  1. I am new to emby and have searched here and elsewhere and found a lot of talk about library scans and such but nothing about this specific kind of thing. Running latest stable version as of two days ago on Windows 8.1. I have a dump folder, basically, where TV Shows get dumped into and they have some crazy names because that's how they come to me (wink). Usually they have dots in between the words of the name. Like The.Big.Bang.Theory.s11e01.maybeotherstuffhere.mkv or something like that. Nothing is in a subfolder at all. One big, ugly, dump folder. I have the library pointed at this folder with the auto update option turned on and set to TV so when new things get dumped there it should pick them up. This is how I had plex setup and it worked perfectly for this. emby does a horrible job at identifying the shows/episodes in this scenario. I love emby and consider it superior to plex in pretty much every other way at this point. I even dropped my plex pass subscription and paid for emby premiere. I guess my question is whether emby just isn't setup to identify things like this or it can't figure the name because of the dots or it has to have the subfolders OR am I doing something wrong other than having the big dump folder as a library? Thanks for the help.
  2. Hello I have musicfolders including movies. But I want that Emby scans only movies. Is that possible? Thank you Heinrichxx

    Library Scan freezing

I have been having a problem that seems to have started with the latest server version. I am not sure when I first noticed it so I am not 100% sure if the server version has anything to do with it. Long story short if I restart my server it will complete a scan with no problems (usually within 1 minute or less). Then after a bit of time with the server up it will conduct a scan and get stuck, usually at 49.9% every time. I have put my pastebin debug log link in here and this is shortly after a server restart. It started the library scan but around 1600 on the log it froze at 97.5%. Does anyone see anything in the log that could point me in the right direction. Thank you for any help you can provide. http://pastebin.com/pKCCevZg

    Scan media library failed

Hello again, After I've added a local folder to my library I keep getting a scan error message. Any idea how I can solve this?
  5. I am seeing that some of my TV shows are not available in the Library - more than 50% of shows are not shown. Yesterday I deleted the TV media library and then readded it. During scan process I saw the missing shows appear, but then they disappeared again by the time the scan process completed. I didnt yet go forensic on the logs... but first checking if anyone knows why shows might not be showing up in the library. I have checked permissions and my user has access to "all libraries". Thanks in advance for any pointers.

    Real Time Monitoring BASH Script

I've modified a bash file monitoring script that I found here to update the library when a file changes in the given directory. So the script sends a curl request to update the Emby library when detects a change in any file inside the given path, it also works with files inside sub-directories. Thanks also to this post for the curl request. You just have to change de path and add your Emby API key to the curl link. The script runs every minute but this can be changed in the end where the sleep command is. To run it in the background you just have to execute the command: nohup /root/watch_emby.sh >/dev/null 2>&1 & This is for all linux users who don't have Real Time Monitoring. If you also want you can change the cmd variable to execute something else than the library update. Enjoy! watch_emby.txt
  7. Greetings, I had my emby server worked flawlessly under Ubuntu 14.04 LTS. When I upgraded to 16.04 LTS, the package was removed. I reinstalled it from the official PPA and since, I get the following error whenever a media scan is initiated. I cannot figure out why. 2016-08-14 05:38:40.7216 Error TaskManager: Error *** Error Report *** Version: 3.0.6060.0 Command line: /usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe -programdata /var/lib/emby-server -ffmpeg /usr/bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /usr/bin/ffprobe -restartpath /usr/lib/emby-server/restart.sh Operating system: Unix 4.4.0.34 Processor count: 8 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: True Program data path: /var/lib/emby-server Mono: 4.2.1 (Debian 4.2.1.102+dfsg2-7ubuntu4) Application Path: /usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe Value cannot be null. Parameter name: path System.ArgumentNullException The error does not say much about the problematic path. Regarding this bad / useless error message, I already opened issue #2056. Still, I would like to fix the problem. Anybody can provide some help with this? What actual parameter in what file is missing / misconfigured according to you? Thank you in advance, Sebas.

    Files not being scanned

I am experiencing a problem where not all of my files are being scanned. I am on version 3.1.110.0. I have some files in \\ip address\movies\disney\cars [boxset]. In the cars [boxset] folder is the coverart and a collections.xml file. The folder.jpg file shows cars collection on it. In this folder I have Cars and Cars 2 in their own folders. They do not have any metadata files in them and they also don't show up in my library either. I don't know what else to try to get them to display. I also have some 3d files and they don't show up with the 3d tag on them from coverart. I have 3d sbs in the movie title and it still doesn't display correctly. Any suggestions?
  9. I detected this several weeks ago but I only had time to report it now. I'm running Emby 5930 (latest stable). Can't remember the exact Emby version when the problem started but since some time now (maybe two months) my library scans went from around 2:30mins to around 12-14 mins. Today I was checking the logs and I saw tons of exceptions while contacting musicbrainz.org since the site is returning a 503 error for many requests from Emby: 2016-04-19 21:32:01.4539 Info HttpClient: HttpClientManager GET: http://www.musicbrainz.org/ws/2/release/?query="(2001)+Just+Push+Play" AND arid:3d2b98e5-556f-4451-a3ff-c50ea18d57cb 2016-04-19 21:32:01.6613 Error HttpClient: Error getting response from http://www.musicbrainz.org/ws/2/release/?query="(2001)+Just+Push+Play" AND arid:3d2b98e5-556f-4451-a3ff-c50ea18d57cb *** Error Report *** Version: 3.0.5930.0 Command line: /usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe -programdata /var/lib/emby-server -restartpath /usr/lib/emby-server/restart.sh Operating system: Unix 3.10.0.327 Processor count: 4 64-Bit OS: True 64-Bit Process: True Program data path: /var/lib/emby-server Mono: 4.2.1 (Stable 4.2.1.102/6dd2d0d Wed Jan 13 16:44:34 UTC 2016) Application Path: /usr/lib/emby-server/bin/MediaBrowser.Server.Mono.exe One or more errors occurred. I'm not familiar with MusicBrainz, is it like opensubtitles that requires to have a user account to query the site? Cheers.

    Media library scan fails

Hi guys, Something new since upgrade to 3.5959.0 beta this morning. Media scan fails after a few seconds (sometimes after a minute) and about 30% completion. Latest log is attached. The error seems to point to C:\Users\Keith\AppData\Roaming\MediaBrowser-Server\System\MediaBrowser.ServerApplication.exe, which exists at the specified location. I tried restarting the server and also the PC, with no luck. Any idea what's going on? server-63598377749.txt

    MCM resetting metadata

I have one movie in particular that I've had to set the custom rating because it erases the metadata every day. I even unchecked the box for the Parental Rating to lock the metadata from being updated. I've recently locked all the metadata to prevent any problems, and it erases my changes the same way. To troubleshoot, I tried changing the actual parental rating from Approved to G (instead of adding a custom rating), and it seems pretty consistent that every morning I wake to it being changed back to Approved. I've also seen movies that have their metadata locked erase the sorting name. I'm on Version 3.0.5921.0
  12. Now that the UI navigation has been altered to have nested levels - it now takes three clicks to initiate a library scan (Library > Folders > Scan Library). I don't like using automatic library scanning as it causes me problems (my NAS is not powered on 24/7) - so I always manually initiate library scans (often multiple times a day after adding various new content). Please consider adding a "Scan Library" button to the main dashboard page or even to the left hand navigation list (if that's possible). Maybe something like this: Anyone else that would like this feature - please "Like" this post as it helps bring it to the devs' attention.

Scan Library of One Source Only?

Issue: New media is added to my Ubuntu Linux server pretty frequently. I don't want to thrash my storage by consistently kicking off manual scans like I'm doing now. One idea I have is to add a new library source located on SSD to at least speed up the scans, however I only see the option to manually kick off scans for the entire library not just one source. Additionally I don't see an option to schedule scans for a single source. Unfortunately, real-time monitoring of the filesystem doesn't work from what I can see in forum posts. Does anyone have any ideas how I might go about more frequently updating the library without having to manually kick it off or set a scan to automatically happen really frequently?
  14. Hello, I have been using emby for quite a while now, and again, a really annoying bug occured. I just realized, that somewhere on the road my emby server started to store ALL png-files that are metadata files with the wrong filename. For example, cdart.png is cdart..png. Therefore, the skin I use never finds those images. Same goes for logo.png. I have 3.0.5818.0 on Ubuntun 15.10. Seriously, such a bug in a "stable" release? Are you kidding me? All over the community, people are more and more complaining about the emby server being buggy. You should definitely consider doing something about your release cycles and try to get some improvement of the quality of your releases instead of starting to charge people for services. Just my 2 cents.

    Start a scan

Hello, Emby is slow to recognize new content. When I add a new movie in a scanned folder I would like Emby to see it fast (less than 5 minutes). Right now I need to do the scan manually for Emby to see it. Otherwise it is taking up to 12 hours. I konw I can change the scan frequency to every 15 minutes, but isnt it a bit heavy on the server when there is no new content during many days? I have a post-process script adding new content automatically. Could it be possible to simply add a command in this script to fire a library scan when new content is added only? What command is it ? Thank you for your help.

    Scan takes too long

Hi, Emby currently takes about 30 minutes to scan my database. It used to take 2-3 minutes. This behaviour started some versions ago and I waited to see if something would change. It didn't It seems to be related to music metadata being fetched on the web. Attached is the server log. server-63587962404.txt
  17. Hello. Running build 3.0.5781.4 on Debian 7. I'm able to play music I've uploaded to my library, but the "Scan Library" process doesn't find any new files in my music library; I have to refresh the page before they show up. And when they DO show up, there's no image art. When I go to "Identify" the item, I never get anything back but a bunch of magnifying glass icons. Server log of my latest attempt is here.
  18. Every now and then, my Emby server just hangs during the library scan because it gets stopped from somewhere, I really don't know where this is coming from, log attached. server-63582940533.txt
  19. When scanning my library to Emby, and the server calls ffprobe to analyze the files, it seems to occasionally hang at this step, resulting in main@htpc:~/.emby-server/logs$ ps -efj | grep ffprobe main 16995 17978 16994 17978 0 11:48 pts/0 00:00:00 grep ffprobe main 26502 20731 20731 20731 0 11:22 ? 00:00:00 /home/main/.emby-server/ffmpeg/20150917/ffprobe -i file:/media/Media2/Music/Roger Waters/Ca Ira/01-06 Act 1_ Scene 2_ Honest Bird, Simple Bird.flac -threads 0 -v info -print_format json -show_streams -show_format running forever at 0% CPU load. The library scan gets stuck there. Any ideas where this might come from?
  20. Version 3.0.5724.6 I've received Unhandled Exceptions sometimes when I do scans, but recently I've not been able to scan my library because I receive the same error about 30 minutes during EVERY scan. I haven't been able to scan my library because of this error because it crashes the server. I have rebooted the server after I receive the error, but during the next scheduled scan, Emby will crash. Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. server-63579945600.txt unhandled_3ad978a7-8f86-4f42-9421-4e8e8257e31e.txt

    Library Scan Failing

I'm pretty comfortable with Arch, but Emby has put me to the test. After two days and several 6-packs of Coke, I finally got it installed and configuration up and running in Chrome. I even somehow got two forms of media added to the library from my WD MyCloud NAS. But the folder scanning is failing. In the Library section, under the Scan Library button it just always says "Last result: (failed)". Really, really not sure what is going on. Anyone have any thoughts? My latest log file is attached but it's all greek to me. emby-Log-2015.09.20.txt
  22. Hi all, I'm facing this issue: http://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/24157-webclient-recursive-library-scan-missing-mediainfo/ basically I have missing mediainfo for some files, during regular or advanced library scan the missing mediainfo is not added if you have folder within folders (so recursive). If ran on the single, individual file, then it works, but with a 50TB library that is nuts. So would it be possible to add a separate trigger to scan/add missing mediainfo in a recursive scan ?
  23. I have the following setup: Movies HD - Movie 1 -----Movie 1.mkv - Movie 2 -----Movie 2.mkv - Collection XYZ -----Movie X -----------Movie X.mkv -----Movie Y -----------Movie Y.mkv -----Movie Z -----------Movie Z.mkv In Emby Metadata Manager, under the Grou Movies, I see Movie 1, 2 and the Collection Folder XYZ. When I perform a full refresh of Movies HD, all movies are refreshed except the Movies in the Collection subfolder. So have to go through all the collection folders to refresh them manually... Is it possible to implement a Level-2-Scan or recursive scanning instead of the actual scanning of just one level down? I think it really would make sense to go one level deeper as many people use such subfolders for Collections (eg. Harry Potter, Hellboy, The Godfather, ) or Numbering (A, B, C...)
  24. Hi At the moment, we have the progress bars for the scanning of the libraries. Could we have an additional little log window, that tells us what it's doing in a simple form? So it could look like this: I'd love to know what it's actually doing...
  25. Due to the Library Scan stalling issues with the Dev MBS build, I installed Beta MBS on a separate PC and copied all of the libraries (TV, Movies and Photos) I use in Dev to the Beta setup, but the library scan is still stalling. This is where it stalls - it seems to be the same place in Beta and Dev: 2015-03-09 12:07:47.1620 Debug - App: Running PhotoAlbumImageProvider for \\MEDIASERVER-2\Photos\2010\05.
