Thinking of getting the NEXBOX T10 to run as a dedicated server
phi303 posted a topic in Non-Emby General Discussion
I was looking for a low-cost solution for something that would just run 24/7 with low power consumption and ran into the NEXBOX T10. I don't need any transcoding (i think) as most my devices play media through KODI. Thoughts on the hardware? $87 seems preetty decent for a bare bones box with included hdd and windowsOS. About my current setup: Library is on a NAS, livingroom's got a on-24/7-macMini running KODI; bedroom uses FireTV4K with KODI; main PC runs emby server. Started emby on the PC but thought the macMini would be better since it's lower power consumption so I migraged over low and behold OSX has been a pain in the butt, the latest OSX doesn't refresh network directories without unmounting and remounting anymore so when I add new media to the NAS, emby sees it but OSX does not which results in KODI showing the episode but when played it's "missing" pain in the butt I tell you! I've now since migrated the server back to my main PC and everything seems be fine but I'm still looking for a low-power, low-cost, always-running solution. Related question: when I'm streaming my library through the emby app (either on my android phone, my ipad, what have you) does it transcode? -
I am just another user converting from Plex, seems like a trend here. From what I have seen so far I am very impressed. My environment unraid 6.1.8 server with the official docker running. It is launched with this command: docker run -d --name="EmbyServer" --net="host" -e APP_UID="99" -e APP_GID="100" -e TZ="America/New_York" -p 8096:8096/tcp -v "/mnt/user/config/emby":"/config":rw -v "/mnt/user/Video/":"/mnt":rw emby/embyserver All seems to be going good accept I cannot playback video over https port 8920 on a Mac running OS 10.11.3 and Safari browser version 9.0.3. Any video I play just gives a video playback error. When connected to the host with http and port 8096 all is well and I can play back video just fine. This seems specific to the Safari browser with https. I can play back video in Chrome on Mac with https just fine, or on Windows. This is not a deal breaker for me but I just wanted to provide my feedback/log in case others have noticed this. I took a glance through the thread here and did not see a post. Keep up the great work and I am glad I have made the switch. It seems to work on other browsers to connect to https even though port 8920 is not exposed in the docker run command above so would not think that is it. 2016-02-18 18:39:45.2336 Info HttpServer: HTTP POST https://192.168.1.9:8920/emby/Sessions/Capabilities/Full. Complete newbee here. Just installed Emby on Mac OS X (10.7.5). Set it all up (I think) and added movies. Using an Android phone to ensure things are working correctly, downloaded the emby app. videos thumbnails and details show up but every time I play them, the green Emby logo spins then gives me a "Playback Error". There was a error processing the request. The videos are .m4v codec.

Hello, I am in the process of moving from Plex to MediaBrowser, and have noticed that the server load when transcoding is rather extreme. Server: MediaBrowser Server Version 3.0.5518.3 Hardware: Mac Mini (2011) with 2.7GHz Intel Core i7 with 8GB RAM running OSX 10.9.5 Client: Nexus 7 (Android 5.0.2) running MediaBrowser version 2.2.03 Network: Same subnet, Nexus 2 meters away from high speed access point with 1GE link to MacMini Symptom: ffmpeg using 372% CPU, Mac Mini getting warm, fan going full speed. The file being transcoded is as follows. Have not changed any default transcode settings. Server set to "Auto". Codec: H264 Profile: High Level: 41 Resolution:1920x1080 Aspect ratio:16:9 Anamorphic: No Interlaced: No Framerate: 23.97602 Bitrate: 10732 kbps Bit depth: 8 bit Pixel format: yuv420p Ref frames: 4 CABAC: Yes Pictures of system load: While transcoding, extreme load: After transcoding, normal load: As you can see it's a huge difference. I have run Plex Media Server for a few years, and it manages to transcode multiple sessions to multiple different clients without getting the same extreme load. Is this due to a horrible misconfiguration on my end, or a bug in how MediaBrowserServer on OSX uses ffmpeg? Attached is what I presume to be the correct transcode log. Please advise - this is my first experience with Media Server, and first day of using it, and as I didn't find this referenced anywhere, I figured this would probably be the place to ask. Thanks much in advance! transcode.log

Hi, I'm a recent convert from Plex, mainly due to the open source nature of MediaBrowser. I was very happy to see a Mac version of MB Server, and would be even happier to learn if there are any plans for a Mac OSX version of the MB Theatre as well? In our house we use a Mac Mini as a server, and various other Mac Minis as set top boxes / Home Theaters, and would be absolutely delighted to be able to continue using these with MediaBrowser. Is there any interest besides me for a Mac version of the MB Theatre? Is anyone already working on this? Would it be an incentive with a kickstarter or similar campaign for it? Unfortunately I have zero programming skills, but apart from that I'd like to contribute any way I can. As you can see I'm very new here, so any pointers or insights would of course be greatly appreciated - thanks again for a great media solution, and for making it open source! -Florux

I am just starting out with MB3 and wondered what would be the best format for streaming with an Ipad? I have been dumping my videos down to my computer in .vob file. They show up and even pull down movie artwork and description but they will not play. Does anyone know what what format would do the same but be viewable with an Ipad? thanks
