  1. Utking

    Unseekable Streams.

Hi all! I'm having some problems with Emby server, I'm running 3.0.5724.4. When playing via the web, or on Android, i cant seem to skip or seek in videos. All it says is unseekable stream:S It's been a while since i used emby now, but as far as i recall i always had the ability to to this earlier, it just took some time before the stream started again. Any ideas?
  2. First of all, let me say that I searched the forum and haven't found anything that covers this topic. I have a few questions regarding the setup of Emby together with Kodi when they are running on the same machine, to be precise, a headless Ubuntu-based HTPC. I scanned my video files to Emby, they show up just fine on the server side. Emby fetches all the artwork properly, including extrafanart and extrathumbs. I use the Kodi addon (1.1.53) and want to get direct playback running as smooth as possible. As said, Kodi runs on the same device with the same user and same filesystem access. But now a few questions arise: 1. Do I need the option to use local paths instead of Emby redirection enabled? When I do not enable that option, Kodi does not see the extrathumbs Emby provides because the skin needs the actual filepath to see them. 2. Will a path substitution solve the issue mentioned above? My video files are stored under /media/Media, will a substitution /media/Media -> /media/Media make a difference? 3. And, next big issue: I know that Kodi handles music different from the video files. How will path substitution and direct playback work here? How does the add-on provide the music cdart to Kodi? Will it set the item.art(discart) property? Again, the problem is that the skin I use right now needs the actual filename path for cdart, extrafanart and extrathumb. It would not be a big problem to change the skin a little, but right now I just don't now how because I don't know what artwork is provided to the music.db directly and which not.

    Old movie gets transcoded

    Hi, Some movies are being transcoded by Emby when playing to a Roku3. Problem is these same movies were not transcoded when playing to this same Roku some time ago. Roku is hooked to a receiver and, thus, has DD/DTS passthrough enabled. Passthru works on various movies when they get directly played. Maximum bitrate on Roku is set to 30. This is the mediainfo of one of these movies: General Unique ID : 176864499973909610004582734147649503017 (0x850EDD18D0677F98B96AA186F8F37F29) Complete name : \\W-EDUARDO-WEI\Videos\Filmes\The Avengers (2012)\The Avengers (2012).mkv Format : Matroska Format version : Version 2 File size : 18.3 GiB Duration : 2h 22mn Overall bit rate : 18.3 Mbps Encoded date : UTC 2014-11-11 21:35:05 Writing application : mkvmerge v5.6.0 ('Kenya Kane') built on May 27 2012 16:44:04 Writing library : libebml v1.2.3 + libmatroska v1.3.0 Video ID : 1 Format : AVC Format/Info : Advanced Video Codec Format profile : High@L5 Format settings, CABAC : Yes Format settings, ReFrames : 5 frames Muxing mode : Header stripping Codec ID : V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC Duration : 2h 22mn Bit rate : 17.0 Mbps Width : 1 920 pixels Height : 1 080 pixels Display aspect ratio : 16:9 Frame rate mode : Constant Frame rate : 23.976 fps Color space : YUV Chroma subsampling : 4:2:0 Bit depth : 8 bits Scan type : Progressive Bits/(Pixel*Frame) : 0.342 Stream size : 16.4 GiB (90%) Title : The Avengers (2012) Writing library : x264 core 120 Encoding settings : cabac=1 / ref=5 / deblock=1:0:0 / analyse=0x3:0x113 / me=hex / subme=7 / psy=1 / psy_rd=1.00:0.00 / mixed_ref=1 / me_range=16 / chroma_me=1 / trellis=1 / 8x8dct=1 / cqm=0 / deadzone=21,11 / fast_pskip=1 / chroma_qp_offset=-2 / threads=12 / sliced_threads=0 / nr=0 / decimate=1 / interlaced=0 / bluray_compat=0 / constrained_intra=0 / bframes=5 / b_pyramid=2 / b_adapt=2 / b_bias=0 / direct=1 / weightb=1 / open_gop=0 / weightp=2 / keyint=240 / keyint_min=24 / scenecut=40 / intra_refresh=0 / rc_lookahead=50 / rc=abr / mbtree=1 / bitrate=17000 / ratetol=1.0 / qcomp=0.60 / qpmin=3 / qpmax=69 / qpstep=4 / ip_ratio=1.40 / aq=1:1.00 Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Color range : Limited Color primaries : BT.709 Transfer characteristics : BT.709 Matrix coefficients : BT.709 Audio ID : 2 Format : DTS Format/Info : Digital Theater Systems Mode : 16 Format settings, Endianness : Big Muxing mode : Header stripping Codec ID : A_DTS Duration : 2h 22mn Bit rate mode : Constant Bit rate : 1 509 Kbps Channel(s) : 6 channels Channel positions : Front: L C R, Side: L R, LFE Sampling rate : 48.0 KHz Bit depth : 24 bits Compression mode : Lossy Delay relative to video : 11ms Stream size : 1.51 GiB (8%) Title : English Language : English Default : Yes Forced : No Text ID : 3 Format : UTF-8 Codec ID : S_TEXT/UTF8 Codec ID/Info : UTF-8 Plain Text Title : Português Language : Portuguese Default : No Forced : No Is there other config to check? Transcoding profiles

Hello, It would be nice to have the ability to set up transcoding profiles per device (ie to set 480p on cellular, 1080p on fixed, mp3 on cellular, etc). Has this already been asked for ? Alternatively, is there anyplace where the transcoding logic is exposed ? Thks
  5. I'm using a Nexus Player for my home theater streaming. So far, recorded content plays back without issue (at least everything I've played so far) The problem I'm running into is with Live TV. I have an HDHomerun Extend and it's outputting H264 video and AC3 audio. Anything Live TV-wise is wanting to transcode regardless of any setting in the HDHomerun. If I live stream to my Nexus 6 (also on 6.0), it will Direct Play without a need to transcode anything on my local WiFi. It seems if the Nexus 6 can play directly, why can't the Nexus Player? Am I missing a setting somewhere, or does the Nexus Player not support what my Nexus 6 does? This issue was also present for Lollipop on the Nexus Player. If you need logs, I'll gladly send them in. Thanks.
  6. hi there, not sure if this is the right place to post or if it should have gone to linux or another thread. I run emby Version 3.0.5675.1 on kernel 3.2.0.88 Here my issue: For some files in my library i'm missing the mediainfo of the video file (I do have the metadata, such as episode summary etc. that is not the issue). Normally, when you browse to a video file in the webclient at the bottom you will see the mediainfo. This is not the case for me, for most I do see mediainfo, but for some it shows only "container" and "path". This becomes a problem when you want emby to transcode the file as it requires this info. When I go to the metadata manager and I do a an "advanced refresh" with "add missing data" it does its thing and the missing mediainfo appears and transcoding works as well. This works recursive to one level only it seems, e.g. so if do an advanced refresh on the structure below it works: folder1 -sample.avi [mediainfo is missing] I do an advanced refresh and: folder1 -sample.avi [mediainfo is there] What does not work is and would mean to go through each folder individually (which is too much work): folder1 (e.g. tv shows) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] Also not working: folder1 (e.g. tv shows) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -subfolder2 (e.g. season) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] or also not working folder1 (e.g. tv show) -subfolder1 (e.g. show1) -subfolder2 (e.g. season) -subfolder3 (e.g. episodes in folders) -sample.avi (e.g. episode) [mediainfo missing] So how to get emby to scan and add (missing) mediainfo in a recursive manner for all subfolders and the files therein? I have a scheduled task set to scan my library every 24 hours, but this info is not being added.

    Transkodierung

Hallo zusammen!
  8. HI, I have a curious question. My synology NAS is offline due to failed HDD, so I setup a server2 user account on my windows office PC, and use this as the server for a smaller selection of movies and tv shows that are backed up on this pc to my main htpc rig in the living room. I shut down the emby server on my htpc and let emby connect to the office pc.These are both on the same gigabit lan. The htpc when using the emby server would be the local host and all material was situated on my synology nas, would direct stream everything. However, now while using the server of the office pc, and it's "server2" user account, all files are being transcoded before being received via the htpc. Is there a setting I am missing, or should I set up the "server2" user account on the htpc, and let it act as server and client with the office pc being the "dumb" server? Anybody understand what I am trying to say...kind of confusing isn't it? Just wanting to know if I set it up ass backwards...boy I miss my NAS....anybody got a spare 5tb hdd so I can rebuild my raid? Cheers
  9. Hi Emby Gods, I have an issue that is completely preventing me to switch to Emby as my main media server. I've had issues with streaming/transcoding while on the local network that I have solved by setting the Transcoding Quality Preference to "Auto". The bigger problem now is that 95% of the time, I am not able to stream/transcode outside of the local network. The ffmpeg will not even start transcoding at all (when whatching the task manager). All the network settings are OK since I have total access to everything from outside, only that when I start playback, I will either get nothing (video never starts) or the app will stop trying to play and give me the "Video Error: There was an error playing the video". It did work a couple times. Now, I have found out that Emby will successfully start transcoding and streaming outside of the LAN when the Transcoding Quality Prefenrece is NOT set to Auto. For certain movies, it will work with "Higher Speed", but for others, it will require "Higher Quality". It seems that "Higher Quality" gives the best results when trying to stream outside LAN but it will not work inside LAN. I will appreciate all help that you can provide. Tell me if you need any logs Thanks! 3psus
  10. Hi, When I start playback on either our Roku3 or Android tablets, the server cpu is running at 100%. I was expecting / hoping for a lot less. The server has an i7-4790T so whilst not the most powerful chip, it's no slouch either, and it's running Windows Server 2012 R2. There are Transcoding settings in the Server Dashboard, under Playback, but these make no difference. I looked through the log that gets produced, and what I think is happening is that the server is transcoding the whole file as quickly as it can(it finished after about 20 minutes - the CPU usage is down close to zero), rather than just transcoding as it is needed. Is my above theory correct? If so, is there a way to get it to transcode less aggressively? (essentially can the ffmpeg process that gets launched be restricted to less cores? or be told to go slower?) Also what happens when two people try to watch at once? does the 2nd have to wait for the server to get through to the end of the 1st file?
  11. Hi, Looking for some help Emby Server Version 3.0.5675.1 O/S WinServer 2012 R2 E Issue : playback stalls after a while (say 10 minutes) you get to watch 5-10 second clips, then a pause, then the next clip. Everything had been fine, until I shut the system down for a couple of weeks at the beginning of July, and it hasn't worked since Specifically, it stutters on Android and Web on windows PC, and the new Kodi addon just says 'opening stream', but never plays anything (previously it used to directly play the file). I suspect multiple problems At this point, I'm supposed to attach a server log file, but the one for today is already >10MB, so will need to cut and paste lines. Looking at it, the bulk of it is two lines repeated 2015-07-23 13:11:09.8799 Info - App: HttpClientManager POST: http://192.168.1.102:1400/MediaRenderer/RenderingControl/Control 2015-07-23 13:11:12.2548 Info - App: HttpClientManager POST: http://192.168.1.72:1400/MediaRenderer/RenderingControl/Control the two IP address are two Sonos Zone players (there are five in total, the other three never appear in the list). I'm not sure if this is a red herring (as far the suttering / transcoding issue goes) but I think it indicates something that needs fixing Less often, you get the following error 2015-07-23 11:13:29.7802 Error - UpnpContentDirectory: Error processing control request *** Error Report *** Version: 3.0.5675.1 Command line: C:\Users\NetAdmin\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\system\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe -service Operating system: Microsoft Windows NT 6.2.9200.0 Processor count: 8 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: False Program data path: C:\Users\NetAdmin\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server Application Path: C:\Users\NetAdmin\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\system\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe One or more errors occurred. 12. Hi, I have LG TV LB700 with fully working dlna and streaming. Sometimes some files are streamed and some transcoded. I know why are they transcoded, because TV does not support that codec, but on this examples is codec same, and some files are streamed and some transcoded. this example is from TV Show Cosmos. Episode 101 is streamed with preferred language CZE (which is ok) Episode 102 is streamed with language ENG even if CZE audio track is default and forced Episode 103 is streamed with language ENG even if CZE audio track is default and forced Episode 104 is transcoded with language CZE even if codec is same as in previous episodes. can someone explain me what is wrong, and how to force CZE language to stream/transocode ? Attaching mkvinfo and nfo files in zip archive. straming-transcoding.zip Thank You
  13. First of all, thanks for this great software!! Looked at Media Browser quite a long time ago but I continued using plex. Now I installed emby and I really prefer its concept. I'm using a pretty slow windows server, so a performance orientated transcoding is really important for me. When I play a mkv-H264 video on the web client (latest chrome) it's transcoded to vp8 and thereby isn't watchable at all. The same video played on Chromecast (via the emby server) or played on the plex webinterface (via the plex server) stays H264. What is the reason behind this. Does this happen by design, caused by a misconfiguration or is it just a known issue.
  14. Hi All, Currently running: Media Browser Server: 3.0.5641.4 CPU: Q8200 RAM: 6Gb Video: Nvidia GTX 650 Ti Media storage: 6TB NAS unit accessable via network smb share over ethernet on same lan as media server All was running beautifully up until a few months ago. I run the web client (chrome) on my media server. Now i cant play any media within an acceptable time frame. The player splash screen sits there and my box appears to 'transcode' for >= 30mins for a 45min episode of Breaking Bad or True Detective or whatever. Throttling is on (have tried off) and quality set to auto. I know the system is getting a bit old but this didnt happen before. I can play over VLC no problem (albeit that is direct) and my media server WILL transcode fine to the ipad and android in the home!? Any thoughts would be appreciated!? Transcription log attached. Thanks, TJ transcode-ad47b450-ba7e-4fed-9f46-931c67ef71ce.zip
  15. Hello, I am in the process of moving from Plex to MediaBrowser, and have noticed that the server load when transcoding is rather extreme. Server: MediaBrowser Server Version 3.0.5518.3 Hardware: Mac Mini (2011) with 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB RAM running OSX 10.9.5 Client: Nexus 7 (Android 5.0.2) running MediaBrowser version 2.2.03 Network: Same subnet, Nexus 2 meters away from high speed access point with 1GE link to MacMini Symptom: ffmpeg using 372% CPU, Mac Mini getting warm, fan going full speed. The file being transcoded is as follows. Have not changed any default transcode settings. Server set to "Auto". Codec: H264 Profile: High Level: 41 Resolution:1920x1080 Aspect ratio:16:9 Anamorphic: No Interlaced: No Framerate: 23.97602 Bitrate: 10732 kbps Bit depth: 8 bit Pixel format: yuv420p Ref frames: 4 CABAC: Yes Pictures of system load: While transcoding, extreme load: After transcoding, normal load: As you can see it's a huge difference. I have run Plex Media Server for a few years, and it manages to transcode multiple sessions to multiple different clients without getting the same extreme load. Is this due to a horrible misconfiguration on my end, or a bug in how MediaBrowserServer on OSX uses ffmpeg? Attached is what I presume to be the correct transcode log. Please advise - this is my first experience with Media Server, and first day of using it, and as I didn't find this referenced anywhere, I figured this would probably be the place to ask. Thanks much in advance! transcode.log

    Transcode audio only

Can we add a video pass thru option to the transcode settings? I have a roku directly connected to a TV that doesnt support DTS/DD, which unfortunately means that everything that doesnt have 2 channel audio is being transcoded. Which is virtually everything, putting my server under massive strain. If we had video pass thru and the transcoder was only downmixing the audio then I wouldnt need to use folder sync to pre-transcode everything (which is great having the option, but a bit painful).
  17. Emby Version 3.0.5621.4 I've noticed that any of my MKV/MP4/AVI files that have AAC audio seem to be transcoding when I play them on my xbox one. I find this odd because it's an AAC codec being transcoded back into AAC but with out 5.1 output. I thought the xbox one handles aac audio. I'm using default profiles for the server. Is this just a bug or is there something I need to fix? These shouldn't need transcoding, right? I've attached two of my logs from transcodes I don't believe should be transcoding at all. The second is of an MP4 file not an MKV however if I put it into an MKV container and attempt to play it on the xbox one, it will transcode it. avi file.txt mp4 file.txt

    Edit - Atmos transcodes fail

Alright, so I mentioned this previously but never logged or created a topic for it @@Luke, normally I'd just throw this into the server support area, and tagged onto someone else's atmos problem topic there a couple weeks ago when I first saw this thinking it was a server issue. I've played a few atmos transcodes back in both the android and web client, so I no longer think this is a server specific issue I can't make any heads or tails how this is Emby for Kodi related, but here is my OpenElec log http://xbmclogs.com/p9xw0gztk Emby for Kodi has a lot of log spew even with logging turned off ;( I did a reboot and played one of my Atmos blu-rays (American Sniper) but I can't find it logged anywhere. Instead there is still a weeks worth of logging it looks like (to me). I may have to do a hard reset to get the log manageable unless anyone knows any log cleanup secrets in OE I went ahead and attached a failed Atmos transcode log and a successful TrueHD transcode log (for good measure) Both were using Emby for Kodi http transcoding Fortunately the atmos list is small http://www.dolby.com/us/en/experience/dolby-atmos/bluray-and-streaming.html but I can't understand why these are failing only in this specific client Atmos fail.txt TrueHD success.txt

    Transcoding CPU usage

I am seeing a huge difference in CPU usage when I compare Plex Media Server with Media Browser. When I play the same movie from the same device from the same server I can see Plex using very little CPU capacity (spikes between 10 and 60 percent) and after a few seconds even less than 5%. When I play this movie using Media Browser the CPU usage is constantly higher than 80% and sometimes drops for a few seconds lower (due to the throttling setting I guess). The difference is so significant that I am asking myself if I am doing something wrong with Media Browser. Does anyone have an explanation for this? regards, David
  20. Part One: I have no problems with 720, but when it comes to 1080 it seems to play fine just the video / audio always falls out of sync after it rebuffers or something stops. Is this a Nvidia Shield Issue, Server CPU issue or transcoding issue, like setting? Note, when the playback stopped around 120 second I looked at the server and no CPU was being used. I think the transcoding stopped. 21. Hi, Having trouble getting a mkv rip to play in the web client, or anything else that transcodes. Movie was ripped to mkv yesterday with DVDFab and regardless of it having 3D in a description in one of the log files it is not a 3D movie. Originally ripped the 2D disc yesterday and had the same issue so I retried it with the 3D ISO and "converted" it to 2D with DVDFab. I am positive that I tried another rip yesterday that did the same thing but at this moment I cannot find it, I will keep looking. I cleared out my logs and restarted the server and then played the mkv through the web client. Thanks CrashKelly EDIT: The mkv plays fine via direct play EDIT 2: re-ripped to mkv and removed the TRUEHD 7.1 track. mkv now has AC3 audio and transcodes just fine. server-63547835944.txt transcode-851a001f-5342-4b0c-b437-abd5eef7530c.txt transcode-dacf43d1-a691-4cf2-8859-04f4d6812a64.txt server-63547818300.txt

  23. Hi guys, I'd really like to upgrade my rather old Kodi HTPC setup by replacing the backend with Mediabrowser. I like the possibility to watch on multiple devices in my home network without keeping media databases in sync. So what I did was installing Mediabrowser on my Ubuntu server (HP N36L) for testing before buying a faster server (for transcoding). I am running into the problem that I cannot playback any content without transcoding being in place. The library is set up using linux local paths ( /media/Storage/movies ). I configured path substitution so that the clients can access the files directly. This is the point where I am not sure why transcoding is still in place. I tried the following configurations for substitution None of these worked for the web client on my Macbook (using Google Chrome), since I still see the bandwidth settings in the top right corner. All the options also didn't work for a Windows 7 client using Firefox. I did not test the following clients yet. Kodi, iPhone, iPad. My server can provide access to the media files via NFS, AFP or SMB. Can anyone help me troubleshoot the setup so I can playback with direct file access? Is it even possible that devices with different OS can playback with direct file access at the same time? Regards, Bondfreak
  24. Hi, first off extremely nice work. I have not found any really serious issues. Overview: In short, I cannot correctly; play a video, stop/resume and then stop/resume again. Detail: - Play Vid with transcoding (works perfectly) - Stop Playback after $X Minutes and then hit resume (resumes from correct position, but the time counter starts at zero again) - watch $Y more Minutes then stop playback again - now i only get the option to resume from $Y minutes, not ($X + $Y) as would be expected. Please let me know if I can provide any further info, and thanks in advance for any insights.
  25. Looking for some advice. My setup is laptop (Windows 7 64-bit) with the server software (mbs not compatible with my NAS at this time). This is connected wirelessly to my readynas NV+ v2, which is wired to the internet. My client are: NowTV box in front room, Samsung Smart TV in the bedroom and MB android app on phone. I am unable to directly connect my laptop to the NAS. I get a fair bit of buffering, especially with movies, and was thinking about possibly converting all my media to a format that will be recognised by all my clients so that I can direct play. Firstly, are there any settings (on the nas/mbs/NowTV) anyone can recommend that may help reduce buffering Secondly, what format will all my clients be able to direct play - I would rather not go down this route as it will take forever to convert all my media, but know that I may have no choice in the end Thanks for any help/info you can give me
