found that I had to change the actual track order in the MKV in order for my AC3 intro to actually show. It is like Emby uses the first audio track it finds and uses it, even if the AC3 (or DTS or whatever) track is set as default and the playback option to play the default track, regardless of language, is set. It follows then that Emby seemingly cannot play any other audio track itself without manual intervention in the play UI. In other words, I had to modify my MKV in order to make Emby do what the default audio playback setting should have already done. For people who are having the same issue, here are the sequence of mkvtoolnix commands that worked for me: mkvmerge --track-order 0:0,0:2,0:1,0:3 in.mkv -o out.mkv mkvpropedit -v out.mkv -v --edit track:2 --set track-uid=2 --edit track:3 --set track-uid=3 mkvpropedit out.mkv --edit track:a1 --set flag-default=1 --edit track:a2 --set flag-default=0 This assumes the following initial track ID order: 0 - video 1 - aac 2 - ac3/eac3 3 - sub (If I didn't set the UIDs, the audio would work but the wrong codec would be displayed under the plot summary.) I have seen the behavior both in Emby Theater (Xbox) and the regular browser-based UI. I am running Emby Server 3.2.12 on Fedora 21.

What's the codec tag for 3D?

Is there a built-in tag for 3D, and if so how do I name an intro codec video to play automatically? Or do I manually tag 3D videos with (say) "3D" and put a file such as "3d - 3D.mvc.mkv" in my Codec folder? https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Cinema-Mode Thanks
  11. Here are some Codec Intro's I've created, they were created mostly so far using Clipmaker from panzoid. These are not professional quality, just something I've started playing with. I'll keep adding more as I make them for myself. The music came with the original community creations over there, I may mess with the sound later, but for now it works. This is something I'm just playing with for now, so I can't say it will ever get much better. I'll keep hosting these as long as my server is running, and people don't mess with the server. Since these are not copyrighted if it becomes a problem I'll move them to amazon cloud or something. These are 100% free for community use. Naming is as so: h264.* will likely be the one I'm currently using. h264-*.* will be alternatives. Just rename correctly to use the one you want. ** your browser may try to stream the links, just right click and do "save link as..." or whatever works in your browser. I may some day setup a legit server or webpage, but this was quick and easy for now*. Below link won't change.** So anyway, here's the link: Codec Intros And here's a Amazon Drive link to the same files: ACD Here's the Wiki doc on how to do intros: Here And the short instructions: Create a folder (OUTSIDE your Emby libraries) and put the codec intros there. Go to Server Dashboard > Playback, then under Codec Intros put in the path to the folder you just created. Make sure the one you want to use is named correctly (h264.mkv, ac3.mp4, etc) and update your libraries in Emby. Boom, pow, you got codec intros. I'll update this as things develop. I want to pin down Luke or ebr on exactly what all the codec names it will hit on are, so I hope we can get this info here in this thread. I'll update this post with new info as I find it.

Emby won't play audio with MP3 codec

My emby has stopped playing audio from movies that have a MP3 Codec. I am running the latest version of emby and trying to play it from the online web app. I have tried playing the file on a windows 10.1 Chrome browser and a macbook chrome browser. In both situations the audio didn't play but the video did.

  14. I have a ton of FLAC that I'd like Emby to stream to my Android device and it's unclear how it's transcoding it. I'd like to be able to: Specify the audio codec used to stream audio to my device. E.g. if I have a tablet with a beefy battery, I'd like to stream Opus, which is a more efficient codec but unsupported by my device's hardware codec. If I'm on my phone I'd like to stick to a safe codec supported by my hardware like AAC or MP3. Specify the bitrate. E.g. if I'm on WiFi, send me the original. If I'm not, cut it down to 128kbps.
  15. hi there, not sure if this is the right place to post or if it should have gone to linux or another thread. I run emby Version 3.0.5675.1 on kernel 3.2.0.88 Here my issue: For some files in my library i'm missing the mediainfo of the video file (I do have the metadata, such as episode summary etc. that is not the issue). Normally, when you browse to a video file in the webclient at the bottom you will see the mediainfo. This is not the case for me, for most I do see mediainfo, but for some it shows only "container" and "path". This becomes a problem when you want emby to transcode the file as it requires this info. When I go to the metadata manager and I do a an "advanced refresh" with "add missing data" it does its thing and the missing mediainfo appears and transcoding works as well. This works recursive to one level only it seems, e.g. so if do an advanced refresh on the structure below it works: folder1 -sample.avi [mediainfo is missing] I do an advanced refresh and: folder1 -sample.avi [mediainfo is there] What does not work is and would mean to go through each folder individually (which is too much work): folder1 (e.g. tv shows) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] Also not working: folder1 (e.g. tv shows) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -subfolder2 (e.g. season) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] or also not working folder1 (e.g. tv show) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -subfolder2 (e.g. season) -subfolder3 (e.g. episodes in folders) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] So how to get emby to scan and add (missing) mediainfo in a recursive manner for all subfolders and the files therein? I have a scheduled task set to scan my library every 24 hours, but this info is not being added.

    Codec streaming transcoding question

Hi, I have LG TV LB700 with fully working dlna and streaming. Sometimes some files are streamed and some transcoded. I know why are they transcoded, because TV does not support that codec, but on this examples is codec same, and some files are streamed and some transcoded. this example is from TV Show Cosmos. Episode 101 is streamed with preferred language CZE (which is ok) Episode 102 is streamed with language ENG even if CZE audio track is default and forced Episode 103 is streamed with language ENG even if CZE audio track is default and forced Episode 104 is transcoded with language CZE even if codec is same as in previous episodes. can someone explain me what is wrong, and how to force CZE language to stream/transocode ? Attaching mkvinfo and nfo files in zip archive. straming-transcoding.zip Thank You

FR: MBT In-App Media (Codec) Options

Hi Team, I had a look through the forums to see if anyone had posted this yet and I was unable to find it, so I'm posting here. Apologies if it's already been suggested and rejected etc. As I'm working with files from multiple sources, each file has different audio stream and subtitle configurations. Whilst I have configured the default codec preferences to cater to the majority of films, one little first world problem annoyance is having to leave MBT to change the audio stream or to adjust subtitles. You can change these media options in the web-app version of MB, but the same functionality seems to be missing (or not yet added to) MBT itself. Thank you for your consideration mattispantone81
  18. Hi all, I'm currently having an issue with MB Theater when trying to play .mkv files. Whenever I try to play one it states that the MediaBrowser.UI has stopped working (See picture below). This issue is also present in Windows Media Player, but not in VLC's player. Furthermore, these files also play correctly on my computer with Windows 7 with the same settings, but not on Windows 8.1 which I have installed now. I assume this issue would also persist in MB Classic since it is present in MB Theater and WMP; however, I do not have the Media Pack for Windows 8.1 which includes WMC so I cannot check. Summary of Information: OS: Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit Processor: Intel Core i7-2720QM RAM: 6.00 GB Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GT555m and Intel HD Graphics 3000 All drivers are up to date. Server Version: 3.0.5271.29451 LAV Filters installed from MB Theater (currently left at default values) Tried disabling/enabling hardware acceleration Tried re-installing Filters and MB Server/Theater I also recently did a clean install of Windows so the only programs that really exist on my computer are system programs, internet browsers, and media browser applications. Picture of Issue: While the above picture shows on of my files I've also tested this with "test" .mkv clips too, including ones that are 720p and 1080p. I've attached the most recent log file from MB Theater below. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you! MB Theater Log.txt

    Codec question

I use MB to play media that is stored on my Windows 7 computer on my Roku box. My question is this--does MB have its own native codecs or is it using the K-lite codec pack that's installed on my computer? Joe Smart
  20. Hi MB3-Community - The Good: Since it 'tis the season to be jolly I just want to say how happy I am that MKV (video & audio) and FLAC (audio) files are playing in Windows Media Center (WMC)/MB3-Classic on my HTPC and Extender for the first time ever thanks to installing Media Browser Theater (MBT)! The Bad: However, MP4 audio to accompany perfect MP4 video still evades me in 2013 on the Extender/MBC (see here). It has always worked fine on the HTPC. Does anyone have any suggestions for LAV settings for MP4 audio for the extender....please? What I Did: With a bit of time over the holidays I thought I would install the LAV filters based on the tutorial here. Unfortunately, the server that hosted the turtorial has not been able to restore it. So I decided to install MBT with the default LAV configuration as suggested. Needless to say I was surprised when it was the solution to MBC on my extender for so many items. Nice work dev team. If anyone has any suggestions that have not been covered in the topics below please feel free to join in. NOTE: When I attempt to check the codecs that are installed by clicking on the link in the Help>About screen in Windows Media Player 12 (WMP12), it just hangs and has to be killed. This is a new situation since installing MBT/LAV. See FAQ: How do I tell which codecs are installed on my computer? Example MP4 video/audio file with a dump of Mediainfo information. The audio is reported as AAC which is supported by my Extender. 21. How do I tell which codecs are installed on my computer? If you need to see a list of the Windows Media Player components and codecs installed on your computer, do the following: On the Help menu, click About Windows Media Player. If the Help menu is not visible, click Organize, point to Layout, and then select Show menu bar. On the About Windows Media Player dialog box, click Technical Support Information. Your web browser will open a page that includes information about the related binary files, codecs, filters, plug-ins, and services installed on your computer. A technical support person might be able to use this detailed information to help you troubleshoot problems on your computer.
