  1. Hi there! First of all, congratulations on Emby. It's an amazing piece of software. That being said, I'm having a little annoying problem: I can't get the external subtitles in Kodi on OpenELEC (Raspberry Pi) via DLNA to work. I've tried everything I could. The weird thing is that the subtitles work just fine in Kodi in the same machine where I run Emby Server, wich means, I believe, the subtitles are ok. It makes me think it's something in the DLNA process, but what do I know? Better ask the specialists, right? Hahaha I've also tried to send them to my Sony SmarTV and had no luck either. Any help would be very welcome. Thank you.
  2. When I try to stream videos from my emby server (latest stable version) through kodi addon using http (didn't try through UNC paths), special characters appears with ? instead of the characters. Also that only happens with emby/emby addon/kodi, plex/plexbmc/kodi works fine with the same subs... Subtitles are Brazilian Portuguese. Is there any fix for that or only converting the subtitle to UTF-8 would solve it? I have a script that downloads the subtitles automatically, and I really wouldn't like to have this extra step of fixing subtitles after downloading them... Thanks Cassio EDIT: Please let me know if I should provide any log file
  3. Hi, First, thanks for making this product. 4. Hello, Comming from PLEX, I'm testing emby now. It's quit impressive, but I have some questions. My movie library is organized in folders per movie. Each folder contains a *.nfo file, containing relevant information. My metadata agent is configured as follows: Server -> Metadata -> Metadata readers -> 1. Nfo 2. Emby Xml (see also attachment) For testing purposes, I added some custom text in the nfo before creating a new library: However, after a scan, the custom metadata does NOT appear on my movie The *.nfo has the same name as the movie *.mkv Do I something wrong? Kind regards, Bart
  5. Hi, I am running Kodi 15.1 with Emby 1.1.13. I am trying to play a 3D movie in 2D/monoscopic mode but it's not working. In Kodi, the 3D icon is shown next to the movie and looking in the metadata manager, I can see Emby has correctly marked this movie as 3D. When I am on the same network and "Play from http instead of SMB" option is unchecked in plugin settings, Kodi gives me a choice between 2D/3D and everything is fine. But when I am connecting to my server over the Internet and I have checked the "Play from http instead of SMB" option or I have this option checked and I am on the same network, the movie is not being detected as 3D in Kodi and it just plays as is. My two cents is that the 3D status of the movie is being detected by Kodi from the filename (which works over smb but not http) instead of an entry in MyVideo93.db (I assume this is where the 3D icon is coming from). I should also note I am using https. Please chime in...

Guest Stars Not Appearing in Kodi

I've noticed that since I told Emby to add guest stars to the metadata, they aren't appearing in Kodi via the Emby addon. The guest stars appear in the Emby web client, but if I go to Kodi, it's only showing the regular cast for an individual episode. The only way I have gotten them to appear in Kodi is to use Ember Media Manager to scrape the info from TVDB and export it to an NFO. Even though it is the exact same information from the TVDB, the guest actors showed up in Kodi when I used that method. Is this a known issue with the Emby for Kodi addon or is there something wrong on my end?
  7. I have been using WD/Roku boxes in the past and am looking to a long term solution. I have 2 1080p displays w/HDMI. 1 has a soundbar and 1 is just builtin speakers (which ). I use emby, netflix, pandora amazon and youtube (more or less in that order). My intial impulse is to grab 2 Intel NUC's and load them with ubuntu w/kodi for my 2 displays- but I have never done this kind of build. I am partial to open source - and OpenELEC didn't seem as robust as kodi. So I have some rather amateurish questions: What is the kind of low end solution to streaming 5.1 audio? I am looking at Home Theatres in a box, specifically Onkyo because I was told their build quality is worth it. I read somewhere that computers often convert audio to 2 streams before pushing it over HDMI. The whole point is I want 5.1 is to get that spatial aspect - so that would completely defeat the point. I have never built an HTPC, can i consolidate remotes? How do you consolidate remotes when you have IR and RF remotes. I prefer RF or wireless but don't have enough knowledge of IR/RF blasters/recievers and how they interact with both hardware and software. Please excuse my ignorance! thanks!
  8. Does the Emby for Kodi addon set extrafanart for music to something like Container.Art(extrafanart), where it can be accessed everywhere throughout a skin?
  9. I am using Emby for Kodi 1.1.53, and in my music library, when I sort music albums after "Tracks", multidisc albums don't get split up into their individual albums. The titles are ordered like 01 - foo 01 - foobar 02 - foofoo 02 - foofoobar ... This same thing worked without problems when scanning the same audiofiles directly to kodi. Music is properly tagged, either MP3 or FLAC, with the disc tag set.
  10. Hi everyone! Today I've upgraded my homeserver build and started my library from scratch, as the old one was quite messy. As a part of that cleanup action, I also wiped my Kodi installation and tried installing everything from scratch again, including the Emby addon. The authentication against my Emby server seems to work great, however not a single sync occurs and all sections remain empty without any items. I am running the Emby Addon v1.1.55 together with Kodi Isengard 15.2. I've attached a censored logfile which I took after setting the loglevel of the addon to debug. Aside from an issue with OpenWeatherMap (Emby also doesn't work if I disable that addon), the following stacktrace seems to describe the actual problem: 22:07:47 T:1730315384 ERROR: Exception in thread Thread-7: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/home/jenkins/workspace/Android-ARM/tools/depends/xbmc-depends/arm-linux-androideabi-android-17/lib/python2.6/threading.py", line 532, in __bootstrap_inner File "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.emby/resources/lib/LibrarySync.py", line 1119, in run libSync = self.FullLibrarySync() File "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.emby/resources/lib/LibrarySync.py", line 74, in FullLibrarySync utils.createSources() File "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/org.xbmc.kodi/files/.kodi/addons/plugin.video.emby/resources/lib/Utils.py", line 193, in createSources etree.ElementTree(root).write(xmlpath, method="html") TypeError: write() got an unexpected keyword argument 'method' Thanks in advance for your help, I hope that I didn't answer a stupid question Best regards NeoXiD kodi-20150811-2217.log

    Emby on Insignia Roku TV

Hi, I just got an insignia Roku TV and am trying to figure out how to run Emby. I've never used Emby before today so as I am trying to set it up on my TV I am stuck on the add server step. Where Do I get a server? Ultimately I am trying to set it up so I can add live TV channels to the Roku app and use Emby as a interface for my local media. I have used Kodi on my HTPC up until now.
  12. I have been using the built-in Emby DVR feature with mixed results and am currently evaluating the HDHomerun DVR as a backup/alternative method for recording live TV. (To digress briefly, here's my reason for exploring an alternative — Built-in Emby DVR usually works with my HDHomerun Prime, but when I'm recording more than one program at a time, or if I'm just browsing Emby media content, the recordings frequently fail or hang in the active recording state.) The early access HDHomerun DVR software currently uses an add-in for Kodi as its recording user interface, and I really don't like the way it works. However, the recording feature is rock solid and I haven't had a failed recording yet. Here's the problem: I want to store the HDHomerun DVR recorded files in a folder that will allow them to be played back by an Emby client (specifically Roku). If I create a sub-folder in the Recorded TV section, Emby apparently does not support playback of the file because it is not in the expected .ts container format, and it does not attempt to download metadata for the file. (The HDHomerun DVR format is plain old MPEG.) I got around this problem by storing the MPEG-formatted files in the Emby Movies section in a sub-folder called _HDHomerun DVR. This allows me to play the recordings on Roku, However, because Emby thinks the recorded MPEG files are movies, it either attaches the wrong metadata or no metadata at all. It uses movie databases rather that tv databases to search for information. So, to summarize this long post — Is there a way to get Emby to automatically apply TV metadata to an mpeg file?

Hi, I have used Emby for Kody quite a time now but in the last weeks it didn't work well anymore. when I play a video it starts to lag after a little while, then it pauses. I stream the Videos over the Internet but my bandwidth cannot me the problem because I have 100Mb/s and with other clients it works well (Android, Webclient, ...) I have already reinstalled the Server and and the Raspberry with OSMC and have the current stable release Server and Emby for Kodi. Please give me some advice. Thanks PeaceTrain

    Adding Emby media to submenu

Hi, I am currently using Kodi 14.2 on Raspberry Pi 2. I have sorted all my files into categories onto Emby and used Emby for Kodi add-on. I would like to know if there is a way to add specific videos from Emby to the Kodi submenu [on any custom skins]? For example, I would like to put my English Series, Korean Series and Japanese Series under TV Shows in Kodi. Thus, when i click TV Shows, the drop down menu or selection menu should be those three. However, I am not sure on how to do this. Can anyone help me? Thank you.

Emby for Kodi - No Access to Music

Hey all; I've been using Emby since it was Media Browser 2, so I'm pretty familiar with it. That being said, it's my first time attempting to get it to work using Kodi as a front-end for it. I'm attempting to do so on a relatively new platform too -- the nVidia Shield Android TV. Initial setup seemed relatively painless: Copy the .zip to a USB thumbdrive Install Emby Add-on from .zip Install Emby Add-on from Repository (picked Music Add-on/Video Add-on, and a couple other options as well) Kodi auto-detected my server, and I selected the user that I wanted to use for this profile Scanning of my library began At first, Kodi had detected all of my songs, but none of them would show up under the Music heading. I knew that it had detected them all because when I clicked into Settings, it would give me a count of them in the header. After some playing around however, most of them show up. Some of them aren't listed properly... some are listed as "Singles" ... but that's a different issue, and appears to be one that the community is aware of. My main problem is that none of the files actually play any music. They all work correctly from Emby, and even from Kodi when I install it on my phone, and attempt to go through the same process, however, when I try from the Android TV device, I get an error message saying that it couldn't locate the next file to play. At this point in time, I'm not sure if music is supported by the add-on, but I wanted to report this issue, and find out if anyone else is having troubles with this also. FYI: I've tried adjusting a number of the settings - such as ones to stream instead of directly accessing the files through the network. After adjusting these types of settings, I've done full database resets from the add-on, manually synching etc... all to no avail. I've also tried modifying the way that my libraries are configured in Emby. I've tried using UNC paths, and I've tried configuring them using the standard Windows paths as well. It should also be noted that video files have no troubles playing, the only problem is with Music. It should also be noted that music files were my main motivating factor for attempting to use Kodi as a front-end, as I believe that the Android TV app doesn't yet support music. Hopefully it will one day. Also, hopefully I'm correct in assuming that it's not supported by the Emby for Android TV app. I haven't found a way to get it to work there yet either. Thanks for any help you can provide. Paste of my log file is included at the following link: http://pastebin.com/sWZ7QXJJ
  16. First of all, let me say that I searched the forum and haven't found anything that covers this topic. I have a few questions regarding the setup of Emby together with Kodi when they are running on the same machine, to be precise, a headless Ubuntu-based HTPC. I scanned my video files to Emby, they show up just fine on the server side. Emby fetches all the artwork properly, including extrafanart and extrathumbs. I use the Kodi addon (1.1.53) and want to get direct playback running as smooth as possible. As said, Kodi runs on the same device with the same user and same filesystem access. But now a few questions arise: 1. Do I need the option to use local paths instead of Emby redirection enabled? When I do not enable that option, Kodi does not see the extrathumbs Emby provides because the skin needs the actual filepath to see them. 2. Will a path substitution solve the issue mentioned above? My video files are stored under /media/Media, will a substitution /media/Media -> /media/Media make a difference? 3. And, next big issue: I know that Kodi handles music different from the video files. How will path substitution and direct playback work here? How does the add-on provide the music cdart to Kodi? Will it set the item.art(discart) property? Again, the problem is that the skin I use right now needs the actual filename path for cdart, extrafanart and extrathumb. It would not be a big problem to change the skin a little, but right now I just don't now how because I don't know what artwork is provided to the music.db directly and which not.

    Chapter Images in Kodi?

So I just have a little question about chapter images in using emby for kodi. I know that kodi is SUPPOSED to create chapter images as the video loads, but it doesn't whenever I use emby for kodi. But when I play a video just using kodi and not emby for kodi, then it works perfectly. Its not the end of the world if for some reason it can't work, it was just something I noticed and would love to have. I'm running Kodi 15.2 release and the latest release for Emby for Kodi, which I forget the actual release number right now since I'm at work. So any help on this will be greatly appreciated! Also if you haven't noticed, this is also my first post on the forums, so hello!

    PsuedoTV Live with Emby Server

I was wondering if anybody had managed to successfully use the PsuedoTV Live Kodi addon, when using the Emby Kodi addon? PTVL on Kodi Forums: http://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=169032 I managed to get the PsuedoTV Live addon installed in Kodi, and configured some channels based around my local library content. All works well except for one small, albeit devastating problem: The duration of items in my guide is incorrect. For every 1 minute of runtime that a media item has, PsuedoTV Live is plotting 1 hour on the guide. For example: > A 21 min episode of 8 Simple Rules is showing as lasting 21 hours in the PTVL guide > A 45 min episode of Breaking Bad is showing as lasting 45 hours in the PTVL guide > A 120 min movie is showing as lasting 120 hours in the PTVL guide Now PsuedoTV Live has a fairly large userbase, it's thread on the Kodi forums has over 10,000 posts. And a lot of people say that it works properly for them, and the items in their guide, although none of them mention that they're using Emby Server as their library backend. Could the Emby for Kodi addon be doing something quirky when returning media files (and their header information: ie media duration) that PTVL doesn't expect? And has anyone else actually been able to get PTVL working with Emby?
  19. I had installed Emby TV app on my Nvidia Shield but unfortunately it had a number of issues which I don't plan on discussing in this thread. So I moved over to Emby for Kodi and all the issues of Emby TV app were resolved, however there was one feature I really liked and I don't know if it's a Kodi or an Emby for Kodi thing. Emby TV app would link my current/previous and latest media on the Android TV home screen, linking into the app when clicked. Is this possible or is this a question to ask on Kodi boards? Thanks

Shortcut for TV Shows weird behavior

Hi, I'm running Kodi 15.1 on Windows 7 with Emby 1.1.39 addon installed. I've been using this for a while now and have a basic setup for my homescreen shortcuts where one is pointed to my movies directory and one is pointed to the tv shows directly. I like the shortcuts to go directly to my list of shows/movies so I have it pointed to Addon\Program\Emby\TV Shows\TV Shows. This has worked great for months now, but a couple days ago I began experiencing behavior where clicking the tv shows shortcut would pull up the list of shows as usual, but when I hit enter on any of them, nothing happens. Normally this would bring up the seasons listing and I could select an episode to play, but now it just does nothing. I played around with the shortcuts and found that if I create a shortcut to the base level of TV shows (i.e. Addon\Program\Emby\TV Shows) the shortcut works and if I select TV shows from that menu, the same list of shows appears but now I can select them and see seasons and episodes and play them. I created 2 shortcuts, one for Addon\Program\Emby\TV Shows and one for Addon\Program\Emby\TV Shows\TV Shows and ran a log (attached). The shortcut to Addon\Program\Emby\TV Shows is at 12:10:40 and you can see the log getting the directories for a couple of specific tv show titles and then me backing out of the menu at 12:10:54. The shortcut to Addon\Program\Emby\TV Shows\TV Shows is at 12:11:01 and you can see that each time I tried to select a show I got a NOTICE: Thread BackgroundLoader start, auto delete: false -> DEBUG: Thread BackgroundLoader 7120 terminating. Any ideas of what might have caused this change in behavior. I have not changed skins or Kodi versions since this behavior began so I'm at a loss. I can use the workaround by going to the base folder, but that isn't nearly as clean an experience as being able to jump right into the shows list. Thank you! Kodi - Emby TV Fast FF/RW

Hey, I don't know if I misconfigured something but fast forward and rewind in Kodi plugin doesn't work all that well for me. It feels as if Kodi is seeking the file while play it which result in the fast forwarding not working as it should. Playing that same exact file natively in Kodi result in a different behavior. Is that really something on my end or is it a known issue?

Media very slow to start on Raspberry Pi

I have a couple Pi B+es running the latest OSMC (Kodi 15.2-RC2), using the Emby plugin version 1.1.39. Media syncs just fine, but playing any media takes 10-15 seconds before it starts playing. Is there some way I can speed things up?

Ongoing Issue w/ Emby for Kodi

I'm posting this here because frankly I'm unsure who the culprit is; Emby or Kodi. All signs point to the add-on, specifically, but I can't be certain. Here's what's happening: ~3 weeks ago, I began to notice that despite no changes made by myself (updates have always applied automatically for add-ons for me), even though Kodi was displaying my existing movie library, it was notupdating it when a new movie was added in Emby. For the life of me, I could not figure out what to reconfigure, toggle, or otherwise reset to get Kodi to see Emby and update accordingly. No settings were changed within the Emby server. Long story short: I ripped out all things Kodi, renamed the folder for it in App Data, reinstalled Kodi Isengard, and confirmed it created a new folder. Reconfigured everything from scratch, and finally was able to get Kodi to sync with Emby. As of last night, after one of MANY recent crashes of the Titan browser for Kodi, it failed to recover (this is normal when Titan crashes, at least for me), so I had to force-quit Kodi altogether.Relaunched, went to the section where I've got my TV shows...0 are displayed. No folders, no episodes...just a blank screen where they used to be. Went into the add-on settings for the skin to make sure it is pointing to the right place, no changes were made. Here's my big question: is there some sort of magical, convoluted method by which Kodi will consistently sync with Emby, and allow the use of Titan? I had zero problems with the pair coexisting until about a month or so ago, and began to get crashes from Titan almost once per session. I realize my question is broad, and probably provokes more questions that answers....but surely I can't be the only person having these issues. I'm more than happy to attach any type of log files, screenshots, whatever is useful for troubleshooting

  25. Hi there. I am running emby server on my mac. Using kodi as a client (I cannot play files via the emby Web app at all). Episodes get updated as having been watched correctly, however the progress is not being stored. I get no option to resume playback. The file simply resets watch status to "unwatched" (I assume so because the plot gets hidden to prevent spoilers again.) and the episode starts again from the beginning. Where should I begin to diagnose this? Stats: Mac mini: OS X 10.7.2 Emby Server version 3.0.5724.4 Kodi version: 15.2RC1 Git:2015-08-28-59716ca DB Version(in logs and dashboard): 1.1.39 Play method: "direct stream" Kodi does report its current status and play duration to the dashboard. The nfo file for that episode in particular does not appear to contain any watched indicator nor progress information. If I watch the file to near completion, then hit stop - kodi treats it as watched however if I then edit the nfo there isn't even a watched status tag in the xml. There are so many logs to go through which I will gladly do of you can tell me what I should be looking for.
