Hi everyone. I've been a long time subsonic user and I'm considering switching over to emby. I've got my server set up and I've been using for a few days. I wanted to test it out before I spring for premiere. I'm running into some issues and have some questions I'm hoping more seasoned users can answer. 1.) it seems as though the queue is not maintained after the app is closed. If I leave it pause too long and it closes in the background, my play queue is gone. I am using the free version so maybe that's a function of premiere? 2.) it seems like song files are deleted immediately after playing the song. Is there a way to have it keep a certain amount? On Subsonic You can set the cache limit and it will keep that many songs. So you always have some available for offline listening. I see that with premier access you can manually download songs. But is that the only way to have them available offline? 3.) Is there no way to customize the context menus? There's a lot of options that I could do without and it would really clean it up. Any help or advice is appreciated. Thanks!

Hello together, i want to switch from plex to emby, bought a life time premiere pass to make sure not to miss anything. Now i want to import my directories. I added emby user to the old plex directories on the synology level. So far so good. I am able to import all files. But, right now, i really have problems with my ripped audio books and cds. In all imported directories i added cover.jpg files. But somehow, especially with audiobooks, the images are not detected or at least not shown in my library. For showing audiobooks i open my audiobook library and switch to the books panel. Here i dont see any images. On the other hand: if i switch to the folder/diretory tab, there i see the directories with images. Here are some examples: Also in the music libs there are some pictures not detected or shown. Here its only 10%, Audiobooks are 95%. I tried to play with the settings of the lib, but actually i dont know with setting is the best. I assume, usually images in the directories should be taken first, only if there is no image it tries to look up in the internet? Is it a problem if the albums are not detected? But again, i would assume, it would take local pictures first. Additionally it seems like the feature for saving images in the media folder doesnt work. I tried to upload images in the emby gui but the uploaded images didnt show up in the local media folder of the album. I read the naming convention stuff, i waited until the scan was complete (no green bar anywhere anymore). Maybe someone is able to help here?

Artist name differing artist folder name results in two artists listed
elektrokokke posted a topic in General/Windows
Hi! First of all, Emby has been a very nice experience for me so far. Never regretted purchasing premium. I have, however, one small problem which is sometimes bothering me. I though I'd try and ask, maybe there is a fix. I am using Emby for music exclusively. My folder structure is artist/album/track. However, special characters in artist names and album name I replace with underscores for their folder name, including spaces. For example: "...And you will know us" results in a folder name "_And_you_will_know_us". As a result, i have two artists in the artists list, one for the correct artist name which is in the tracks' metadata, and one for the folder name (shown in all uppercase). The folder name artist is showing the correct artist art, but the artist with the metadata tag name is not. Also, in the metadata tag name artist (i.e., the one with the correct name) does not have any albums associated, instead all albums are listed only under the "appears on" list (I use it in German, where it is called "Erscheint auf"). I would really like to see only the correct artist name, and have the albums and artwork associated correctly, and I want to avoid having to change the artist metadata to conform to valid folder names. Is there a way to achieve that? What I find strange is that for albums, this problem does not occur, despite me using the same name to folder mapping. Thanks for any help on this! -
When navigating from Album Artist / Artist / Composer detail pages to Tag pages, using the Tags links in the About section near the bottom of the pages, the subsequent Tag pages do NOT show all the relevant tags. I first found this by trying to associate an Album Artist with a Composer, by using a common tag for the two items. I’ve since tried this with several different item combinations, with various tag names, and still get the same results. Here’s a wider test example, showing the extent of the problem, with every item type I can think of tagged with “Test Tag”. With Emby 4.8.8.0, when navigating: Tags Menu tab>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Search>Tags>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Album detail page>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Song detail page>Tag: the relevant Album / Album Artist / Artist / Collection / Composer / Folder / Playlist / Song tagged items are all shown Album Artist detail page>Tag: only the Album Artist / Artist items are shown Artist detail page>Tag: only the Album Artist / Artist items are shown Composer detail page>Tag: only the Album Artist / Artist items are shown This first picture shows the expected complete results Tag page. This second picture shows the limited partial results Tag page. Digging a bit deeper, it seems that the two views are different pages: http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/list/list.html?tagId=569744&serverId=437bcbdb674e44df85900dde5a8e73ba http://localhost:8096/web/index.html#!/list/list.html?tagId=569744&serverId=437bcbdb674e44df85900dde5a8e73ba&type=MusicArtist They also have different Sort By, Filters and Settings options available from the Menu. Hopefully this has been explained well enough. Why are the Tag results pages designed to be different, depending upon the preceding starting page? Is this an error that can be fixed please or perhaps I am doing something wrong with my tagging? With the limited results navigating, it means that Tags cannot be used effectively to set up quick easy cross-referencing between Album Artists / Artists / Composers. At a minimum, the limited results Tag pages should also include Composers. Thanks!

Hi, I've been going through my flac collection and cleaning up the incorrect metadata directly in the files. I ended up adding missing genres to a lot of the files. After doing this I then copied all my music across to my server and rescanned the library, but none of the newly added genres are shown. I also noticed that in cases where I had changed the genre, the old genre is still displayed for those albums and the new one is ignored. I have the genre display limit set to five, so it shouldn't have any problems displaying multiple genres for each album. Any idea where I might be going wrong? Is there a simple way to get Emby to refresh the genres from the tags embedded in the flac files? Thanks, Dylan

Music Album/Track/Artist - Local Image Importer (not embeded images)
mickle026 posted a topic in Plugins
This is currently for testing purposes only - use at your own risk Use on a test library before even attempting to use on your main server. Plugin For Albums in their own folders ! Emby doesnt seem to be able to do this correctly , every track gets the first ones scanned embedded image. Unless i am doing it wrong. ?? But doing it this way it makes absolutely no difference what the embeded images are or what emby does or doesnt do, you are in control. Use it with realtime scanning then you dont have to mess with embys metadata editor, only to loose all the settings if i have to redo anything. You can drop an artist image in the folder or a track Image (I use singles cover images for the tracks- i like them that way) and it just adds it when RTM picks up a change, or a refresh metadata happens. So the EXAMPLE album cover is the 1977 one but the track covers are all different Its a local Metadata Reader , so it scans the local directory when any metadata refresh happens or library scan happens. Set settings in Library Edit screen. It doesnt use embeded images, it looks for an image with the same name as the track name I dont think I ever publically posted it before??? - probably because I never officially finished it! I cannot remember but I think they can be in subfolders too. Anyway it scans the local directories for song track covers, album covers and artist images. - nothing embeded! (supports jpg/gif/png/bmp/webp/tiff) Album covers will be Poster.jpg Cover.jpg Front.jpg folder.jpg 1.jpg 0.jpg f.jpg filename-front.jpg filename-poster.jpg R-xxxxxxxxxxxx.jpg // this one is for directly downloaded discogs R- filename images Artists are the same but name can be hyponated, underscored etc, probably can be in a sub folder. Rod Stewart.jpg Rod-Stewart.jpg Rod_Stewart.jpg Song Tracks Must be the same as the mp3 filename, but with a different extension Album cover backdrops are also supported by the plugin *-backdrop*.jpg *-background*.jpg *-landscape*.jpg *-fanart*.jpg backdrop*.jpg background*.jpg landscape*.jpg fanart*.jpg As it assigns the local image, beware that if you remove the image in emby it will probably remove the image from the drive (I cannot exactly remember if it does or not). I know it just returns a result to emby, so it probably depends on your settings within emby. if you are on windows and want to extract your embeded album art you can create a batch file and use ffmpeg (copy them both to the album directory and run it) Batch file contents - for jpg extract from mp3s for %%f in (*.mp3) do ffmpeg.exe -i "%%f" -an -vcodec copy "%%~nf.jpg" Anyway you are welcome to try it (as always with my plugins - try at your own risk) If you do try it, create a test library first becuase I have not tested the Album backdrops work correctly! - they should... Still to do... whenever I can be bothered. Make a config screen so you can dissable the logging - sorry its just on for now! LocalAlbumCoverImporter.zip Fixed Artist Import Throwing Errors into Emby Main log, and now only scans the current directory (test code was looking in all directories that the artist existed on tracks) LocalAlbumCoverImporter-12.09.2024.zip -
Today I thought how nice it would be if I could start playing music on one device (e.g. computer #1), and then when I move around (like to computer #2, or somewhere where I only have my phone), I pause on the 1st device and then resume the now playing queue on the other device. But it appears one device has no awareness of what was playing on another device. Any chance of adding such a feature or option? I don't know how common of a use case this would be, but I've never been one to do much with music in Emby, and this kind of feature would probably make a big difference in choosing Emby for listening to my music.

A sleeptimer function for audiobooks and music would be great (also for tv series, but thats a different thing). For audiobooks its actually quite essential to be able to set a timer to not have to struggle to find the point of falling asleep again the next day... Without that the audiobooks function seems quite useless to me atm. It's nothing else than just playing one long song atm. For music it would be a nice additonal feature too.

Hello, I hope you are doing well. Sorry to bother you... I'm having an issue with my music, as you can see. I added a music album, and everything seems normal in my files, but Emby detects a duplicate for each track. They all work, and I don't understand what's going on. I am also providing my settings. Thank you very much in advance, and I wish you a wonderful day and a great start to the week !

The audio player in the iOS app is very buggy, with many visual issues and QoL issues which make listening to music an unpleasurable experience Device: iPhone 15 Pro Max OS : iOS 18.1 Beta 2 Emby server/app version: latest as of post Below is a video of my experience with the audio player in the emby app, issues visualised are: Flickering boxes behind UI elements, Low quality backdrop image (my suggestion would be a lot of blur here) low quality playing animation on current track in queue page UI not taking up full screen space, empty area above album art, could accommodate larger player controls if album art is moved up Other issues I’ve faced: Some playback issues with slow LTE speeds, which could be solved with better caching/pre-downloading Losing song progress when disconnected Thanks for reading ScreenRecording_08-17-2024 13-52-35_1.mov

When I play a song or a playlist the app hangs when I go into the now playing/play queue screen. If multiple songs are in the queue the app will play about 3-4 songs before it crashes and playback ceases. I am able to play media from my Android TV and web browser without any issues. Please let me know if you need additional details. Thank you! (I love Emby) ---- Server Version: Version 4.9.0.26 beta (Premiere) App Version: 3.4.11 Phone: Pixel 6 Pro Android Version: 14

Hey, a new music channel has launched on Sky and Virgin in the UK called "Now90s00s". https://www.tvguide.co.uk/channel/now-90s00s Could I possibly (very nicely) ask your guide data boffins if they'd look in to it to see if the EPG data could be added please ? Thankyou
-
I appreciate this may well not even be possible but no harm in asking I suppose Has anyone been able to get any of the UK Music channels working in Live TV with EPG data ?. I'm thinking the likes of Now 80's and Clubland specifically but anything in general. I did find a couple of M3U files a few nights ago that have allowed me to add Now 80's/Now Rock/Trace Urban/Vevo 80's/Vevo Country and Vevo Pop which all work nicely but all have zero in the way of EPG data and even Channel Logos (which I added manually). My old guilty pleasure was recording a lot of the one-off shows and countdowns on these channels so it would be nice to be able to do that again through Emby.

Duplicate Support for embedded mood tags for music tracks
smsamee posted a topic in Feature Requests
Music is an integral part of our daily lives, and its impact is often tied to the mood it helps evoke or express. I would like to propose a feature that I believe could significantly enrich the music listening experience on Emby: the addition of mood tags for music tracks by reading the mood descriptors from embedded metadata in music tracks, enabling users to filter and create playlists based on their emotional tone. -
(server: Synology Docker, clients: iOS, Samsung Smart TV). Gracias

And also comments over here: I admit I had left emby back in late 2019 - for that slow scan issue -- and then gave 4.8 a chance, but was no game changer. So here I'm in 2024, gone through some hoops to get Emby BETA 4.9.0.11 running on TrueNAS Core, but things are not flying. As of writing -- and I guess long before finished -- it's scanning 45min by now On the other hand I also just compiled Logitech Media Server(LMS) from ports. (for those who don't know, it's more a server/client system, with hardware endpoints like Squezebox Radios, not so much a "streaming to app" system) I only have on data source (_Music_HiRes) I use and its my CD collection, with many compilations of 2, 3,4 sometimes more discs and it's the same for Emby and LMS. The entire scan on LMS is done: It also has the Total Artists: 5,671 because of all those compilations. Actual Album Artists are 347 In a way I'm asking, if it is time to maybe add a different method to scan Librarys? One the user can simply select with "Just use my Tags and Images - no extra Metadata - Fast Scan/Less Metadata" Or, as Emby is what it is now, give an option "Don't collect Metadata for Artists in compilations - Fast Scan" (if this would help to scan faster) When you buy a compilation you get a cover and back you remember, not a booklet with 50+ pages for every Artist on that compilation AND that's just fine in my opinion! My thoughts so far and I will add how the initial scan went. Cheers

Prior to 4.8.1.0, I added music by tagging and embeding high quality album artwork (fanart) using picard and Emby would use the high quality artwork for both the album and also each song. In 4.8.1.0, it appears the use the fanart embedded image but down scales it to 600x600 for each track. I can delete the album cover and add the high quality album cover but it must be done for each track. Is this the expected behavior? The included images show the embedded image (1000x1000) but the image screen shows the down scaled album cover.

So I'm trying to have emby as a backup to my plex server and everything goes great with all my video libraries....until I get to making my music library. It doesn't import all artists and albums. I have deleted and tried numerous things but it constantly misses 100's of albums and about 20 artists. I have 390 artists and 3,870 albums total. Emby does 376 artists and 3600ish albums. I don't know what to do or why it's not scanning everything in. Much appreciated for some help thanks.

What is the proper way to import m3u playlsits (from Swinsian for Mac)? Do I place them into the main music folder or create "Cool List [playlist]" folder with m3u file in the /Data/userplaylists folder?
-
Possibly this is answered but I couldn't find the answer: I started a new music library in Emby and scanned it overnight. Some of the artist names are showing up as the names of the artist folder names instead of the metadata in the files. For example, the artist "Alicia Keys" is showing up in Emby as "alicia_keys". Or "Louis Armstrong" shows up as "louis_armstrong". This is a problem with most of the artists but not all of them. Some of the artists do show up correctly: "Willie Nelson" shows up correctly as "Willie Nelson". I've verified that my metadata tags are correct. Is the library still being built and I don't see that? The dashboard doesn't say anything is happening and the scheduled tasks say the media library scan was completed 11 hours ago. Any advice is appreciated.

Not sure if what I want to do is currently possible, but here's what I'm encountering. I have a library "Music", in the specified directory is a bunch of audio files and subdirectories. I have some subdirectories ignored with .ignore files, these directories contain audio files that don't come from specific albums, aren't "songs" per se, or are soundtracks or sound libraries from video games and other ancillary media that isn't "Music" and I would rather not have cluttering up the library. What I'm attempting to accomplish is to have certain files within subdirectories of the ignored directory included in playlists, but not scanned and included and cluttering up the "Music" library. I've attempted to create another library with those directories, and ran into the cant have libraries who's target is a subdirectory of another library problem, so then I created a symlink to the desired directory and created a library with that which worked, but then if i remove that library from my user (essentially to hide the library from normal viewing as its unorganized and most of the files don't have any metadata worth using) the playlist with items from the library are gone (likely intended behavior). So I guess what I'm asking is as follows: - Is it possible to add files to a playlist without them being included in a library (or if they're in an ignored subdirectory of the library target) - If not, is it possible to hide a library from a user and not bar them access to it so a playlist can access the files?

music: sort albums by date added: album cover will showup with delay
plessers@gmail.com posted a topic in Emby For Kodi Next Gen
Hi, Running LibreElec 10.0.3 on Raspberry 4 with Kodi and addon "Kodi Emby for Kodi Next Gen" 7.13.1 My music library contains +/- 2600 albums (+/- 40.000 songs) For me: the most interesting view is "albums-sorted-by-date-added". This works fine, BUT I noticed that the album cover art is displayd with some delay.... Taking a closer look at the process, it seems that the cover art is displayed alphabetically, meaning that an the cover art of album with name "zzzz" is showed much later that album with name "aaa". This is not noticeable in a "normal" view, because the default sortorder is alphabetically. However, If you sort the albums by "date added", it looks like the cover art is displayed randomly and it takes a while (if you have a large library) to show all covers. To speed up things I already tried to enable local cache. ANd my LibreElec is running on a fast SSD on the USB3 port (+/-200Mb/s). On the emby webinterface, I can not see this behavior: cover art of albums sorted on "date added" shows up immediately. So I'm afraid that this is a KODI issue, but maybe somebody has some workaround for this...... Any help is appreciated! kind regards, Bart- 37 replies

Emby Music Ideas In the beginning I want to say once again that I LOVE EMBY Because I love music same as movies. Emby now replaced all my Qnap apps, Plex, and maybe in the future even more? Some my ideas how to make Emby Music better (in my opinion): Music: Click on the TITLE to show on track the Playlist window - most of the times playlist is fixed position if you don’t scroll. I have 30k tracks, so it’s impossible for me to find actual playing song ———————————— Music: add “Play 100 Random Track” , “Top Rated”, “Never Player” - please, please, please ! Qnap made this very nice -> ————————— Settings -> Home Screen -> Music -> Default Screen: add: SONG from the drop menu. It’s my default place where I go. And maybe Favourite would be nice touch, as well ————— Add: Editing tab order Add: Favorite tab is missing ———— Add: Sorting by name, folder, date, time, size. Add: Visible Bpm, Size MB, Year info, when song plays. Add: 1-5 star rating for songs, would be nice. Add: Track number (!) Add: SEARCH box ! Please Add/Missing: Shuffle playlist - There is one Shuffle in the “Song” tab and when you press on the #tag. But missing on the actual player/playlist. Next to "loop/repeat" it's perfect place. ———— iOS Emby Music: I think me like many iPhone users love sliding across aps, photos, FB, Instagram, settings, when you actually don't have to press "BACK" button, or any other button but just slide... It would be amazing if we could slide "previous/next song", same as "volume up&down". ------ I'm not sure if it's even possible, but Emby it's more NAS tool. So maybe "Share this strack"? --------- Error/Bug: Missing "3 dots" for extra menu. I can't add song to favorite. ---------- Otherwise Emby "Music" is beyond what I could imagine Thank you Emby Team! Keep Going .
