I am a relatively new Emby user. There are several things that I find confusing when I try to record shows from Live TV. Due to my lack of understanding it's frustrating not to be able to do scheduled recordings reliably. When this feature works for me, it works really well, but it doesn't always work! It's a very good product and potentially a great product but I need help in understanding what's going on. Here are a few of the issues that confuse me: On one night I may use the Guide to schedule a recording and it behaves as expected (i.e. the recorded program shows up the next day in Recorded TV or in TV Recordings with appropriate metadata images, it replays correctly, etc.) The next day, I may repeat the exact same process and the program fails to record. Tuners were available in both cases, Emby was up and running, no network problems, etc. I am confused by the two very similar menu tabs on the Emby console Live TV screen – TV Recordings and Recorded TV. Some of my recorded content shows up in one place, and some in the other, but the content is not always the same in both places. What is the difference in these two menu tabs? It appears that metadata displayed for recorded content in these locations does not update immediately, but usually appears several hours later when a scheduled refresh occurs. Sometimes doing a manual refresh will populate the folders with metadata, and other times it does not. When I set up my PC a few months ago, I installed a solid-state hard drive and used it for the operating system (currently Windows 10). I intended to separate my user data from OS data and place it on the original hard drive that came with the computer – re-assigned to drive letter "E". I set up a folder for Emby on the "E" drive for recorded TV because I didn't want multi-gigabytes of recorded data stored on the system drive. However, when I updated to the latest Emby server the location apparently got changed back to the default location on the system drive (C:\Users|<name>\AppData\Roaming\Emby-Server\data\livetv\recordings\...). I added the second location back in Emby (E:\Recorded TV\TV\Series\...) and now I can't predict which location the recorded ".ts" files will be saved in. "Sometimes they're in one location, other times in the other location.) Do my TV recordings really need to be stored on the system drive? I would appreciate your advice and suggestions on how to simplify things and increase reliability.

Selecting play from guide causes loading animation that eventually times out
FordGT90Concept posted a topic in Windows & Xbox
Steps to reproduce: Start Emby Theater Click on Live TV Click on... Program under "Now Playing" and it works fine. Guide -> the title of the program that is on now -> Play and it shows loading animation but doesn't playback the program. Server log attached. I tried the latter at about 3:37 and 3:40, maybe 3:42 too. Then I tried the Former two times after that. Every subsequent test was the latter. server-63615369600.txt -
It was working fine for months and in the last 2 weeks, live tv retrieve progress bar moves a little then just brings back the play screen. All my other media on the emby server plays fine including recorded tv shows. Only live tv is broken. I'm using an HDHomeRun Prime with cable card. Emby server is running on Win 7 with ServerWMC. Box is an Intel I7 CPU.

I just bought a TCL Roku TV (uses built-in Roku interface as the primary control for the TV). I've been using the Emby Streaming Channel (app) on several Roku 2 and 3 devices with no problems to watch live TV (using the Emby server with Silicon Dust HDHomeRun Prime cablecard network tuners). For the most part, Roku looks and works exactly the same on the TCL TV. However, some (but not all) of the Live TV channels are not streaming. They start to load and appear to be buffering, but they never start playing. Hitting the Roku back button displays a message in the Emby app saying that the media player closed prematurely. Several channels work normally, but others do not. These same channels ALL work on a Roku 2 or 3 device. Is there a setting that needs to be changed in the Emby server to eliminate this problem?

The Schedule tab under Live Tv is blank. This happens on both the Emby app for iOS and all browsers. I believe 3.0.8100 had this problem as well. If I pick a series from the Series tab and scroll down, the scheduled recordings for that series are shown, so I can confirm Emby is getting the series and scheduled recordings from ServerWMC. ServerWMC service and plugin are up to date, and I have tried a clean reinstall of Emby server.

1. Prompt to load more guide data at midnight of each day: Instead of doing 9 hours from right now, always load from now to midnight then ask to load the next 24 hours. Reason? If you're checking what's on this evening ("prime time") before noon, you're in for a world of annoyance hitting the "load next 9 hours" prompt which is around 7-9pm. After midnight, most networks go to repeats or dead air. 2. Lock the cursor to whatever time the user selected before moving down/up: Went to 7 pm to see what was on during "prime time" but as you click down the list, it could select a football game or movie that runs many hours that ends at, say, 7:30. This moved the cursor back to when the game/movie started which could be, say 4 pm. Keep scrolling down and you could literally travel back in time 7-9 hours to real time (was about 1 pm if memory serves) because the cursor doesn't look to the time you were looking at (7 pm). 3. Display the program info if the program info is off screen to the left: An extension of #2, when there is something long in the guide, it should display the info that is off screen (to the left) to the screen (to the right) so you can see that it is the tail end of, for example, a football game without having to look at the guide information for it.

Sorting channels works but it doesn't sort subchannels as well
FordGT90Concept posted a topic in General/Windows
In the attached picture, you can see 4, 9, 14, 27, and 44 are correctly sorted but 9.4, 9.2, 9.1, and 9.3 are out of order. I've seen them out of order in Emby Home Theater and in the web UI.- 1 reply

Having an issue with Live TV not working in Chrome (and maybe others), haven't tried yet. Still using NPVR on a Win 10 machine with internal Hauppauge card. The NPVR app works fine with Guide and Live TV playing. I recently reinstalled the Hauppauge software which also updated the driver. The Hauppauge app still has this habit of starting by itself so I disabled it in the Windows Startup list / thingy. I removed and reinstalled the NPVR plug-in but Emby won't show any guide or any Live TV. NPVR is latest release and am on latest Emby dev version. Any ideas please. Apologies for all the logs, but no idea which one to pick. server-63612285582.txt server-63612285577.txt server-63612285661.txt server-63612285667.txt server-63612289462.txt server-63612289603.txt server-63612289736.txt

My series recording schedule has picked up some problems. I deleted a series recording schedule but the series still shows up in the list of scheduled recordings. Checking the logs, there is an entry showing the attempt to delete the series schedule was attempted but could not complete because the root entry was missing. I would like to know how to clear out the entire list of scheduled recordings so I can set up a new list of recordings from a fresh start. A recording schedule "reset button" would be nice but I don't think that's been put in place yet. Log file attached. server-63612035666.txt

I recently purchased a HDhomerun Dual so I can watch Livetv using my OTA antenna and Emby. I was able to setup the device on my network (hard wired) and got it to work using the Silicon Dust "HDHomerun" App for Windows 10. The tuner detected several channels for my location here in Toronto, Canada. I then configured Livetv in Emby for the Tuner and selected Schedules Direct as my guide provider. I provided the userid, password, country, postal code and antenna for the Schedule Direct information. I have refreshed the data guide several times and tested again the next day but I get no channel information. I am a newbie at this and tried looking for information on how to setup the HDhomerun tuner for OTA antenna but could not find anything. At this time, all I want to do is watch live TV and don't need the DVR functionality. I have included the log file. Any help would be much appreciated. server-63611909495.txt

Luke On the Live TV->Settings page, can you amend "TV Movies" to either "TV & Movies" or similar please, so that it's clearer. As it stands at the moment, it can be interpreted as metadata for "TV Movies" only. I know it's been like this for ages, but I keep forgetting to post about it. Thanks.

Hi, I'm new to Emby hoping to move from Plex. I currently have a MediaPortal set up as a backend for ArgusTV, but if Emby can do everything instead from a frontend point of view that would be better. I have tried installing the plugin for MediaPortal through the web interface, however keep getting a notification saying it has failed. Could this be linked to this issue? MediaPortal and MPExtended are both installed and working, set up from using ArgusTV. I am able to install other plugins with no issue. Thanks, Chris

Hello, since today the DVBVIEWER Live TV Plug-In is not working any more. Seems like there are some disputes going on between the EMBY Team (Luke?) and the Plug-In Developer (?). Can you please speak with each other and try to find a solution for your disagreements. Please don't blame the poor users. The DVBVIEWER Plug-In as it was worked quite good for me and was a major reason why I choose EMBY and not PLEX for my personal media server. Regards, Andi

Difference between Emby Theater and Emby Fire TV Apps for Live TV
lcasadonte posted a topic in Live TV
I have posted several times on some issues with LiveTV and the FIRETV emby app using the hdhomerun extend (new version latest firmware beta3 now and latest emby server Version 3.1.154.0 beta). While I believe most of my issues are being caused by poor signal quality and how ffmpeg processes it I decided to install the latest emby theater on my windows 8.1 pc and immediately noticed it played video better than my tv tuner and emby app for firetv. I can play video on channels the tv wont play or tune at all (sound is another issue). So my question is why can emby theater play the video stream better than the emby firetv app and are their further things I can do now to improve the quality of the firetv livetv video experience (maybe changing out the player on the firetv or somehow getting logs from emby theater and comparing them to the firetv logs - just not sure how to do this in emby theater). Again help is much appreciated and thanks in advance. -
Hi, Running the latest (classic) Emby Theater on Windows 10 When trying to playback Live TV (or recordings for that matter) I get greeted by an endless spinning rainbow loading icon. Playback never starts. However, I notice an ffmpeg instance is started and keeps running. The backend is running tvheadend, which has tuned to the channel and is outputting data to the ffmpeg instance. Playback of movies / shows works perfectly fine. After I try playing back Live TV, nothing works anymore after that. Not movies, not shows, nothing. Quitting the app also keeps a process running in Windows, making it unable to start again. Forcefully ending the process allows me to start it again. The ffmpeg instance keeps on running forever. On the server dashboard, this action is not visible. There is indication the client ever tried to play live tv, or that a transcode session is running. Live TV - Additional audio track aac/ac3 option on remuxing recordings
mlongpre posted a topic in Feature Requests
Hello there Emby Team, Using my HDHomerun Extend, the option to "Automatically convert recordings to a streaming friendly format" used with the option "Preserve original audio when converting recordings (when possible)" creates a file, either mp4 or mkv, with the original ac3 (dolby digital) audio track. This file usually needs transcoding if sending to a player without ac3 capabilities. What I'm proposing is what I used to do for my AppleTV/iOS files. Basically have two audio tracks in the file. One being a converted aac 2-channel track as well as the original ac3 track from the HDHomerun. That way we can maybe avoid some transcoding as the server would choose which audio track to play based on the output capabilities? If ac3 capable, choose the ac3 track, if not ac3 compatible like on web browsers, ios and some players, choose the 2-ch aac track. Does this sound like a possible feature? Thanks for your time. Marc -
Every morning when I get up my server's fans are going full speed (which only usually happens during transcoding). A quick look into task manager's performance tab shows that my I5-4670K is CONSTANTLY running at 99% (which NEVER happens). I then take a peek at the processes tab and the culprit is media browser server. If I kill the application the CPU performance returns to normal and the fans return to their normal morning silence. I LOVE media browser, but I'm afraid it's going to blow up my computer. This happens every morning since I've updated to server version 3.0.5518.7. Also new with 3.0.5518.7.... My Roku gets stuck on the loading screen until you reboot it and all of my live TV channels have the same channel logo. If i re-install the previous sever version, everything works perfectly until it automatically updates its self back to 3.0.5518.7 and then the problems start all over again. Please Help!!!! server-63561110400.txt

3.0.6070.0 Live TV not working as of 3.0.6070.0 & 20160630atest2
FordGT90Concept posted a topic in Android TV / Fire TV
As per the recommendation on another thread, I upgraded the firmware from 2015something to 20160630atest2 (not seeing how to downgrade it). This fixed the problem on Emby Theater's ability to DirectPlay but it completely decimated Android and Android TV support. It should be noted that I upgraded Emby Server from 3.0.6060.0 to 3.0.6070.0 at the same time. I attached the server log. The Leelbox MXQ Pro device it is sending it to does require transcoding done on the server. -Android TV (attached) gives an error and stops transcoding on the server almost immediately. -Android maybe only shows one frame that was transcoding and it locks up while the server continues to transcode oblivious that it is falling on deaf ears. -Emby Theater does DirectPlay with no issues. leelbox.zip- 36 replies

Completed Live TV Recording - Default Naming Scheme for Daily Programs
blade005 posted a topic in Feature Requests
Can we get a Default Naming Scheme for recordings that are Daily Series that are unique? Something similar to what WMC does with all Recordings. Series Name_RecordDate_RecordStartTime This would only be for recordings marked as Series in Guide Data, that don't have Season and Episode number information. (Daily Talk Shows, Daily News Shows) This would give unique Identifiers for Daily Episodes and/or Multiple Episodes within a day. Just a thought. -
Recordings are suddenly failing or are incomplete. I had a few programs set to record and all the files are less than 4 min. I restarted the computer and server, cleared the record que and bad recordings and set a test recording on a different channel. It too only recorded for 3 min then it stops. Also looks a bit corrupted videoplayback. My last successful recording was 2 days ago 7-30-16 at 10:30am. The server has updated beta versions a few times since then i believe. Edit: also noticed that live tv streaming was failing. I noticed Intel Quick Sync was set in the Transcode settings for Hardware acceleration(has been enabled for sometime with no issues), Set it to none, restarted...and i got live to tv to stream in Chrome again. I set a random test recording...will see if that works. Edit: One 30 min recording worked fine, but a 1hr program stopped at 37min. server-63605658987.txt server-63605652966.txt remux 1.txt remux2.txt

I'm looking at the best way to distribute a TV feed across a number of identical smart devices in my home. I have a dual TV tuner hooked up to TVHeadend, using the relevant plugin to provide TV Guide and Live Streaming. My question relates to how best to keep hardware utilization down - transcoding the stream is CPU intensive, each stream using up to 25% of all available CPU time on the retired i7 2nd gen laptop I've put in place to run this. Assuming 2 or more of the devices want to watch the same live channel - is there a way that each can receive the same transcoded 'chunk' of data? Latency differences between the devices would be minimal, and in different rooms, I don't see this being an issue anyway if it meant they went out of sync. I'd quite like to put this forward at my workplace - they have recently gone through the process of licensing us for TV and relevant performance rights etc. and have put Roku's on each TV so we can stream sporting events such as the Euros, Wimbledon and the Olympics etc. but to feed the 12 screens would require some serious CPU horsepower. The network is up to it, but I'm not sure I'd have the compute to cope. I look forward to your insight. James

Using internal Emby tuner, every channel is transcoding instead of direct play...
kmanus posted a topic in Live TV
Now that Channel mapping is supported in the internal live TV implementation, I made the switch today from NextPVR. I use QAM for cable so NextPVR was my only option prior to the most recent update. NextPVR always transcoded when I used it, so I always ended up putting the direct stream address from the HDhomerun prime into my player software (MPC-HC) to avoid transcoding. Not the most glamorous solution but my streams remained direct. To my surprise, Emby's internal implementation is also transcoding live TV streams. Bandwidth is not an issue. Is there a setting somewhere where I can set to prefer direct play?- 5 replies

All 3 phones have the same version of the app and all now show error. Stream on PC via Chrome still works fine. I have restart the phones, Emby server and the PC the server is installed upon. Still having issues. Logs attached. Log.txt Log (1).txt LogServer.txt
