  1. Hi, I'm finding it takes an awfully long time to start streaming wtv files from a windows 7 64 bit computer to a now tv box is there a known delay in streaming as it goes at an absolute crawl but using next pvr works faster and as such do people prefer using next pvr when trying to stream over the network or not?
  2. I've always run my MB Server on a Windows 7/8 machine and had a separate unRAID NAS for my media. I would like to build a setup for my parents in a single box that they would be able to move from their summer cottage to their winter condo. I'm wondering what the best way would be to do this, specifically with the OS. The hardware I had priced out was this: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/fzBgzy Obviously that SanDisk and unRAID can be knocked off the bottom. What would you guys recommend for what I'm trying to do here? What reliable/low-maint OS for the storage pool (expandable to the hardware capacity of 8 drives) and MB? I intend to use primarily Roku boxes attached to any TVs at both locations which would be controlled by Windows/Apple Tablets/Phones.

    Codec question

I use MB to play media that is stored on my Windows 7 computer on my Roku box. My question is this--does MB have its own native codecs or is it using the K-lite codec pack that's installed on my computer? Joe Smart
  4. This is relevant for both the Windows 8.1 MB app and modern Internet Explorer. I would like to note that this also applies to anyone that uses any video playback app from the Windows app store such as the third party youtube apps where video is not being played back as well. Error Description Internet Explorer Windows 8.1 MediaBrowser App If you are receiving an "Invalid source" or a "The Video failed to play." message when attempting to play an item it might be that Microsoft's Video Decoder is disabled or the AAC decoder is not set to "Microsoft". NOTE: If you are only experiencing issues with Internet Explorer make sure you have installed the WebM plugin first and test video playback. If the problem persists, continue with the instructions. Download WebM Plugin Instructions 1. Download and run Win7DSFilterTweaker (No need to install) 2. Click "Ms Codec Tweaks" 3. Uncheck the two check boxes listing "Microsoft DTV-DVD Video Decoder" as shown in the image (one for 64-bit depending on the version of Windows you may have) 4.Click "Apply & Close" and now go to "Preferred decoders" 5. Select "Microsoft" for the AAC decoder on both 32-bit and 64-bit 6. Close and restart the apps (MB/IE) to reflect the changes made and then attempt to play item. Other Possible Fixes (updated) Update Audio Drivers for your device Thanks to @@buhusky for discovering this one. In this case the Lenovo Yoga 13 tablet/laptop needed updated drivers. Update Video Drivers for your device Based on the buhusky's discovery, video drivers should be updated as well for instance the NVIDIA drivers includes the NVIDIA HD Audio which is used for HDMI pass-through for those devices that use them. Is "Enable alternative codecs in HTML5 media elements" already checked? Thanks to @@WWWestern for contributing this find.
  5. UPDATED: 2-13-14 I updated the configuration I am using...again. I was getting random missed events with the original configuration and now its working much better. Not perfect, but much better. You should be able to use this for any media player you use. You just need to point the entries which say "EDIT" to the program of your choosing. I found out the reason for not being able to capture the focus of the program. There is a plugin called "Task Create/Switch Events". This will help determine when an application has been brought to front, closed or minimized. The catch is that you need explorer to be running in order to capture "Task" events. So I am stuck capturing process events which has been a bit more tricky to get to work right. -- If anyone knows about creating python scripts and would like to create a script to make EventGhost better at this whole convoluted process, then be my guest and let us know what you come up with -- Changes 2-13-14 1. Pre-Starts 'media program' (PowerDVD, JRiver, Total Media Theater, etc..) at initial boot then after 20 seconds, the 'media program' is minimized, sent to the back and Media Browser is brought into focus. Reason I changed it to 20 seconds is during a cold boot, it takes time for the media program to be loaded, and the process I capture is created before the program shows up so adding the extra time makes EventGhost wait till the next step in the process. 2. Added a "Left Mouse Click" to certain areas. I had issues with PowerDVD loosing focus after it loaded, even though it was on top and maximized. Probably due to more processes being created. So this left click was the only way I found so far to get it back into focus. Maybe I should have EG wait 30 seconds or so to pre-load the media program to keep it in focus. 3. Cleaned up Event Tree Notice - This IS NOT meant to be a plug and play setup but with a few tweaks you should be able to get it to work. This is meant to put you on the right path for a working Work-Around. - You will need to capture the proper events specific to the program you are using. Example, Process.Destroyed.PDVDLP is actually telling me that PDVD has been sent to the rear or closed. The PDVDLP portion is PDVDLP.EXE so you will need to start up your media program, then minimize it and watch for the specific events on the left hand side column in Event Ghost which will give you realtime list of all events its monitoring. I can try and help you out if needed. ---------------------------------------------------- Updated Original Post: Soon to be a completed HOW TO. In my quest to make this work "for now" untill MBT becomes beta or further and plugins are offered, I continued to find a way to get automatic disc playback when MBT is used as windows shell (not explorer). When Explorer.exe is closed or not used, Windows looses all the AutoPlay functions we use. Instant Sheller is what I used to make MBT Windows Shell MBT Program Path (C:\Users\*UserAccount*\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Theater\System\MediaBrowser.UI.exe) Download Event Ghost Download EventGhost Tree XML (As a template) (Updated 2-13-14) When loading Event Ghost, go to "FILE" and "OPEN" then browse to EventGhost Tree.xml. I ended up capturing the system event...."System.DriveMounted.E" and "System.DriveRemoved.E" to auto start PowerDVD13 and play the disc and close PowerDVD13 when ejecting the disc. The. ".E" is the drive letter. Though I have yet to capture the correct even to get PowerDVD to close when I press the STOP button. I need to conversate with the folks at EG some more to see if someone can write a script with that. A picture of the event tree. This is setup for PowerDVD13 but can easily be adjusted for another program Picture Updated 2-13-14
  6. Hi, I'm looking for a suggestion on building (or repurposing) a machine. Most of the ones that I've read have been general purpose machines for a lot of things. I'm really just looking for a machine that will be able to run MB3 server and transcode and stream up to a max of 8 different movies at the same time. There will be other programs running but minor ones. Is Windows 7 or Windows 8.1 preferred? Does it matter? Clients 2-3 MBT or MBC on Local LAN - Direct Play - No transcoding 2 - Local LAN Roku 3 - Local Wireless IOS 1 - Remote Roku 2 - Remote IOS I know these might not all be supported at this time but I want to take into account all of this for future overhead and not have to build again. Everything will be streamed from a NAS that is connected via gigabit ethernet. Mostly Movies and TV. Movies all 1080p source and TV is 720p source. My goal is not the break the bank but I'd like to get the best quality parts I can for the money right now as I'd rather not have to upgrade it in 2 years. Thanks for the help Josh

It is also extremely easy to apply to your system, in less than a few minutes you can have a modern Media Center experience! And like all Media Center themes, Modern8 is entirely customizable so you can easily tweak Modern8 to your design tastes. It already includes some alternative artwork to try, just mix and match. Are you sure you want to sign out? View Song List Now Playing List TEXT [empty/blank string - replaced with a graphical icon on the media controls bar. This is still included with the NO STRING CHANGES VERSION] LIMITATIONS - PLEASE READ FURTHER DETAILS MAY BE FOUND IN THE CONTAINED README FILES Media Center includes most of its own sounds, however it still uses one sound which is shared by the Windows OS: the 'Default Beep' The included .reg registry files can quickly change the 'Default Beep' to the provided Xbox One sound effect found in the Modern8 Audio directory. The .reg registry files work exactly as if you were to manually change the 'Default Beep' via the Windows control panel; but obviously much faster! Much of Modern8’s text elements have been colourized white. This may be an issue for other add-ons such which contain predominantly light backgrounds. Alternative files are provided for darker text if needed. If ENGLISH is NOT your operating system language, you should choose the NON-ENGLISH version to download. Modern8 makes a few subtle language changes. As mentioned briefly above, the included ‘light’ theme currently doesn’t have the same polish as the standard theme – I have just quickly inverted the colours of the standard theme ORIGINAL WORKS I DID NOT create everything from scratch myself, details of original art sources are included in the corresponding README file Big thanks to Keef and his un8y theme, which inspired Modern8. It was a great template and an inspiration for me to make this theme. (I also grabbed a few of your icons )
