  1. Though my files are meticulously tagged on MP3Tag, Emby will change albumartist name based on metadata gathered from musicbrainz. That could be very good thing but it is not. It has been causing a real mess on my databases destroying hours of tagging and data loss. Musicbrainz is not normalized. Their data is far from perfect. Would there be a means as to define priority? Actual file data should be preferable than anything... Thanks
  2. After solving one issue where an artist was replacing all albumartist fields of a certain name, I've ended up with a new and confusing problem. emby seems to have decided that a couple of my albumartist tags simply don't exist. The two offending albumartist tags I've discovered so far are "KarenT" and "colate". When emby scans the library, it either does not read those albumartist tags, thus leaving the album artist field blank, or is deleting them for some reason. For reference, this library has all external metadata sources turned off. This image shows all the tags assigned to one of the affected KarenT tracks (MP3Tag), and what emby sees. Note the conspicuously blank album artist. Here's the same comparison for a colate track: And, just for completeness, here's a track where everything was fine: There is no difference in the tags used that could relate to album artist, so why is emby clearing/not reading some seemingly at random?
  3. I just restarted my emby server after about a year of inactivity, and the first thing I found seems like a pretty horrendous oversight. Nearly all of my music is from ripped albums, and is nicely separated into subfolders of style(I'm a Vocaloid fan, and keep that separate from everything else), artist/publisher(for compilations), album title, disc#, songs. However, for a few lowkey release singles (i.e. things release as soundcloud downloads) they don't have an album folder, and so just sit in the artist root folder. In one fit of laziness, it turns out I dumped one song in the root folder for my entire Vocaloid music library. The file had some nonsense in its ALBUM tag... and emby decided that it should ignore all other metadata. Suddenly, I ended up with 1800 songs grouped under a single made up album. Creating a "Temp" folder and dumping the offending song into it fixed everything... Or so I thought. Remember those singles I mentioned earlier? Those ruin everything for the artist folder they sit in. A few hours later, after making sure not a single file exists outside of some sort of folder, and things seem to be working alright, but that is one hell of a piece of failed design. Just in case my explanation wasn't clear, in short: If a folder contains both subfolders and music files with a filled album tag, emby will assign the ALBUM tag of one of the music files in the folder to ALL of the music files within the subfolder, regardless of if the subfolder music files have their own ALBUM tag set.
  4. Hi Everybody, Can anybody help me figure out why some of my album artwork is not showing up in the Emby Media app? I don't rely on Emby Metadata Fetchers to get the album artwork, each of my music files has the album artwork embedded in the file itself. Most of the artwork is showing up, but about 5-10 out of every 100 albums (5-10%) is missing it's album cover. I was able to get a lot of them back by recopying the music files again to my new music location (server), overwriting the existing files with the one same files. However, I'm still missing about 2-3 out of 100 now. Thanks anybody/everybody! James
  5. So currently when downloading a playlist for offline mode, you get the songs individually instead in a playlist. So I was wondering if it was possible to fix that and download a playlist for offline in the order that it is in. So that it’s just as when online, just press and play the songs in order.

Album artist sort not ignoring "the"

I could swear this was working correctly before v4.x but I could be mistaken... Please see screenshot below -- I'm sorting by Album Artist and note that artists starting with "the" are being sorted by "the." It looks like system.xml is configured correctly (I haven't changed defaults): <SortRemoveWords> <string>the</string> <string>a</string> <string>an</string> </SortRemoveWords> Thanks!

    Music analysis plugin?

Does anyone know of a plugin or something that I could use in Emby that would provide an analysis of my music files? I'm looking for something that would create suggestion lists that are based on an analysis of the audio files themselves, rather than just genre tags (which even with MusicBrainz, are not always accurate). Honestly, I would even settle for a third party app that I could use that would output to an .m3u file that I could then dump into Emby's playlist folder at this point. Obligatory "Sorry if this has been asked before" statement.

    transcoding music

Hi, I am new to Emby, The server is installed on win10 and works pretty well on the LAN. From outside I connect with the web ui. It works as well. My upload speed is 1mb. My media library is made of flac music. As the music stops frequently I would like the flac to be transcoded to mp3 (256kbs or 128kbs) when I am outside. Any parameter for that or config file I could modify? Thanks
  9. Server: MacOS Sierra 10.12.6, v 4.0.1.0 Client: Moto G5 Plus, Android 8.1.0, v 3.0.31 This applies to music playback. Scenario 1: When I connect the Android app to remote control the Chrome web player running on the server, initially everything is fine. But if I leave everything idle for a period, say a few hours, then pick up my phone again to play something different, the "now playing" display either doesn't update or is not visible at all. Sometimes the remote-controlled player actually plays in response anyway even though there's no visual indication on the Android, sometimes not. What always solves this is choosing "disconnect" from the remote menu on Android and then reconnecting. Scenario 2: The same except I don't pause playback, I leave it playing for a few hours, then when I pick up the Android to pause it, there's no "now playing" or transport at all, meaning I can't pause it. The disconnect/reconnect always solves this too. I see that the Android app no longer saves logs -- anything else I can provide that would help diagnose? thanks
  10. A method of sorting found in the web version Emby is not present in Emby Theater and it happens to be my absolute favorite method of sorting. Please add it. Although the Album feature exist it does not allow sorting by the Artist under Albums like the web version does. As you can see the sorting is by album title only and no way to switch sorting for the artist instead while still showing album covers.

Wrong Album Artist and Track Artist

I am running Emby 4.0.1.0. Just added Lohengrin opera (3 discs) to the library. All tracks were tagged by MP3Tag according to: Album artist: Rudolf Kempe Artist: Rudolf Kempe; Wiener Philharmoniker; Wiener Staatsopernchor; Otto Wiener; Christa Ludwig; Gottlob Frick; Elisabeth Grümmer; Jess Thomas; Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau Emby correctly shows album artist on the web interface: Also it correctly links to Rudolf Kempe artist page on the album artist link under the album title. Problem occurs when track's menu (red on the above picture) is invoked and the "See Artist" option is selected. Emby will lead to other artist (Gottlob Frick) wich is also wrongly shown track detail (also in red). I had already noticed this problem on almost all albums from one other artist. Thought it could be some problem on the database upgrade. Now this occurs on a newly added album. I alredy tryied to update both artist's metadata and album metadata. Nothing seems to undo this wrong association.
  12. The Emby Theater app from the Windows Store has the overlay come up when you use the media keys, which is supposed to show the name of the song and then the album artist. The theater app is making it show the artist(s), and then the album artist. This happens with all of my songs, all of which have proper names/titles. Spotify's overlay: https://i.imgur.com/Ws3Jqrj.png Emby's overlay: https://i.imgur.com/YD90HRo.png Otherwise, it works normally. I do notice that the windows store app is quite a bit slower at starting songs, compared to the web UI or Emby Theater from the website. It's particularly slow when starting a song after playing nothing, such as first starting the app or after clicking the stop button on previous media.. If you shuffle your library, an artist, or an album, it usually starts way faster and will skip songs much quicker. Hope this is in the right section. If not, please move it for me. Thanks!

    Multiple sort capabilities

Will Emby get the capability of multiple filters? Let's say that I want to see my music library A-Z by artist name then by release date. Currently in 4.0, it shows this: Has there been any thoughts or requests to do more sort capabilities than only one option? Thanks.
  14. Hi trying to stream music via Android or iOS app from my emby server to my Denon AVR-X2000 and it does not work. The streaming destination is not being offered... But it works well with Amazon Music or e.g. the Synology Music App (DS Music)?! PMS and iOS, Android devices are on VLAN A the AVR is on VLAN B Any ideas why other apps are working and emby App does not? regards

    Songs no longer in order

I use Emby Theater a lot to play music in my home. One to three weeks ago (not exactly sure when) album tracks no longer appeared in the right order; track 1 first, next track 2, then track 3, etc... At first, if I hit "play all" when I was viewing the whole album the tracks would play in the correct order. Now if I do that, Emby will just play in a random order. Because this started happening a few weeks ago I thought I might be because of a recent update to the Emby Theater. So, I installed 3.0.5, 3.0.3, and 3.0.2 on a different computer and it's doing the same thing. If I use the web client or the Android app everything is how it should be. Since there haven't been any Server updates lately I can't help but think that I changed something but for the life of me I can't figure out what. Does anyone have any ideas?
  16. Hi, Trying not to post something that's been covered elsewhere but I'm not finding this specific issue... See screenshot below from the web app. Each track is by a different artist, but one can't tell which artist goes with which track. The artist grouping at the top seems to be alpha sorted by first name. If I select "edit metadata" for any one track, the artist for that track is shown (see second screenshot), but that's not really a solution to have to "edit" a track to see a basic piece of info. I'm counting "artist" as "basic info" I haven't checked android (or any other) native app to see if this is different there. Not sure if this is a bug or a feature request. thanks!

    Gapless Flac

Hi Everyone, Just a quick one, I have had a look in the forums but can't find what i'm looking for. Is anyone using gapless flac and how do you do it. At the moment I convert CDs into separate tracks, but I have quite a few that would be better as a whole disk. Has anyone had any success doing this? Cheers
  18. I think it would be great to be able to excude artist in Music. The main reason is for soundtracks. I want the metadata to still have all the artist so when I play my music the artist shows up, but I don't want those artist to populate in my Artist section. It is messy and annoying. When I go into my NFO file and remove the artist data then set the NFO file to read-only, and lock the data to prevent future changes in the emby server, it still replaces the file and I'm back to square one. Using version 3.5.3.0. Thanks.
  19. I am running Version 3.6.0.79 beta on Qnap. After loading my music into Emby, no alum art or metadata is shown. All of the files have been tagged with MusicBrainz Picard and are in m4a format. Here is a sample file: https://www.mediafire.com/file/ld9ekvqxh4ybd71/01_Arabian_Nights.m4a/file Why do I not see any metadata or album art?
  20. (I'm using Classical Music as an example, but this would certainly apply to other genres such as Jazz, Blues, and even some Folk) On MacOS I know of only one music player that offers comprehensive tagging of classical music, and that's the (very expensive) Roon. Tagging classical music is notoriously difficult, but here is what you need to get your foot in the door. Title Artist Album Track Number Track Length Album Artist Album Artist (Sort) Artist (Sort) Composer Composer (Sort) Conductor Conductor (sort) Genre Performer Soloist Work Movement Movement name Movement # There will seem to be a lot of repetition because the first 8 or so are used for modern music, in Classical music this is usually tagged to personal preference because it's inadequate. So if we tagged, say a Bach Concerto it might look something like this: Title: Concerto No.1 in F major BWV 1046 - I Allegro Artist: Consort of London, Robert Haydon Clark Album: Bach Edition, I: Orchestral Works/Chamber Music Track Number: 1 Track Length: 3:58 Album Artist: Johann Sebastian Bach Album Artist (Sort): Bach, Johann Sebastian Artist (Sort): Consort of London, Clark, Robert Haydon Composer: Johann Sebastian Bach Composer (Sort): Bach, Johann Sebastian Conductor: Robert Haydon Clark Conductor (sort): Clark, Robert Haydon Genre: Classical Performer: Consort of London Soloists: n/a for this piece 1. 2. 3. etc... etc... Work: Brandenburgisches Konzert {Concerto}:: Nr. 1 F-Dur, BWV 1046 {No.1 in F major …} Movement: Allegro Movement name: Allegro Movement #: 1 Here the title isn't the same as the work since the (complete) work is 4 separate tracks, also the performer, conductor and soloists are all different and could certainly all be different to the 'Artist' tag depending on how one decides to use the tags for modern music. These sorts of tags become even more important because many people who enjoy classical music have the same pieces performed by different people. Different conductors/soloists interpret different pieces in different ways. Sometimes I'm in the mood for Rachmaninoff played by Earl Wild and sometimes van Cliburn. Jazz poses some of the same problems. Old songs are played by different people, or the same people with different backup bands and soloists etc. With the limitations of tagging for modern music it gets hard to separate them all. I think Emby should seriously consider a robust tagging system that accommodates a wide range of musical styles for the simple reason that others are not doing it, and the ones that are doing it are premium (read: expensive) services. And in doing so, win a lot of music lovers to your platform.

Music Library w/ Audio books flickering

I recently installed the Emby server on my Windows 7 PC and have set up a Music library under which I have placed my audio book folders (all MP3 Audio files within their own folders). I use a Roku 2 to access Emby via the app from the Roku store. I can access and play the audio via the Roku, but when I do press play the background flickers between black, a rainbow color, and transitions between some combination of the two. All media on the screen appears and disappears, including but not limited to: buttons for Play and Stop, all images, and the entire Now Playing section at the bottom. When I back out of the Music library the images at my Home Screen continue to appear and disappear, and the background continues its psychedelic dance. My Windows 7 doesn't have this problem. Is this a known bug or did I set up my audio books incorrectly?

    Question about my library scan

Hi, I am trying Emby for the first time (been using Plex for a long time) and I have a problem with my music. Emby doesn't correctly recognize my folders. While both Plex and Emby mention that the right naming convention for the folders should be ../Artist/Album/## - TrackName , Plex has always been quite flexible. In fact, I prefer to keep my album folders sorted by year (../Artist/YYYY - Album Name/## - Trackname) Plex recognizes this structure, but I seem to be unable to achieve the same with Emby. Am I doing something wrong or is it just not possible to have this flexibility? Thank you
  23. Hi, I'm running Emby for Windows 3.5.3.0. When casting to a Samsung TV (model is UN40J5500AGXZD) by means of DLNA only first track is played. This occurs using both on web and Android apps. Please consider this is a Brazilian instalation, thus there is no Emby app for Samsung TV available. There is also another (somewhat older) DLNA issue that it would be very much of use to address as Samsung displays are very popular here. Should I include a server log?

    Chromecast Now Playing list

Very excited looking forward to the future new Emby release. I sense there will be major improvements. One issue long waited is the means to see and/or edit Chromecast now playing music list. Will it be available on this next release?
  25. Hi guys, I'm new to Emby. I notice something I never seen elsewhere on any music apps. You put the content on multiple page instead of one? Is there a reason for that? My personal opinion is to have my complete library when it come to artists...
