I have the following requests for metadata associated with people. 1) Allow per show or per library people. This would be useful for people who are not available on public metadata sources and are likely pseudonyms. 2) Add another role for the person such as character. This isn't the same as the other field. It would be for a scenario such as "Daisy" starting as "Daisy", when there isn't a mapping to "Daisy" and a real name. 3) Consider the person data to NFO or XML files stored with the library or show.

I have my 3D and 2D rips from MakeMKV (shrunk via FFMEG and/or Handbrake) and tweaked in MakeMKV_GUI (for sub and lang force/sort defaults). The files are name according to wiki: Movie Name (2023).mkv Movie Name (2023) 3D HSBS.mkv Both version served and play fine. 3D movies show meta 3D tag and are filterable. Problem: Android (phone) 3.3.40 shows "3D" after the rating. Same for Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Safari - web direct (multiple OS platforms and versions). Amazon Firestick 4K TV using Amazon's store installs 2.0.93a, which lacks the 3D indicator as well. Sideloading 3.3.40 and all Android devices good. Is there a setting in 3.3.43 (and future versions) to allow 3D to be shown on movie info view?

Hi, Is there a way for Emby to always use the name of the local file and not the name it found thanks to the metadata? For example, it happens that a file named XXXXX in the local files, is named with another name or in another language on Emby. So when I try to search for the file with the Emby search bar, it doesn't find it most of the time. There is a way to improve the search bar or to prevent Emby from changing the file name.

Possibly this is answered but I couldn't find the answer: I started a new music library in Emby and scanned it overnight. Some of the artist names are showing up as the names of the artist folder names instead of the metadata in the files. For example, the artist "Alicia Keys" is showing up in Emby as "alicia_keys". Or "Louis Armstrong" shows up as "louis_armstrong". This is a problem with most of the artists but not all of them. Some of the artists do show up correctly: "Willie Nelson" shows up correctly as "Willie Nelson". I've verified that my metadata tags are correct. Is the library still being built and I don't see that? The dashboard doesn't say anything is happening and the scheduled tasks say the media library scan was completed 11 hours ago. Any advice is appreciated.

Would we be able to add onto the statuses in Emby? I would like to see the ability to have airing, returning, cancelled, and ended.

Hi, Some of us listen to classical music and maintain extensive collections of it. Unfortunately, proper classical music sorting requires different metadata fields than pop music. For example, the composer field is not very important with pop music, but is a big requirement with classical music. Currently, Emby supports a single content type for music, which is tailored for pop music. It has views to list Artists, Album artists, Albums, Songs and Genre. I propose to create a second content type dedicated to classical music. This would be a very coherent move since there already are distinct content types for movies, series, concerts or home movies, even if they all deal with video files. The views of this new content type would better fit classical music: for example, we would be able to list music by composer or by conductor, but not by song as this does not mean anything in classical music. Furthermore, audio metadata support should be improved. Currently, Emby supports the Composer tag. That's great, but not enough to deal properly with a classical music collection. We need to support a bunch of other tags, like the Conductor, Performer and Orchestra tags. Adding support for such tags should not be very difficult, as many of them are part of the official ID3 specifications and already supported by ffprobe. Classical music support is a very important feature for me and some other people. So important that I would even pay to have it added to Emby. If I can help to build it, I would do it very happily. If developers do not wish to add those features, maybe it could be implemented by a 3rd-party plugin. In that case, could someone point me towards some kind of guide or tutorial to get started ? I know C# and .Net but have no idea about how Emby works with plugins, and how to extend the metadata schema. Thanks! Marin.

Hi, My Emby Server is running on QNAP My Emby Client is running on Android TV I would like to ask a few questions about metadata in the forum because I noticed that some are not showing / downloading maybe it's a consequence of: - I have wrong setup, then I would like to ask for help - Plugin bug? - (yet) lack of functionality Metadata: 1) Movies - I noticed that in the actor / actress detail there is only the date of birth and place of birth (eg Michael Douglas) in the description, while the IMDB or TvMovieDB contain a lot of extra information (CV, ...), other data aren't downloaded or is it some kind of bug ? Movie Library has set up Czech language. 2) Music - no metadata about the album (song list only) or about music-band is downloaded (these data are on MusicBrainz, TvAudioDb, Last.fm) - does not have a TvAudioDb identifier (does this plugin work?) - I had (05/2019) running to test Emby Server on Windows and I know the data was there there were metadata in the album.nfo file: <album> (empty now) <outline> (empty now) <audiodbartistid> (does not exist in the file now) <audiodbalbumid> (does not exist in the file now) Music Library has setup up English language (originally Czech language but I changed it to English because there are very few translations to Czech / Slovak) preferences of scrabbers MusicBrainz TvAudioDb Last.fm Proposal: Would be possible to download information about the Actor / Actress / Album / Group / Singer / Singer for example also from Wikipedia? Thank you T2

It would be very useful to link text metadata from the "Overview" section to other Emby media as well as HTML links to external content.

Hey everyone New to Emby coming from Plex. I wish I would’ve switched over to Emby sooner cause I appreciate the customization and focus on personal media. Please don’t change! The focus on moving away from personal media is what drove me away from Plex (even though I have a lifetime Plex Pass). @Carlo That said, I do have just a few questions. 1. I know of the Bulky Metadata plugin, but is it possible to hide all ratings or disable the community ratings for all of my movies and tv shows entirely? I don’t have IMDB or Rotten Tomatoes enabled so this is nearly perfect for me (I hate ratings for my own personal media). I can do this manually but with all the media I have, it would take a very long time to edit metadata one by one. Any tips here will be much appreciated! 2. On Android TV is it possible to use CSS customization? I’m mainly running Emby on my Sony X90J and it’s pretty flawless, just wondering if this is possible for a few UI tweaks I would like to make. 3. On the Android TV app, is it possible to disable “up next” from TV series view? I personally don’t like seeing episode thumbnails of episodes I haven’t watched, and would love to disable this in the TV series view. 4. Why can’t emby Direct Play VC-1 codec on Android TV? Some of my older blu-rays and TV shows use this codec and it seems to always be problematic. Thanks in advance for your help! Overall I’m super happy with the switch to Emby No major playback issues and great UI/ customization. Keep up the great work

So something weird happened when I as sorting my recorded kids shows The path to the files would be something like /mnt/library/Kids/P/"showname"/"Season" I only have the option to identify the folder /P not each show inside it. And it works just fine for all other letter folders. Any suggestions on how to fix it. If it matters, the server is on Ubuntu 22.04

Need some guidance on migrating an 8 year old metadata folder to my new UNRAID server (from a Windows Server 2012). What is the currently supported folder structure for metadata? My current metadata folder is a mess as it is so old, e.g. I have musicartists as well as artists folders and musicgenres and MusicGenre (are these two even supporrted?) etc. Once I know this, I can migrate the specific supported folders and discard the rest. Have not decided yet whether to use the Backup/Restore plugin (which will give me a clean migration with none of the baggage from my current 8 year old install) or just do a manual migration (which is very fast (a few hours compared to days, see point 2 below). Also in running some tests on the migration using the Backup/Restore plugin, I have noticed the following: The Backup/Restore plugin does not restore the read marks on manually created TV Series (i.e. ones which do not have a web metadata provider reference). This was as I suspected but is there a work around? My music media collection is so large that its is taking 3 days plus to scan all the music tracks (and then there is the photo negatives library etc!). Is there are anyway to speed this up. Thanks in advance.

TV shows library is set for TV shows. Documentaries are set as Mixed content. Movies work fine? Everything is identified fine (for the most part, I can fill in the gaps there), but the posters won't pull for some reason and I cannot figure out why. I can manually edit the image and when i search, all the usual options are available, but doing it manually for a whole library obviously isn't ideal. Thanks! Emby Log.txt

I use Emby for my anime collection since I mainly watch the series in German, and I want to have the German voice actors listed. Unfortunately, the scrapers can only find Japanese voice actors, so I'm doing the work of changing them for over 500 series. However, after a while of work, I noticed that voice actors who have a double role are being deleted, except for the first one entered. Once I update the metadata, only one voice actor is left. I'm now a bit frustrated and hope that there will be a solution for this issue.

I’ve got a strange server connectivity problem that affects the ability of Emby to update Metadata for library entries. I’ve explored the Emby forums and tried various fixes but can’t find a solution hence this post and request for ideas that might help. The Emby server [4.7.11.0] runs on an Ubuntu Server [22.04.1 LTS] connected to my LAN, Router and ISP. My ISP doesn’t offer inbound connections so, as is, I’m unable to access my Emby server remotely. To overcome this problem I use a VPN connection to the internet, with a dedicated domain name, which allows me to access the server remotely. The basic setup works fine. I can access the server locally from my LAN and remotely using the dedicated domain name/VPN. The problem is that when the VPN connection is running on the server Metadata updates on the server don’t work. All other features viewing/streaming content work but Metadata updates fail. If I stop the VPN connection on the Ubuntu server so the Emby server just sees the LAN and standard ISP connection then Metadata updates work normally. For the remote connection, the Emby server connects via an Nginx reverse proxy and Openvpn. I’ve followed the guidance elsewhere in the forums on using Nginx and remote connections [e.g. https://emby.media/community/index.php?/topic/93074-how-to-emby-with-nginx-with-windows-specific-tips-and-csp-options/] and I’ve tried with both secure [https] and non-secure [http] remote connections. The problem remains the same. I’ve attached a copy of the Emby server log showing examples where Metadata updates fail. I’d be grateful for suggestions of any further things I might to do resolve this problem. Many thanks. embyserver.txt

need way 4 EMBY not to update images associated with media
KenLinder posted a topic in General/Windows
I had an experience which pointed out (in a big way) that we are lacking a feature in "Edit Images". I told EMBY to scan for new files in a one directory of a library. Doing this killed all the metadata in that subdirectory structure (over 8000 files) including all the imported images which EMBY now has no record of. This made me aware of a problem (again). Aside from the fact that this is clearly a major BUG (the server has no need to tamper with existing metadata in order to find NEW media files) we seriously need a way to tell EMBY not to update the *images* associated with a given file. There is a check-box to tell EMBY not to update the OTHER metadata (at the bottom of the page for Edit Metadata) but there is equivalent box to click in the "Edit Images" info to tell EMBY not to 'forget' all of my carefully selected images. Right now using 'Scan' kills all my carefully selected images and unlike the rest of the metadata there is no way to tell EMBY to leave my images the hell alone. -
Hi There, Just wondering about a few issues I'm having with metadata for a group of folders. As you can see in the attached screenshots, fies are not being uploaded in the same structure as the folders on my computer. Not sure if this is a plugin or settings issue. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello All, I have a program for the longest time, called DVD Profiler by Invelos (Windows based). You may have guessed it, it is for DVDs. Behind it is a massive community fed database. Here is a screenshot. I chose "Add DVD", in the next Dialog I typed "Alien" and then picked one from the list and chose preview. In the mid window you can see how many versions there are, and that is only for "Locality = USA" and Region Code 1. How do they know that these versions are different? They know by the UPC-code on the DVD. And just like Wikipedia, users are happily feeding the database with the information on the DVD-Case. So, my idea was to tap into that database. Others have already done so, and there are plugins available for that. "HTTPJolie" is the plugin I am currently looking at, which supports HTTP-queries. But maybe there are other plugins (e.g. based on SQL) that work better. Anyway, based on their work I would like to write a plugin that can query the online database from invelos. There is a caveat though. To use the above plugins to query the DB, one has to be a registered user of DVD Profiler. I don't know if that means "paying". Nonetheless, I hope that there are people around here that are willing to help or to contribute to this project. Maybe with their time, maybe with a sample code for such a plugin, maybe with code sniplets you already have, or anything else along those lines. Please let me know here in this thread. Thank you, Roodee

Question- in library advanced settings, you can choose a custom (or default) path where to store all your libraries metadata and artwork. Additionally in each individual library settings, you have the option to "store artwork in media folders" - which explains that "Saving artwork into media folders will put them in a place where they can be easily stored and edited". I was always under the impression that by checking off the "store artwork in media folders" meant it would store the artwork etc within the folders of the media file themselves (artwork would be in the same location as the movie file etc). However this would contradict the option to store metadata in a custom path as mentioned since this wouldn't be with the media folders, and storing them in one location as as global option for all your libraries. I'm obviously missing something/not understanding the two options. If someone would be so kind to explain it to me, I would be grateful. Thanks much.

Hi, I am having this problem for a while now and tried to find the solution in former topics facing with file/folder permission issues in Linux. I think I tried a lot, but still without success. What am I trying to do? I want to save all metadata changes, made within emby, saved as an album.nfo file in the album-folder. I just want to make sure, that all changes I made are permanently saved and can be exported when necessary. My library setup My music is physically stored on a network drive, which is configured as a samba share. I mount this share with a dietpi-raspberry and emby is running on that raspberry. I checked file permissions, the mount has owner and group emby. So that should work? What did I do so far? I activated nfo as metadata reader and safer in the library. I change the album genre in emby and save it. My expectation is, that this change would reflect in an album.nfo file? But nothing happens. Log Output This is what I get: 2022-12-23 06:23:45.109 Error ProviderManager: Error in metadata saver *** Error Report *** Version: 4.7.11.0 Command line: /opt/emby-server/system/EmbyServer.dll -programdata /var/lib/emby -ffdetect /opt/emby-server/bin/ffdetect -ffmpeg /opt/emby-server/bin/ffmpeg -ffprobe /opt/emby-server/bin/ffprobe -restartexitcode 3 -updatepackage emby-server-deb_{version}_armhf.deb Operating system: Linux version 5.10.103-v7+ (dom@buildbot) (arm-linux-gnueabihf-gcc-8 (Ubuntu/Linaro 8.4.0-3ubuntu1) 8.4.0, GNU ld (GNU Binutils for Ubuntu) 2.34) #152 Framework: .NET 6.0.8 OS/Process: arm/arm Runtime: opt/emby-server/system/System.Private.CoreLib.dll Processor count: 4 Data path: /var/lib/emby Application path: /opt/emby-server/system System.UnauthorizedAccessException: System.UnauthorizedAccessException: Access to the path '/mnt/MusicLibrary/iTunes/Queen/Jazz/album.nfo' is denied. ---> System.IO.IOException: Permission denied --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.IO.RandomAccess.WriteAtOffset(SafeFileHandle handle, ReadOnlySpan`1 buffer, Int64 fileOffset) at System.IO.Strategies.BufferedFileStreamStrategy.FlushWrite() at System.IO.Strategies.BufferedFileStreamStrategy.Dispose(Boolean disposing) at System.IO.Stream.Dispose() at NfoMetadata.Savers.BaseNfoSaver.SaveToFile(Stream stream, String path, LibraryOptions libraryOptions, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at NfoMetadata.Savers.BaseNfoSaver.Save(BaseItem item, LibraryOptions libraryOptions, CancellationToken cancellationToken) at Emby.Providers.Manager.ProviderManager.SaveMetadata(BaseItem item, LibraryOptions libraryOptions, ItemUpdateType updateType, IMetadataSaver[] savers, CancellationToken cancellationToken) Source: System.Private.CoreLib TargetSite: Void WriteAtOffset(Microsoft.Win32.SafeHandles.SafeFileHandle, System.ReadOnlySpan`1[System.Byte], Int64) InnerException: System.IO.IOException: Permission denied Source: TargetSite: My question: What could possibly still go wrong? I'm banging my head on a wall here, but.... I've updated some metadata for a folder of "Christmas" music to be Various Artists for the Album Artist tag in several albums. Emby refuses to recognize these changes, even as I've: Completed deleted the folder off my drive and re-added it Deleted the metadata folder out of Emby Gone into my Synology Emby folder and deleted anything I could find there related to said albums Emptied recycle bins Renamed the folder entirely This is actually getting to be ridiculous at this point. The library clearly scans properly, as it does notice when I've put the music files back on my drive. But the metadata is still the same as it was before, even though the file it's scanned is literally saying something different at this point. It's like there's a ghost metadata folder somewhere I'm completely missing and I'm starting to lose my mind. Where else can I look to clear this so it will actually read the correct, current metadata out of the files?

Hi all, I'm faced with metadata and pictures loading problem since the beginning of November (Synology NAS DS920+). For the sake of interest, I connected the NAS via VPN (Netherland) and all the pictures (movie descriptions) loaded immediately. Please specify the addresses of the sites from which metadata and images are downloaded, I will add their routing via VPN on the router.

Emby changes Year field on Music Videos when saving metadata
ramseyn posted a topic in General/Windows
I wanted to show year and band name under icons on music videos, so I turned those on. It became immediately apparent that the year shown was often not the year that should be in the metadata. Assuming I had done something wrong, I went through an exercise of manually updating all the incorrect Year fields, one by one. Frequently (not always) I would enter a year, click save and the resulting display on the icon page would then show the year between 1 and 3 years earlier than the year I just entered in the metadata. Opening the metadata again for that video, the Year field was indeed changed from what I entered. It makes no difference whether the "Lock this item to prevent future changes" is ticked or not so it doesn't appear to be changing it due to external metadata. This doesn't happen with every video I manually update, but I would roughly estimate 40% display this behaviour. Going back into the metadata and changing it a second time seems to always fix it. Browser: Opera Operating system: 64-bit Windows 10, version: 91.0.4516.77 Emby server version: 4.7.8.0 running on Asustor (Nimbustor) NAS embyserver (1).txt -
I'm running into an issue getting metadata and images for content being added to my library. The short-short is that it works fine when I first start emby but at some point, the indexer (such as Fanart.tv, TMDB, etc.) starts blocking ("connection refused") the requests. Most of the time, powering off the box for a couple minutes and then bringing it back up clears the problem for a time. Sometimes connections are still refused and the restart process has to be repeated. The frequency in which this happens ranges from hours to days and I'm struggling to catch a correlation between the incidents and library change volume. This seems like a threshold issue in that my configuration is generating too many requests, but I'm not seeing it. Libraries are configured for real time monitoring with advance pulls. Looking at scheduled tasks status' I see they are only firing when content is added. In reviewing my configuration it also raised a question or two. So, here I am, asking for advice from those who love and know emby on what I'm missing and how to correct this. For the questions, the 2 biggest are; 1) How does emby generate/maintain API keys for the various indexers? In looking at several generations of the server logs I see that the key is consistent for each indexer. Is the key unique to each emby installation or shared by all installations? The latter could be significant in my configuration as I route most all of my internet traffic, emby and otherwise, through a commercial VPN. My ISP knows enough about me and my family. They don't need to know more. 2) Is it possible to use my own api keys for the indexers? If so, how? NOTE: I'd really rather not have to go this route. SERVER INFO: NOTE: All external requests do go through a VPN Thanks in advance for any assistance you all can offer.

Hi, I have set up a mixed content folder and now try to manually correct the incorrect data. However, it is not possible to change a wrong identified tv show to a movie based on the ID, because the ID will only select tv. Can this be changed?

One of the supported TV file naming conventions is: 02 Episode Name.extFor a show that airs every weekday, the episode number often grows to three digits. For example: /Some Show/Season 2/123 Some Title.m4v Emby mis-identifies the file above as Some Show, Season 1 (even though it is in the Season 2 folder), Episode 23 (even though the filename has the number 123 in it). Is it really not possible to support this format for three digit episode numbers?
