Recently my Emby server (version has been pausing and reloading some but not all video episodes in my library. I use roku, a homerun hd device for live tv and a secondary roku (older) in another room. The videos pause the loading message comes up after a few moments. I have switched rokus, replaced router and even the mobile apps do same thing. The live tv via emby freezes but the other roku apps are fine, no problems I did donwgrade one version to but same issues. Playback issues Ubuntu 18.03

This is a sort-of complicated issue. I am not sure where the issue is, but I will try to lay it out for you and give you a couple logs as well. I am running Emby Server 4.2.1 on Ubuntu 18.04.3 on the following computer: ASUS M Series M51AC Tower Core i7 4770 3.4 GHz RAM 16 GB HDD 1 TB BIOS Version: 0901 SN: XXXXXXXXXXXX Display Hardware: Command: lspci | grep VGA 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation GF119 [GeForce GT 620 OEM] (rev a1) End of computer. I am running my DVR to record on WD My Cloud 4TB (NAS) over a hard wired network from a HD HomeRun box. I watch the TV programs on several different machines, but last night I was watching the Green Bay Packers play American Football before the game was complete. I was watching on a Roku Streaming Stick+ that connects to the NAS over the wireless network. A little over 1/2 way through the game, the file stream started going through a pause and play mode about 1 second each. I am fairly sure this is because one of the following or a combination of them: the NAS couldn't handle recording the TV show while it was playing an earlier portion of the TV show Emby can't handle both recording and playback of the same show at the same time My computer hardware can't handle both Something else entirely I do have a 1 TB hard drive in the ASUS computer itself. I could change the recording path to that drive and then make a cron job that moves the files about an hour after they are recorded to the NAS. I do not know if this could help the problem? I am attaching the log that I think the problem would be in. Please let me know if it isn't and I can give you other ones as well. Thank You, Mike LaPointe ffmpeg-transcode-57ae81a2-7023-43c9-bb6d-40f89ff7142b_1.txt

How to Restore Ubuntu Server Settings

Following the information from this link <https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Wiki/wiki/Backup> I am running into either some issues or questions. I backed up the following folders from my old Emby server. config data metadata plugins Following the guide I installed on the new server and copied the files in the same locations </var/lib/emby/...> /ProgramData/config /ProgramData/plugins /ProgramData/data/collections /ProgramData/data/displaypreferences.db /ProgramData/data/users.db /ProgramData/metadata here is the command I used sudo cp –a /home/<login username>/config/. /var/lib/emby/config I had to use sudo chown –R emby:emby /folder name sudo chmod –R 755 /folder name to make sure some of the folders had the permissions needed as they were showing the local user I start the server and my users I had created are not there, nor are any of my libraries Going through the settings, some of the information appears to be in place. Did I miss something, do something wrong?

I am on on ubuntu 19.04 and this also would happened on ubuntu 18 and the previous emby servers. So its not an isolated issue or regression . Emby crashes on Ubuntu

Hi I have been using Emby for years without any problems until recently where I had a transcoding error. I have always had Emby hosted on a Windows HTPC, but for completely different reasons, I have recently given up on Windows due to yet another bug (my firewall was corrupted by a recent Windows update) and moved to Ubuntu 18.04 However, I installed Emby without a problem but could not work out why after a few hours it seemed not to be active... and indeed it had crashed. Given I had installed a whole lot of software in the process of changing OS I thought maybe something had gone wrong ... so I installed the latest beta version over the version I had. However this too crashes fairly soon after a restart. I have looked at the logs but there is nothing I can tell that has an error attached... but if you can direct me to the correct log to send then I will obviously send this. Given that on searching I see that for Ubuntu this is not such an uncommon experience ... I wonder if someone could point me to a script that will monitor and restart emby-server if it does crash? Daemontools I believe does this, but I can't seem to get this working?!! Thanks in advance! Pseudomax

    Linux Mint 18 and Emby

Hello all. I've been lurking for a short while as an unregistered user and couldn't find the answer for which I searched. So first... Turned an old gaming rig into a server with linux mint 18 because I had an USB handy that had mint on it. i5 processor 8GB of ddr3 I don't have all the specs on hand but that's the baseline of the machine. After running for so many hours, the server freezes. But this ONLY happens when the emby service is running. Doesn't matter if anyone is using emby or not. The server eventually just freezes. If I turn emby off, this doesn't seem to happen. Any ideas or anyone seen this exact issue before? If there's a specific log or error I should be looking for, sorry in advance for not knowing where it should be!

  12. The attached server crash occurs whenever browsing into my Music Library and choosing the Artists view. It happens in various scenarios reliably. i.e. Click Artists view, click specific letter. Browsing music via Albums seems OK. It would be nice to have this patched - or a local fix suggested as it kills the server every time. unhandled_f489093f-fe9d-4605-b5a2-013bdbc57d16.txt embyserver-63686811036.txt
  13. I have a Ubuntu Emby set up with LiveTV via TVHeadEnd with a Hauppauge QuadHD TV Tuner. For the most part, it worst really well, but this past weekend, I was helping my dad set up some Rokus at his house-- One new Roku Premiere+ and one older model. Both are capable of streaming the LiveTV, but when one Roku attempts to stream a channel, and the other Roku tries to stream another channel, it will supposedly change the channel on the first Roku. Is there some limitation to one LiveTV steam per account? I was going through the settings and I didn't see any way to unrestrict it if that is the case... I did verify that *I* am able to stream another live tv channel from my Roku (which is in a different house and a different Emby & Roku account). I've suggested that maybe he should try setting up an entirely separate Emby account for the other Roku and I'd send him another invite to the server, but this just seems ... odd to me.
  14. Hello, When I try to delete a file via Emby's interface (web interface or iOS interface), I get the following message : "There was an error deleting the item from Emby Server. Please check that Emby Server has write access to the media folder and try again." My question is, how do I grant write-access to Emby Server ? I guess I could use chown or chmod (although I am not very familiar with these commands), but I do not even know what Emby Server's username is, to begin with. Any help would be much appreciated. Here is my setup : Emby server version on an ubuntu machine. Most files on this server belong to a user called "debian-transmission" (and to a group with the same name) The folders containing these files belong to a user called "bill" (and to a group with the same name). Thank you !

Edit: Solved. Just had to rescan everything.
  17. My Emby server works fine, but often I have buffering issues where it takes forever for a movie to load, and sometimes it doesnt even load at all. I just see the circle wait symbol keep spinning. A lot of my movies are 1080p, but I change the transcoding to 720p with 4MB/s. It improved the playback and loading speed somewhat, but sometimes the movie just doesnt load at all. Standard definition tends to load and play much better. Skipping to certain time points in a movie almost always causes the Emby client crash, and I have to restart the box. Im looking into options to improve my setup, and identify where the bottleneck is. I run my Emby server on Ubuntu 18.04 on an Intel NUC with i5 processor, 8gb RAM. The box is connected to my WIFI router via ethernet cord. My movies are stored on a 4GB portable SSD external hard-drive (connected via USB 3.0). I always set my CPU freq to Performance (2.7ghz). My Emby client is on an X96 android box connected to my TV via HDMI. The box connects to my WIFI via the wifi 2.4 ghz. My WIFI has 5ghz option, but my android box does not. If I was to replace anything, I'd get a new box with 5GHz wifi option to increase the bandwidth as I think this is the bottleneck culprit, although, I do sometimes get the same buffering issues when playing from my web browser on my laptop, which is connected by ethernet cord to the router, so the wireless transmission may not be the only issue. But for the time being, are there options in in the transcoding that I can utilize to speed up to the data transfer? - My NUC box has Intel Iris Plus Graphics 640. What hardware acceleration options would I have? - Would increasing Transcoding thread count help? - Would changing the H.264 encoding preset help? - Are there any options on my Android client that I can tinker with to increase loading speed and fix buffering issues?
  18. The attached file is the emby log, no ffmpeg log is created from this. The error shown on the client is that no playback streams are available. The emby user that the process runs under does have access to ffmpeg and the video files in question. Any ideas? embyserver.txt
  19. I installed emby in Ubuntu Bionic Beaver. Installation page for Live TV doesn't detect the usb tv tuner. Hauppauge WinTV-HVR-955Q I know it works because Kaffeine is running it fine. . . Anything you can suggest to get this device to run on the Media Server? -K

  21. I've been holding off on upgrading Emby, hoping that some day the repo will be fixed. Everything was working fine until a few days ago when I began to get an error when accessing app.emby.media. I can't access my Emby server from app.media.emby until I upgrade according to the message. Is there a workaround for this? I've ran a whole lot of Linux servers over the years and the current method Emby is using, unzipping a file you download every update, is a really poor practice. It can lead to a total package mess. Is there any way to get this update through a managed repository (the proper way of doing things!) or do I just have to suck it up, go against best Linux practices and try to do a totally messy upgrade and hope my Emby server comes out intact on the other side? Thanks.

Emby server Server backup plugin Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS Client: Firefox Quantum 62.0 (64-bit) The story so far: Fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 Download and install Emby server from https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby.Releases/releases/download/ Enter my Premier subscriber key Install the backup plugin Restore my backups from backups.tar.gz from old system, into /home/emby/emby-backups Launch Emby, launch backup plugin. No luck. Just in case, make sure permissions are in place, even though no specific errors in logs: sudo chmod -R 755 /home/emby/ sudo chown -R emby:emby /home/emby/ Launch Emby, launch backup plugin Browse to any backup Result: backup screen hangs with loading indicator Log files: logs indicate that plugin is reaching endpoint ok, and browsing the JSON at http://localhost:8096/emby/MBBackup/Backups correctly displays restorable content of backup files (time, date, profile, users, etc). It seems like just the UI is hanging for some reason? Most recent log attached. Unfortunately the old server was destroyed and no longer exists, only the archived backups. embyserver.txt
  24. Around a week ago I installed Emby on my Kubuntu PC. I didn't understand Emby and thought that it would be an application. Instead it turned my machine into a Multimedia Server. So cool once it's set up it's always on and no maintenance. My needs are basic. All I want to do is to have a file linked to Emby and any movie in that file will stream to the devices on my home network. I do not want to stream remote for security purposes. I followed the install instructions on the internet where I downloaded the file and it was really easy. I did have trouble getting it connected to my Fire stick because the port was closed in my software firewall. I opened port I think it's 8095 in my software Firewall and then no problem hooking into the Amazon Fire stick. Not an Emby problem. Around a week later I bought a Roku Express for my daughter and installed in her TV. Emby wouldn't connect. I waited a few days and my router choked and I had to reboot it. A little later I went back to try to get Emby working and to my surprise, Wallah the Roku recognized and connected to the server with no prodding. Seemed my router needed to be reset. Lesson learned if I ever have trouble connecting a new device to Emby reset the router. I proceeded to install on my Android Phone and again it was brainless. It just recognized and entered Emby Server with no prodding. So fast it made my head spin. Emby is fantastic on Linux Kubuntu/Ubuntu. Basically I hooked a file up to synchronize and everything I copy to that file shows up on my devices to be streamed. It's running in the background no maintenance required. Also no glitches waking up from sleep either. On the Roku it's running fast. So anyway If you have Kubuntu or Ubuntu and want to simply use Emby to stream movies within your home network I recommend it highly. BTW the resolution of the movies look great.

New users can't transcode fast enough

I'm running - Ubuntu 16.04.5 - Emby Server Version - Dual Xeons X5660 @ 2.80GHz - 96 GB RAM The first user I created and the one I tied to Emby premier (if that matters), can transcode a 4k 30 FPS, video no problem. If I switch users in the same browser session, same tab (Chrome or Firefox) the video plays at 12-17 fps. I've done a side by side comparison of the users with the working user and everything is the same - I even tried the "user can manage server" setting. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening. Can anyone help me out here? What more info is needed?
