    Issues with subtitles

There are some issues with the subtitles I'd like your thoughts on. I have not been doing any extensive testing, but it shall seem the issue at least arises during playback using Chrome webrowser. Quick, rough testing done with Emby Android App on a couple of files, reveal the issue seems not appear there. I have only done very basic preliminary testing, but it shall seem that SRT subtitles embedded into an MKV container does not function the way one would expect it to. I am referring to browser Chrome and Emby 3.0.5781.8. I have in my profile set English subtitles to be chosen during playback. During testing on at the very least 5 video files, I encounter more than one issue. First, during video playback, the english subtitles are applied as expected, but they are applied twice; meaning, each line of subtitle is repeated twice. That is, the subtitles are duplicated. Line 1 would be repeated on line 2 or line 1 and 2 would be repeated on line 3 and 4. If i weren't so damned lazy, I'd provide a picture of how it looks. Furthermore, it would seem that changing the subtitle language doesn't work with the embedded SRT subs. That is, I change the language via the menu in Chrome, but the expected change is not applied. It would appear there's no way to change them at all. Additionally and although it's been stated, it will seem that files with embedded subtitles are processed significantly slower than those files who are without subs. I suppose I am wondering whether Emby Team has planned an overhaul on the system that takes care of embedded subtitles. I acknowledge that my testing has been very limited and there are things I could have missed, but the issue is so dominant that I'll have to find ways to make it more performance and user friendly. Could my options be of looking into ways to exttract subs from the mkv and make them external? Or would you know if the issue arise due to the MKV file itself containing embedded subtitles? Thank you for your consideration, Thomas
  2. Hi there! First of all, congratulations on Emby. It's an amazing piece of software. That being said, I'm having a little annoying problem: I can't get the external subtitles in Kodi on OpenELEC (Raspberry Pi) via DLNA to work. I've tried everything I could. The weird thing is that the subtitles work just fine in Kodi in the same machine where I run Emby Server, wich means, I believe, the subtitles are ok. It makes me think it's something in the DLNA process, but what do I know? Better ask the specialists, right? Hahaha I've also tried to send them to my Sony SmarTV and had no luck either. Any help would be very welcome. Thank you.

    Soutitrage Français - addic7ed ?

Bonjour, Je viens d'installer emby, et regarde comment récupérer les sous-titres de manière automatique. Si vous connaissez une solution, plugin ou soft externe ... Cordialement, Laurent
  4. App Description: Server Don't know the situation in other countries, but most videos in my collection have all their subs inside the e.g. mkv. Thanks to the help from @@Luke and @@ebr I finally got a clue that in Emby external subs are much more handy than the internal because they don't need to be extracted before playback starting. I'm referring to this two threads: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/21988-default-to-external-subtitle/ http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/23769-problem-with-videos-with-subtitle/ The problem: Most internal forced subs are also flagged as default. So even when the user exports internal subs, Emby still prefers the internal one flagged default and forced and the Auto subtitle settings in preferences become obsolete. This leads again to the long period until the movie starts because of the sub extracting process. Only but very long and uncomfortable solution would be remuxing all movies with forced subs (for me around 400, pretty sure a lot people have also a big amount of movies like that). Request: Is a setting possible to prefer external over internal subs or a switch to ignore internal subs if external is present? The Goal: Using files with exported subs without remux them all or manually choose when the stream already runs, because other tools handle internal subs well and like this we have a maximum compability for different usages of the files.
  5. I configured the Server to search for subtitles in my language (Dutch, Flemish). This is working fine, but Emby adds the ".dut" to the srt-file. According to ISO 3166 and ISO 639-1 the more general option should be ".nl". I have the rest of my media configured with the ".nl" addition. To avoid discussions, I propose to make subtitle addition configurable. So I can set it to "nl" manually. This way everybody can be happy.

    No subtitles found?

*solved* I am searching for subtitles for Trainwreck, a popular film but nothing found. What am I doing wrong Regards
  7. Hi all, I'm continuing this from another thread that was veering a bit off-topic and I hope I'm in the right forum. Basically the problem is this: I need to get the MB-C interface working 100% without keyboard and mouse. I had it about 90% there but there was one huge problem: Subtitles. I have a number of foreign-language films that I prefer to watch in the native language with English subs. Windows Media Center really has no way to handle this, so it was suggested that I try MPC-HC. While MPC-HC is more feature rich, I'm having some extreme problems that are making it impossible to use. Mouse pointer is always on the screen When I press STOP the player stops but doesn't go back to MB-Classic (just sits there with a black screen and the word STOPPED in the corner). Subtitles in .ISO files are not being recognized (i.e. the option for subtitles is greyed out). Subtitles in MPC-HC do work with .MKV, but not .ISO. Since my wife and I need to invoke this feature often, having subtitles accessible by remote is mission critical for us. And while I can invoke them with the keyboard, I prefer to keep both it and the mouse locked up unless I'm doing config or maintenance on the system--and even then, I prefer to do that via remote from another PC. I know a lot of people are using the MPC-HC/WB-C combination so I'm sure this is old-hat to some on here. I've got a full day of tinkering into this already and every change I make seems to be a dead end. Can all three of these problems be solved? Thanks to all. And if this is the wrong forum or Website, if anybody can point me to the right place I'd also be mightly greatful. Please and Thanks!

Subtitles out of sync on transcoded media

I have two Rokus 3 both running version 1.78. One is connected to a 7.1 amp and it accordingly passes DTS/AC3 streams to the amp. It, thus exhibits a "direct play" on almost all MKVs. The second one is directly connected to a TV set. It transcodes the same MKVs that the other plays directly. As they are both configured to the maximum 20MHz bitstream I regard this transcoding relates to the sound stream. Problem is that subtitles "arrive too early" on this second Roku. The same movies that shows correct subtitle sync on the first Roku, show them two seconds early on this device. I got the impression server gets delayed by initiating the transcode process but the subtitles are served to the device just as the movie were not transcoded. I made some additional tests playing/transcoding the same movies to both the web and android clients but was unable to reproduce the behavior. Though I am not certain, It seems this behavior started with the last app update (1.78). Server version is 3.0.5490.2 Thanks for any advice,
  9. Hi theres, thanks for Emby im enjoy it so much since i can watch my videos with subs, im not a native english speaker (jus read the way i writte ) and i always use subs, it will be so nice if you can add this feature (at least increase font size). I know you are bussy so thanks for reading me
  10. Hi! Please, could you add the BRAZILIAN PORTUGUESE (PT-BR) language option for subtitles download? Brazilian Portuguese is *VERY* different from regular Portuguese - the only language available for sub download right now in MediaBrowser3 Server. Opensubtitles has distinct sections for both languages (Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese). Until the Brazilian Portuguese option is added, the download subtitles feature is unusable for us Brazilians for now... Thanks for the great work so far! Dan
  11. I have a strange problem or a big hole in my knowledge. I use Emby and now have it installed on two Samsung smart-tv D-series and 1 F-series. I also use it as mediabrowser plugin on a htpc and Emby Theater on a laptop. Subtitles works on the D-series and on the Emby for WMC but not on the F-series or on Emby standalone. For same reason Emby recently stopped working on the F-series (I think Emby server changed ip-adress so i removed and istalled Emby again but subtitles in mkv:s or external .srt dont work any more. When i first installed Emby on the F-series I had problem to get subtitles to show until I found out I needed to press tools and select transcoding for the subtitles to work. In the fresh installed version of Emby when i press tools, I can´t select transcoding anymore. I only have the options subtitles, chapters and postition. I then downloaded and installed Emby on the E-series to figure out where the problem and found out that it works on both of them out of the box. Does anybody have an idea on what might be the cause? Most urgent is to get it working on the F-series but I wouldn't mind getting it working on the Emby Theater client as well since I am considering moving från WMC to emby all together :-) My conclusion is that since it works on the D-series and the HTPC there must be a client setting that need to be adjusted. However I can´t find a setting that might do the trick. I dont know which the previous version of Emby I used but I installed it around May this year but the version I use on the tv:s is 0.590. The server is up to date with latest version The HTPC is Windows 7 and the laptop runs Windows 10. Logs and info from the F-series is below. Thanks for your input :-)

    External subtitles

Is there an issue with anyone else showing external subtitles in the latest update? They've worked nicely up until today when I updated. They are there and recognized by MBT, but they don't show. (Just how it was a while back before MBT supported external subs.)
  13. I noticed this when I was trying to get my subtitles to only show the non-english speaking parts of the new thor movie that when I add in subtitles (whether I am using my roku to stream or the android app) it gets laggy and stutters because it is now transcoding the video and audio which I noticed on the android app. Why does it need to transcode when simply adding subtitles? It is causing my video to load incredibly slowly and sometimes it need to reload. Thanks,
  14. First of all great app! I have a problem with subtitles that I can repro with version 0.585 and 0.587. When I play a show with subtitles (movies or tv it's the same) very often I see that instead of displaying the correct text for the scene the app will display several lines at a time (current scene and the next few seconds) showing the subtitle timing and for the next few seconds no subs will be displayed. Please find attached two screenshots of the problem. I can repro the issue with any video with subtitles enabled but I can't repro the problem with the web client or the iOS app. I also checked with other video players (vlc, infuse, kodi) and I couldn't repro the problem. I also have a short video (15 secs or so) that I did while reproducing the issue. Let me know if you want me to upload it. Thanks!
  15. This is a request from my wife, who likes Plex better because you can select the audio track and subtitles before launching the movie. I like MBT better as an all-in-one solution to Plex's more limited capacity, but I have to hand this one to her: that feature really is nice when dealing with a lot of foreign-language content.

    Unrequired Subtitles

I have recently turned on the automatic downloading of Subtitle Metadata and to be honest - it's killing me! Personally, I can't handle English sub titles in an English movie, but for some reason, MBS seems to be encouraging this for me. I have set my options to only download subtitles if the audio tracks don't match the language and also skip if the movie already contains graphical subtitles. When I watch the MKV on my computer, it only plays the embedded subtitles for a different language, however, as soon as I watch the same movie file on MediaBrowswer Classic, it kicks in English subtitles. Looking at MBS, I can see that it's downloaded an SRT file for each movie, completely in English and I get every word throughout the movie in English. I am having to rename the SRT file and start the movie again so that it won't add the subtitles. Is there something I'm doing wrong? It's a great concept to automatically add in subtitles, but I just can't seem to get it working correctly for me. Thanks in advance. Rips

    Open Subtitles

Good night, the emby is a perfect system for me, but the support for the language don't have Portuguese Brazil, just Portuguese. For my country i need to download subtitles in Portuguese Brazil. Anybody have any support for my case?
  19. Hello ppl. There are a problem with the subtitles language selection in MBS in automatic subtitles download from opesubtitles. There are no Portuguese (from Portugal) or Brazilian Portuguese, just Portuguese from Angola. In opensubtitles only exists portuguese and brazilian portuguese and if I set it to portuguese from Angola in MBS, it doesn't find any subtitles. (btw it has a char encoding problem) Portuguese (Angola) language option in MBS, the only portuguese option: The available portuguese options in opensubtitles: subtitles search in MBS: subtitles search in opensubtitles:
  20. For the record, these have been reproduced with android client 2.3.13. I think it's time to start up a new thread about these issues. Changing languages in the played stream is proving to be challenging. Issues so far: Chaging or turning off subtitles doesn't work in Android client (or the chromecast receiver, but we already covered that elsewhere) Changing audio language doesn't work with chromecast (but luckily works with Android client itself) Volume buttons don't appear to have any effect on the android player Also, it would be nice if: The built in player defaulted to landscape mode, since most media is in landscape format The pause control was available in the collapsed notification area card (currently it has no controls in the collapsed card) So yeah, thats a few things for now.
  21. When searching for subtitles in with the media manager web interface (edititemsubtitles.html) it would be nice if the media file name was shown. This would make it easier to select he correct subtitle according to the information given in the file name. The extracted media information available for the movie (itemdetails.html) could also be available in the subtitle search page (edititemsubtitles.html), to help if the information given in the filename is insufficient. Suggest the media information is normally hidden to keep the subtitle search page uncluttered.
  22. Hello, I'm on 3.0.5264.17006 and trying out subtitle download but I can't get it to find Dutch subtitles. I've tried this with several titles, and several languages but every time nothing is found for Dutch. I've checked opensubtitles.org and there are Dutch subtitles available. For example on Red 2, if I try English, Danish or Greek I get a list of subtitles to choose from but none for Dutch. This is available on the website: http://www.opensubtitles.org/nl/search/sublanguageid-dut/idmovie-149719 In the log I found this: "DownloadLanguages":["nld","eng"] I would have expected dut instead of nld I also found the request: http://bestanden:8096/mediabrowser/Items/17a14ae52575ebce3f99098b848d531a/RemoteSearch/Subtitles/nld which doesn't give results, this one: http://bestanden:8096/mediabrowser/Items/17a14ae52575ebce3f99098b848d531a/RemoteSearch/Subtitles/dut does give a list of valid subtitles. Edit: Just did some more testing, the same seems to happen to French fra in request, fre on site and German deu in request, ger on site. Haven't checked other languages

    Opensubtitles download limit??

I wasn't sure where to post this. I received the following error on my "Recent Activity" list: Message: 407 Download limit reached How is the Opensubtitles limit handled through Emby? Do I only get x number of downloads? Or do I get x number every y days? In which case, will Emby be able to eventually download subtitles for all of my movies given enough time?
