  1. Hi, On the Server you can currently see active devices on the dashboard, and consequently which users are watching what on what media. However, there's no way to abort these active devices to either conserve bandwidth, conserve server CPU, or simply to stop a renegade process. One use case that would be particularly helpful is when you're casting from the phone app to ChromeCast. If the phone gets interrupted, you lose control over the stream so that the TV stops showing whatever you were watching, and there's no way to stop it or regain control over it. Instead of having to stop and start the entire server, it would be nice to just click on that particular activity on the dashboard and press KILL (or perhaps a less dramatic word - cancel?) Food for thought? -Florux
  2. Hey all, I was wondering if server auto-discovery was discussed at any point? I couldn't find anything related on the forums so far. Two options that would IMO complement each other would be avahi and explicit SRV _emby._tcp entries (separate for http and https) in the local DNS. All the discovered (deduplicated) servers would show up as options when adding a server in Emby apps instead of having to type the URLs in. This shouldn't be too difficult to implement and I think it would improve the user experience a lot. Thanks!
  3. Hi guys, because there seems no way of the new apt repository getting real. Now I want to manually update to the latest version. It is possible to directly update to or do I have to make each step manually? Also is there a complete tutorial on how to do this? I am on Ubuntu 14.04 Server and have some experience with Linux. In other threads I only can find snippets of a tutorial mentioned in problem descriptions. So no real tutorial. Somebody has the required steps here? My plan (But only a draft): - Backup using plugin - Backup /var/lib/emby-server - Do apt-get purge emby-server - Remove apt repository from sources.list - Download latest *.deb from emby.media - Install using dpkg - Copy backup of /var/lib/emby-server to /var/lib/emby (I remember reading somewhere that this is the new directory) Did I forget some steps or do you have suggestions/recommendations? Sincerely, hvt

    IceTV support

Hi, Could IceTV support be added to Emby Server guide providers, so we are not forced to use XMLTV? They now have an API http://forum.icetv.com.au/iceforum/announcements/4/icetv-api-documentation/5065/.
  5. I've been using Emby for years now, and I really love it! But there are something that I really struggle with every day since Atmos and DTS-X was released. Emby only detects TRUEHD and DTS-MA and not the object sound formats. I know this is not an easy task and that we all have been waiting for ffdshow to make it possible. What I want while we wait (forever?) for a fix is to make Emby Server automatically add a tag "atmos or DTS-X) to the movies with "ATMOS or DTS-X) in their file name. This would make it so much easier, and would make cinema mode play Atmos & DTS-X intros based on these tags! It would save me alot of work!
  6. First off, I do not hold anyone accountable except myself for these errors until proven otherwise. I have tried everything I can think of and read all sorts of different "solutions" for problems similar, yet never resolved. So I am here to ask/beg for some additional guidance. When my Emby (3.4.0 - 3.5.2) server is trans-coding a video file, I will get these HTTP Response ms. spikes that I just cannot explain. When I stream without trans-coding I DO NOT experience this issues that I am aware of. This is only during trans-coding. Internal External Trans-coded Internal This is what I have running. Intel i7-4770s 3.1Ghz 4-Core (8-Core with HT) (stock no OC) (2) 8GB DDR3 1333 1.5v C:\ 120 GB SSD M.2 - OS WIN10 Pro x64 running Emby Server D:\ 120 GB SSD 6GB SATA - Trans-Code Directory (manual setup) (2) Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller Driver 10.28.615.2018 (updated when started having this issue) FIREWALL is DISABLED in Windows 10 \\Drobo5n\Data - Direct Share in Emby (movies, songs, tv shows) Cisco RV325 Gateway/Switch Wireless Unifi AP-AC-LR ATT - Fiber 1Gbps Charter - Cable 150/25Mbps -------------------------- Ways I've tested this. Local Network: I copied a movie, can be any movie, but this one is libx265 at roughly 5k to the local D: drive on the server. Trans-coding from the local D: drive would allow me to bypass the drobo5n as the possible problem and most of the network for the initial tests since we are dealing with basically lag spikes and reads and writes. I set the max threshold for steaming at 3Mbps (for testing) forcing even on the local network that the file played had to be trans-coded. Threads is set to max (8 total), Path is set to D:\Emby a empty SSD drive, Volume 1, H264 Encoding Fast, CRF 23, Allow subtitle extraction on the fly (set on or off does not change anything). I get ms spikes and the movie will eventually time out on the Emby client on a Amazon Fire-Stick. Client will time out also on a iPad running IOS 11.4.1, iPhone running 10.3.3. Anything on the local network having the movie trans-coded will get ms spikes and eventually time out. Trans-coded to the WAN: Essentially the same setup, however I have substituted the Cisco RV325 for a HP 2530, no changes. I removed the internal network as a factor and placed my ATT fiber connection into pass-thru mode and ran it directly to the emby server Ethernet interface 1 using all of AT&T's settings including a static IP. Same result with ms spike over 30000ms I did the same thing with the Charter connection and achieved the same results. Yes, all network cables have been checked and replaced in some form or fashion. Other than reformat a very pristine install of Windows 10, that is completely patched thru ver. 1803 OS Build 17134.254 I am not sure what could be causing this. I have also tried Intel Quick Sync under Hardware Acceleration and it made no difference if I got a HTTP-Response ms spike. Anyone got a idea on what is causing this? I would like to figure out why the HTTP Response 200 or 204 or 500 just seems to die and then comes back 30000ms later. Hopefully its something dumb I have done and just can't see/find. -jack embyserver.01.txt embyserver.02.txt ffmpeg-transcode-3a894504-e98f-4318-a42c-c343840d0d23.txt ffmpeg-transcode-7e725ccc-cf04-4617-b922-019e3c9454ed.txt

Emby Server setup on Nvidia Shield

Hi there, I'm trying to setup the Emby Server for my media library, using a Nvidia Shield as both the server and client app. I've installed the beta Server app on the Shield, and I can connect to http://app.emby.media/ using my macbook which sees the server on the Shield, and this is where i'm trying to add a new media library path, which isn't working. I'm using an external WD Elements drive on my Shield (setup as external storage) where all my media is located. The external drive is shared on my network through the Shield, and I can connect to it fine through my macbook (which is how I transfer files to it) When adding the new library, I'm not sure what to select as the file path (the search function doesn't find the folder where my media is located on the external drive) and when I try to add the path manually, I get an error message: "There was an error adding the media path. Please ensure the path is valid and the Emby Server process has access to that location." /Elements/NVIDIA_SHIELD/Media Server is the general file path for my media, so i'm not sure where i'm going wrong? Any help much appreciated.
  9. Hello everyone, I've been trying to add my iptv provider to emby and am getting nowhere. Help! I get it to the point where everything looks like it loaded properly: the guide is there, the channels are there but if I try to click on anything it just hangs. I try to click on the same channel in the native IPTV app from my provider...and it works flawlessly. I love the possibility of emby and bought a premium key...but just can't seem to get it all working. Help!
  10. I noticed Emby Server is not recognizing the 'Forced' flag for internal subtitles in a MP4 container. Here is an example, you can see from Subler that Track 5 is subtitles and they are checked as 'Forced'. However in Emby Server it is showing the subtitles as "No" for Forced.
  11. Hi Emby team, If I have two EPG sources, and some channels are present in both, then how do I prioritize / choose between them when merging? Also, daylight saving time seems to be different in UK and DK, so for periods in spring and fall, English channels are off-set by 1 hour when watching in DK. Is there a way to compensate the EPG (which then is 1 hour off)?
  12. Hi All Installed the portable version of emby server on my existing server - I'm virtualising Emby and moved the install to the new VPC. Read the instructions on how to do this and upon running the initial library scan it fails immediately. The portable install was deployed to the D drive of my old server but has been moved to C on the new box.. however the log file shows that Emby is still looking for a D: drive during some part of the scan. Anyway to fix this? (Log attached) Many thanks for your time Log.txt

    OSS Contributions

Hi. I'm a Plex refugee who is looking to contribute to an OSS media server platform so that instead of waiting for features I feel are important, I can be a bit more proactive. Is Emby Open Source? I see there is a GitHub repository (https://github.com/MediaBrowser/Emby) with GPL licensing. It doesn't seem to have recent contributions, however. I'd be interested in contributing to the Server, and the Android mobile and TV apps. Thanks!
  14. As i just lost my entire typescript -- Emby server is quite often sluggish and unresponsive. May show libraries on the home page of the web app, but nothing else. If it shows the libraries, it will show nothing inside them more often than not. Lots of time with the spinner. Similar issues with the Roku, iOS, and Android apps. I've very occasionally been able to watch or listen to things, but even when I can get into a library and get it to display items, the library is usually incomplete. Artist sorts in music return either endless spinner, or very partial results. As I recently added two libraries, I'm loathe to execute a restart (it's grindingly slowly towards 100% on those two.) If I can get a response on the web app or the iOS or Android app, I can sometimes cast to the Roku app on the TV. embyserver.txt embyserver-63671356800.txt

  17. Ever since the last couple updates my server is crashing every 5-10 minutes. I deleted all plugins, but I think it may be something else. I attached the logs... Help improving server performance

I have been running an emby server for about 2 years now. Love the platform and am an emby premier subscriber. I am looking to improve the performance of my emby interface have it be web or app. Currently my emby will have random hangs with a spinning loading circle when just loading content or using the search function has a good couple of seconds before it begins to populate anything. I currently run a workstation with 2 xeon e5 2660, 128gb ddr3 ecc all on a gigabit network with FiOS gigabit 940/880mbps internet connection. I have multiple hard drives installed all minimum 7200rpm. (Users at a given time range from 1-6, the amount of users using does not seem to have an effect as to weather or not I experience the slow hangs) My current emby server runs on a windows server 2008 virtual machine on VMware workstation with 16gb of ram and 16 processing threads dedicated to the VM on a dedicated 7200rpm spinning disk with one of my 5 gigabit nics dedicated specifically to the VM and nothing else. (I have a 120gb SSD installed not in use that I was considering using as a cache drive but am posting here to see if that's the best use). As for my storage I have 2 Netgear readynas raid 5 arrays setup content storage on a network share mapped to the emby server and their gigabit nics are bonded for 2 gigabit total throughout (have tried unbonding and testing performance to see if it caused the hangs and it does not). I also recently purchased an hdhomerun prime and set it up for live TV through emby. I noticed the tv guide and channel population and selecting the channels is very slow even on good connections. (hdhomerun is also connected via gigabit) tried having tuner transcoding on and off, doesn't seem to make a different in speed. My networking equipment are some Netgear unmaneged gigabit gs switched leading into a ubiquiti unifi 8 port managed switch and a unifi usg firewall as my main router/firewall. Given my current setup, is there something that could be configured wrong or that I could improve to increase the performance of my server ? (I apologize for any typos. Typed this up on my phone)
  19. Hey all! I'm attempting to set up Emby to run externally. However, whenever I attempt to connect with my Android device in either Chrome or the Emby app, I can see the server but get the message "We're unable to connect to the selected server right now. Please ensure it is running and try again." I've been doing a fair bit of research on this issue and haven't been able to find anything that has solved the problem (though plenty of others with similar issues). I've gone through the entire Connection Troubleshooter with no luck. I'm uncertain if my router is blocking traffic and how to check if so. I'm on AT&T U-verse. The combined modem/router that AT&T gave us should be in bridge mode, and I'm using my own router for WiFi and ethernet connections. I've set up a static IP for my PC that's running Emby Server. I've also set up port forwarding on my router for 8096 and that static IP address. Now it shows up as the local address. The remote address, however, is different: [image removed] I can connect to the local one from inside my network, no problem there. Still having problems connecting remotely. I've tried both signing in with Emby Connect (the server shows up but gives me the error message when I attempt to connect) and adding a server manually for both the remote and in-home addresses (same message) on my Android from both Chrome and the Emby app. canyouseeme.org is showing my public IP address at port 8096 is not connecting ("Connection refused"). I suspect the problem is due to the difference between the two IP addresses, possibly due to the AT&T U-verse modem. I am unable to use that IP address, however, in my port forwarding (my router insists upon 10.166.*.*, which is different from the public IP). I did set "External domain" to the same IP as the In-Home (LAN) access just for kicks and that didn't seem to work either. The attached log file does have an "error processing request" but I don't know if it's related. I did some digging on the forum, on port forwarding in general, and so forth, and now I'm here. Has anyone else run into this particular problem when connecting remotely? Thanks.
  20. A quick question - would there be any possibility for an Emby server plug-in for the Western Digital My Cloud series of NAS boxes? I have a MyCloud Mirror (Gen 1) which currently supports my Kodi MySQL database (and the media itself) and am seeing some good things about Emby. So I was wondering if there was any possibility/plan for that NAS series, or would it need something of greater power? If there is a better place to ask this question, please move the thread (new here so still finding my way around).

    Question about my SSL cert

Hello all, A friend of mine reached out to me the other day to let me know that they could no longer connect to my emby server. It had been running fine, so I was puzzled. When I went and looked at the settings, it turns out that the server no longer appears to be running over HTTPS, only on HTTP. I don't even see any option for HTTPS other than under Expert->Advanced where I can set the external HTTPS port. I am currently on the 3.5 beta. Everything works fine right now on HTTP, but I would much prefer to be running over HTTPS again. Anyone have any thought or suggestions? Thanks! N
  22. Since I don't really know databases, I don't understand this procedure. Can someone break this down for someone who has no idea. What do you enter when it ask "Please specify the database name under which you want to access the attached database"? Where does that command go?
  23. Hi, I am new to emby but I have a question / feature request. I have 2 emby server a) home nas company nas Is there a way of mapping the both together, so that I don't have to switch all time the server and that I have kind of a global search on both servers? Or how do you resolve this? Please tell me that this feature exists, and how to use thanks in advance
  24. Hey, During a library scan, Emby decided to freeze up. My steps were to restart the server, which I probably shouldn't have, and then that froze up. I closed out of all the windows and it won't boot up my dashboard. Any tips? Thanks. - Arly
